  1. I don't see any way this suspension can be upheld. There is no precedent for it, especially when Utley was neither ejected nor called for interference during the game. I don't see how what happened here isn't any different than what Coghlan did to Kang last month.
  2. I've only recently joined the Twitter-verse and I follow a lot of ex-players. I've got to say that I always associated the dumb, meat head jock stereotype only with football players but there certainly are a lot of baseball players that fall into that category too. The guys I follow were unanimously on Papelbon's side after he choked Harper and they are also unanimously in agreement that Utley's side was ok and some have even stated that it was Tejada's fault he got hurt.
  3. Exactly. Before the rule change how many catchers were getting hurt a year, one? If that. How many infielders are injured a year on plays like this one? There were two just in the past month. As soon as a middle infielder who's as big a name as Buster Posey gets hurt, there will be changes.
  4. I wouldn't say that slide was dirty but it certainly wasn't clean either. There's probably about 100 slides like that during the regular season it's just that the fielder isn't in that weird position. If Tejada doesn't have his back to the runner he just jumps out of the way and gets knocked over. I don't think Utley should have been out for interference because he wasn't even that far from the base. Obviously he didn't slide to the base and it was really late but you just never see that called. I think the bigger issue is the the umpires reviewing and then reversing a call that isn't even reviewable.
  5. Is Rollins still hurt or did they actually make the shocking decision that it's better to play the superior player instead of the older one?
  6. Read an article in USA Today about how people hate the Cardinals. The writer's conclusion was that it's because people are jealous that they win all the time. Apparently the writer doesn't know it's actually because they are dicks who [expletive deleted by moderator] and moan when other teams do to them the same thing they do to other teams.
  7. I remember from when I visited there last year that as long as you stay on the west side of the river you should be fine.
  8. When I see a team that has a screaming need for a position and they let a viable player who plays that position go, my thought goes to his personality and make up. Those are key issues and ones we as fans are rarely informed about. Maybe there's some behind the scenes stuff with him but he put up an uninspiring stat line in a very hitter friendly AAA park. Even his MLB numbers, except for HR totals, are pretty underwhelming and those too were in a hitter friendly park. He's just not a good hitter.
  9. I like this idea but giving up Davis and Peralta better net a very good prospect. Are you guys talking about Maikel Franco? The player that's already about as valuable as Davis and Peralta combined and he's only 22? That trade seems rather ridiculous. There is no reason for the Phillies to trade Franco unless they are getting some superstar prospect in return and neither Davis nor Peralta are that, both of whom are also older and have more service time than Franco. Davis and Peralta wouldn't be enough to Franco alone.
  10. I think Harold Reynolds may actually be worse than Joe Buck. Harold just needs to shut up most of the time. You don't need to fill every second of air time with your pointless drivel.
  11. I'd like to think Segura still has some trade value but I can't see why that would be so. We made all kinds of excuses for his terrible year last year but his 2015 slash is virtually identical to 2014 (.289/.326/.614 vs .281/.336/.616). He is what he is and this a well below average hitter and an average at best defender. You could try and play the "he's still young and might improve" card but in 3.5 big league seasons he's shown little to no improvement.
  12. I won't touch how wrong you are with that statement but I'm curious what part of St. Louis you live in?
  13. If the league expands to 32 teams I would rather see 4 divisions of 8 than 8 divisions of 4. If that were to happen I wouldn't mind seeing leagues ditched completely and have everyone play everyone but unbalanced favoring intradivision play. You take your 4 division winners and next 4 best records and seed them by record. Boom- playoffs.
  14. I guess it would continue the hard-ass/nice guy merry go round they've been on. I hope he's mellowed since then, the article makes him sound like a total clown. Maybe he can be on the bench only when we play the Cardinals. St. Louis really needs a guy like him in the other dugout every game.
  15. Both of these lineups just scream of over thinking. You can't tell me the analytics guys in Pittsburgh suggest Rodriguez defense is more beneficial than Alvarez or Ramirez offense. And how can the Cubs not have someone hitting better than La Stella to put in the OF to move Bryant back to 3B?
  16. They dumped a 30 year old catcher with a limited resume so it's basically a wash. Spots will open up when soon because of a Lohse and some outrights. Free agency is still over a month away so I can't see this as a problem.
  17. Apparently by "stuff" they mean velocity. Greg Maddux had stuff with pinpoint control and lots of movement and a great changeup to go with it. That's great to me.
  18. In the NFL, a playoff game is equal to 6.25% of the regular season. In the NBA and NHL, a 7 game series is equal to 8.5% of the regular season. In MLB, a 5 game series equates to 3% of the regular season and a 7 game series is 4.3%. The MLB playoffs are like using the first half or first 3 quarters of an NFL game to determine who advances. Going to a 3 game series is virtually pointless in an effort to try and determine the better team. For example, the Brewers were 10-9 and split their series 3-3 against the Pirates this year. But is there any doubt that Pittsburgh is the better team?
  19. The whole thing seems weird. Generally when this happens to athletes there are rumblings and rumors about things but I don't recall ever hearing a negative thing about CC. This past year was also his best year in awhile too.
  20. Pretty sure that's just how baseball is. It's a laid back sport.
  21. The teams inquiring about him will be asking the same questions. If a team overvalues this smaller stretch and overpays then I am all in favor of trading him. Set the bar high and if they don't get it then see if he can replicate the success the first half of 2016 and if he does he will be a hot trade chip at the deadline or after the season. With this line of thinking we can't discount the 900+OPS he put up after Braun was suspended. When he gets regular playing time, he plays well.
  22. Days off in baseball in not always a good thing. I don't think a bye for teams would be great for them.
  23. Behind Counsell, Cedar (as 3B coach) has the most impact on what actually happens during gameplay. Clearly the organization likes something about him or he has a lot of dirty pictures of people in high places.
  24. I was worried until I checked Kennedy's agent...just a coincidence I'm sure that it's Scott Boras, Heyman's favorite source. So maybe they're trying to drum up business for Kennedy? How could that possibly make sense for the Brewers? That "report" is all bull. Just words to fill space. The Brewers will not be signing any SP this offseason.
