  1. Talk about a small sample size - that was 98 PA. 46 of those PA were after his ankle injury in Sept/Oct. The fact you cited that timeframe is astounding. Briggs has been pretty vocal in his dislike for Weeks and is good at cherry picking stats that back that up.
  2. What's really the point of making a Sunday a national holiday though? Most people are already off work, including the vast majority of federal and state employees. Monday. The Super Bowl should be played on a Saturday anyway.
  3. Hopefully he doesn't pull a Xavier Nady after his TJ and become completely useless player.
  4. How is this not the only picture for today? http://cache1.asset-cache.net/gc/81350613-baseball-chicago-cubs-nomar-garciaparra-in-gettyimages.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=GkZZ8bf5zL1ZiijUmxa7QRgataljHi6%2BntQjLo17z3DVsvLq1gwkHF%2Fvct%2F8JMpc7x2PDIw0O7rWb1YIi9xV%2BcrAY5FCEZxo8Xq34B1dDEc%3D http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1686315/Russell-Branyan-Elsa-Getty-Images-Sport-53342405.png And guess what? We get to have him two weeks before opening day too!
  5. This has to be posted about Jumbo Diaz. http://www.sportsgrid.com/mlb/watch-a-350-pound-minor-league-pitcher-steal-third-base-cleanly-and-not-hurt-himself/
  6. You see the problem is no one is going to take on Weeks contract. Everybody wants to get rid of him, release or trade, and either way the Brewers are still going to be paying him. Unless there is a clear upgrade, I see no reason for the Brewers to do that. Keppinger would not be a clear upgrade and with your trade proposal the Yankees would not be taking much of Weeks contract. They have already said they will not spend much on an infield upgrade.
  7. We are sick and tired of being sick and tired. Chicago = Change #hijackRAW #WWEChicago #NoMovement Could be an interesting show this Monday.
  8. That makes sense I guess. If you're going through the trouble of doing this with batter results how much harder can it be to track the count?
  9. Nevermind. Braun swings at the first pitch and then homers on the next one. Baseball is back!
  10. Hmm, not sure if Gameday isn't working or Ron has told everyone not to swing. Segura walks on four straight pitches and then Weeks takes three strikes in a row to strike out.
  11. Segura, SS Weeks, 2B Braun, RF Lucroy, C Gomez, CF Davis, Kh., LF Overbay, DH Reynolds, 3B Francisco, 1B Estrada, P Not really much to glean from the first spring training game but I find it interesting that Reynolds is at third and Francisco is at first. I guess with Ramirez out there really isn't anyone else to play third. Also, that Reynolds is hitting in the 8 spot.
  12. Because of my inconsistent employment history, 2012 is the only year I've ever had to work on Brewers Opening Day. My current work schedule has me off on Monday's and Tuesday's, so the streak will continue.
  13. I believe that the rule is that a newly signed player needs to give permission to be traded before June 1. There is no rule about a "sign and trade" but Bud Selig has said he will block any trade he feels is to circumvent giving up a draft pick.
  14. I think part of this is going to start happening. Non-super star free agents are going to start taking the 2yr/$30M deal instead of the 5yr/$60M. This offseason may be showing the signs of this shift. Sure, the superstars Cano and Ellsbury got their fat contracts but there weren't a whole lot of disaster, desperate overpays like is typically seen.
  15. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mlb/news/20140225/young-players-extensions-free-agency-mike-trout/index.html To sum this article: because so many young players are signing extensions that buy out their free agent years, free agency will become an even more inefficient way to acquire talent. I totally agree with that premise. Buying out free agent years of good players early in their careers has been how small market clubs have been able to have superstar talent (Longoria, Braun, McCutchen, etc.). Now, however, even the big spenders are starting to do this. Invariably, the price is going to start going up and up to buy out free agency years. With Mike Trout set to probably sign a $100M+ contract at the age of 21, is this practice eventually going to out-price the small markets from doing so? Are we within 5-10 years of small market teams actually being better off by spending on the free agency scraps than locking up their own players? I don't think it will get quite that bad but I think soon a team like Rays or Pirates won't be able to afford to extend their own players and will be better off trading them after only 3 or 4 years for prospects. What do you think?
  16. Considering the parent club is trying to turn these players into players who can help them win and make money they should give them what they need to become better players. The club should pay for adequate housing, meals, equipment, etc. I don't think giving these guys more money is going to be better in the long run for the club. When teenagers/young 20-somethings get cash in their hands they don't always make wise decisions with it, especially when you group them all together for long periods of time. Take a look at the NFL and NBA.
  17. He's not Rickie Weeks and he can play 3rd base, that's what. I don't like that trade but many will be in favor of it simply because it gets rid of Weeks.
