  1. I've been running VisualBox with an XP Pro disk that I found stashed away since last night. Seems to work fine so far.
  2. At first I was meh but now reading what others have posted I'm less than meh. It's not much money and only one year but there were better, or at least more certain, options for a lefty. Just looking at who's left I would have taken Phil Coke, Paul Maholm, or Joe Thatcher over Cotts at the same price.
  3. "Cotty's a guy that isn't just limited to facing lefties -- he can get righties out too." http://i.imgur.com/tmeY0Ha.png Fixed.
  4. The problem is that once you get to the 7th inning, baseball games turn into the last two minutes of a basketball game with constant fouling and time outs. There's no flow, it's just one stoppage after another.
  5. No, I would say most of Wisconsin is probably in the same boat as you. Otherwise the Super Bowl is the highest rated TV every year. Americans watch. Whether they care or not is another story but they will watch in droves. I totally agree with you about Media Day. It's just an event so the media can bring attention to themselves and find one or two players every year they can grill about some of the field incident to make the player look bad.
  6. I like the idea but I also agree with this post. However, I'm as big a baseball fan as there is but I hate when a team uses more than 2 pitchers to get through an inning unless it's because one of them can't get an out. All the righy/lefty matchup stuff to me is boring and is probably one of the biggest reason games drag on.
  7. Cripes. When I did this 6 years ago it was no problem. Now, I'm having nothing but problems. I'm trying Virtualbox and everything's going fine until I get my XP disk to install and it's cracked.
  8. The most common reason I've seen given is that it would be too difficult to decide who would be eligible, which is ludicrous. It's as simple as you said, if you want to be eligible you must declare yourself by a certain date. However, you would run into the problem that currently for US born players there is some restriction as to when they are eligible (I believe it's something like their high school class has to have graduated) but for everyone else you just have to be at least 16. Everyone needs to be under the same rules which doesn't seem like it should be too hard to figure out.
  9. Do you have any knowledge or experience with this? I had looked into it and I'm hesitant because I don't want to pay for anything.
  10. International free agency is just one huge mess right now. What has screwed it up is the many veteran Cuban players coming here and having immediate success. Prior to the likes of Puig, Soler, Chapman, etc. the success of Cuban players was pretty sporadic so teams were hesitant to throw gobs of cash at them so every now and then a small market team could take a gamble on one of these guys. Now anyone that gets off the island is hyped and expected to deliver the same results as those guys I just mentioned and are paid like an MLB veteran free agent, essentially eliminating any team with a small payroll from even having a shot. This has now trickled down into the players that fall under the International Signing rules like Yoan. He is essentially a draft pick like bcdude is alluding to but unlike a draft pick he has 30 teams to negotiate with and drive up his price instead of 1. Someone stateside is eventually going to sue MLB because of this. It makes no sense than a 19 year old kid born in the US can be subject to the draft and slotted bonuses while a 19 year old kid born in Cuba or elsewhere is exempt from the draft and can sign for 4x more.
  11. I'm trying to use Bootcamp to install Windows on my MacBook since my Windows laptop is basically a paperweight now. I only need to use a couple Windows based programs and I like having everything on one machine which is why I'm not going to buy a new laptop. I had done this before right after I bought my MacBook but I wasn't using Windows enough to justify the diskspace so I got rid of it. Now as I'm trying to partition the hard drive I'm getting an error that says I need to format my HD as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Seems like I would have to reformat my HD and then reinstall everything. I really do not want to do that. Do I have any other options or am I [out of luck]?
  12. The tirade I'm referring to is the one that will happen come Spring Training if he's still a Philly.
  13. Pap has made comments before about not wanting to be in Philly if they're not winning. I can't imagine he'll be able to just let these very open trade talks about him go by. Maybe Doug is waiting until he reports to Spring Training and unleashes a verbal tirade to the media about it and forces the Phillies to give him away for nothing. Whether he winds up in Milwaukee or not, I doubt he's a Philly on opening day. They've gone too far down the trade path for him not to be traded and still have it end well.
  14. I think James Shields would be opposed to it. It's getting to the point in the offseason where he's going to have take whatever he gets offered. I can't imagine anyone giving him anything longer than 3 years at this point. Why not take a big money 1 year contract and try again next year?
  15. On the surface this seems like an innovative idea that will really minimize the effect on the taxpayer. However, this is politics and business working together so in some way the taxpayers are going to end up on the hook for more than is being publicized.
  16. If he needs 3 seasons to collect 156 hits, he should retire now. Considering he's a 4th outfielder in a stacked outfield now, 3 seasons might not be out of the question.
  17. Would anyone be opposed to a 1yr/$18M or 2yr/$32M deal for Shields? I wouldn't do it just because I feel it's time to sink or swim with Nelson. That deal would also give them the option of trading Lohse or Garza and getting something to recoup the lost draft pick.
  18. Speaking of Super Bowl, all the hate that Marshawn Lynch is getting for not wanting to do interviews. So what? It's not like they ever ask anything worthwhile anyway. If he's not going to have anything interesting to say why do reporters keep asking him questions? Are they just trying to rile him up to get a TMZ moment out of him?
  19. I hope he plays another 2 or 3 years and gets his 3000 hits.
  20. Anyone who thinks Ramirez won't be hitting in the 4 spot is crazy. That is his spot and Ron will not move him from it unless he is on the DL.
  21. I think we all need to temper our expectations for Knebel. He hasn't pitched since last July because of a UCL injury. The guy looks like he could be a solid bullpen piece but let's get him healthy first.
  22. I've seen a lot of comments about the shirts shrinking. They must have changed suppliers recently as I still have my ball and glove logo shirt from when they had fans choose between the old logo and current logo shirt giveaway and it fits fine.
  23. I know he's not and never will but I'd like to see Manfred read this thread. It's like the Philadelphia fans totally crapping on last night's Royal Rumble.
  24. Not surprised. Unless there are massive amounts of injuries I doubt he gets more than a handful of MLB at bats in his career.