  18. Some rather enjoyable Spring Training pictures from a yahoo article. http://l1.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/uLib6BX4LvQnnPGd_rISlg--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7Y2g9NDA4ODtjcj0xO2N3PTMyNzA7ZHg9MjtkeT0wO2ZpPXVsY3JvcDtoPTgwMDtxPTc1O3c9NjQw/http://l.yimg.com/os/publish-images/sports/2014-02-25/496a6330-9e53-11e3-9871-351cf0b80079_AP413175789896.jpg http://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/NNlW.RN39ddhgp9sEULI0A--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7Y2g9NDMyMDtjcj0xO2N3PTMzMTA7ZHg9MTtkeT0wO2ZpPXVsY3JvcDtoPTgwMDtxPTc1O3c9NjEz/http://l.yimg.com/os/publish-images/sports/2014-02-25/7878dbe0-9e47-11e3-af43-ffe23a17efd5_470974925.jpg http://l2.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/r3WJ.vo7GXb2l4cp3NRZ2Q--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7Y2g9MjUyODtjcj0xO2N3PTQzNTE7ZHg9MTtkeT0wO2ZpPXVsY3JvcDtoPTgwMDtxPTc1O3c9MTM3Nw--/http://l.yimg.com/os/publish-images/sports/2014-02-25/b6b48f80-9e47-11e3-af43-ffe23a17efd5_474770851.jpg http://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/T2jBanOZ_tmn_N1s3tnEYw--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7Y2g9Mjg0OTtjcj0xO2N3PTE5NzM7ZHg9MDtkeT0wO2ZpPXVsY3JvcDtoPTgwMDtxPTc1O3c9NTU0/http://l.yimg.com/os/publish-images/sports/2014-02-25/694282c0-9e47-11e3-af43-ffe23a17efd5_474646563.jpg http://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/sFDSbKhqhbhIW.WOk8hvKA--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7Y2g9NDIwMDtjcj0xO2N3PTMzNjA7ZHg9MDtkeT0wO2ZpPXVsY3JvcDtoPTgwMDtxPTc1O3c9NjQw/http://l.yimg.com/os/publish-images/sports/2014-02-25/bdac9e40-9e47-11e3-8efc-79ceb7b9573b_474656823.jpg
  19. I've been in and out of keeping up with WWE and just skimming through Raw on DVR and reading dirt sheets but is it just me or has the WWE turned heel? I don't mean "The Authority," but the whole company. The fans are rabid for Daniel Bryan to be champ, but the company refuses to give it to him. The crowd at the Royal Rumble was going crazy anticipating Bryan at #30 and then booed the heck out of Rey Mysterio. The crowd was behind Reigns (a heel) at the end of the Rumble and then booed Batista (a face) when he won. Cena has always had a mixed reaction but it seems like it is very much more on the negative side now. Crowds are chanting for CM Punk during other guy's matches. It's all quite surreal. The crowds have been quite hot and vocal recently but it's because they don't like what's going on. It's so weird and awesome at the same time.
  20. This is what I think they should have done, it would everything much easier to understand. My rule would read: The catcher is not allowed to block the plate with any part of his body other than his glove but only if he has possession of the ball. If he does not have possession, the runner is ruled safe. The runner is not allowed to initiate contact with the catcher unless the runner is in the process of attempting to slide in a direction towards the plate. Doing so will result in the runner being called out, play will stop and all baserunners will return to their previous bases. If, however, the runner makes contact with the catcher while not sliding as a result of the catcher attempting to catch a thrown ball, the runner will be ruled safe immediately whether he touches home plate or not and play will continue. This is clear and easy to understand. It leaves no loopholes for either the offense or the defense to try and take advantage of and limits any of the collisions they are trying to prevent to being caused by bad throws.
  21. I heard on the news that the Farmer's Almanac pretty much nailed this winter including correctly predicting the weeks there would be major snow storms. On the other hand, the braniac, big-whig, climate science-y folks predicted a mild and much warmer than normal winter.
  22. The runner cannot lower the shoulder, push with hands, elbows or arms, and must make an attempt to touch the plate. That is the biggest change from the runner's perspective. The runner has lost all desire to hit the catcher both from a baseball sense and a health sense. Home plate will be treated like any other base. Some incidental contact will occasionally occur, but both sides will try to avoid a collision. I guess I do remember reading that. It just seems to me that MLB took what should have been a simple problem to fix and made it way too complicated.
  23. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/mlb-institutes-new-rule-on-home-plate-collisions?ymd=20140224&content_id=68267610&vkey=news_mlb As best I can tell all the new rule does is say the runner can't make contact with the catcher if the catcher does not have the ball or if the catcher is not blocking the plate. Otherwise, nothing changes. It seems like those two situations pretty much never happen. They then go and throw replay and umpire interpretation into it. If they want to to eliminate collisions at home, eliminate them, but this just seems to add way too much confusion.
