  1. Short sighted but probably the best move for the O's. Sign all the QO'ed free agents you can this year to short deals and try and win now. They should probably sign Santana and then Drew to play 3rd until Machado comes back.
  2. Can you blame him for saying that when a guy shows up to camp 40 pounds over weight and just got suspended 50 games the season before.

  4. According to the story, he was misdiagnosed by doctors everywhere he went.
  5. Then there's this little nugget... Montero is a total non-factor in Seattle's first base situation.
  6. Both, platoon them. That's the obvious choice and the stats back it up.
  7. He was moved there last year. It's not an interesting situation to me since those that are available are all average to below average players. Just stick with what we got.
  8. There must be something else going on here. Non-cancerous colon polyps are usually found and removed during a colonoscopy which has about a 1 day recovery period. He's young for getting a routine colonoscopy, but if there is a family history of colon cancer, that would make it more reasonable. Surgery that has after effects lasting for 3 months sounds like situation was far from a normal procedure. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10484210/aramis-ramirez-milwaukee-brewers-non-cancerous-polyp-removed Seems like since he's going to be the starter there's just no reason to rush the guy along. With his knee issues and age there just really isn't a reason for him to be playing much this spring anyway.
  9. It's great that he has answers to his health but unless it helps him walk less that 6.4 per 9 I don't like his chances of sticking in the bigs.
  10. ...in 230 PA. Almost irrelevant when comparing the two.
  11. Simmons got paid for his glove. Segura will get paid for his bat. Segura will be asking for and getting more.

  13. ARam isn't injured, per say. He had a polyp removed from his colon. I'd say give the man some time.
  14. Typical pose by Grandpa Ken. "I don't know what's going on out here but I wish you kids would get off my lawn!"

  16. I had assumed that Bailey was quite a dominant pitcher the last few years and that this contract was totally worth it, but the stats really don't back that up. He's put up an ERA+ of 112 and 110 the last two years but his career ERA+ is 96. And while his walk rate has been pretty consistent at 2.3 each of the last 3 years, his k rate only spiked this last season. He seems like a darn good pitcher, one I'd certainly want on the Brewers, but not for $17.5M a season.
  17. Some disappointing news, Japhet Amador will not be reporting to Astros camp. He will stay in Mexico to tend to family matters. I was really looking forward to seeing this guy play against major leaguers. I was even going to create an "Amador Watch" thread to track him through spring training. For those who don't know him Amador is a 6'4", 300+ lb first basemen who played in Mexico until the Astros signed him towards the end of last season. http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1xrsoNaw31qb0ctno1_1280.png
  18. Thanks for the props but who else is there at this point? Give up a pitcher for Ike Davis? Give up a pick for Morales? Give the reigns to Morris? Also, I'm far from one of those K-rates are pointless people but I don't see how posting his K-rate is at all relative to his offensive production. This is his OPS (HR) by season: 2007 - .843 (17) 2008 - .779 (28) 2009 - .892 (44) 2010 - .753 (32) 2011 - .806 (37) 2012 - .763 (23) 2013 - .699 (21) Last year notwithstanding, he's a guaranteed .750 OPS with 20+ homeruns. Not a world beater for first base but at least that's serviceable, maybe even above average.
  19. This is the same organization that went all in on defense a few years ago to disastrous results. They probably "learned" from that mistake and are going the other way now.
  20. Kemp played in 399 straight games and then in May 2012 he went down with a "Hamstring injury" at that time he was batting: .359/.446/.726/ 1.173 12HRs in 34 games 140PAs 118ABs Since then he's accumulated 599 PAs .276/.328/.436/.764 17HRs and just 16SBs. I just don't like behind the numbers his 2011 season and start to 2012 to me stands out as not the norm. Now he has multiple injuries behind him ankle/hamstring/shoulder joint issue.... How is it a good idea to take a guy on being paid to be 2011 who was healthy then who's cressed his prime and should eventually begin his decline? He's not a defensive stalwart. Why can't we go with our own Khris Davis and cheer him on for 525k this year? I'll wager $50 now with anyone Davis hits more HRs than Kemp this year. Yeah, when you're injured, you're not as likely to put up big numbers. I realize we're going on the assumption that everyone's on roids these days, I just don't believe aside from that, you made a very compelling case. Played with Manny, and has gotten injured. Steroids usually take a long time...years of abuse before you start dealing with the soft tissue damage and joint injuries. He's missed most of his time from a shoulder and ankle IIRC. Not that rare in baseball. And I'm not going to wager 50 bucks on who hits more HR's because...It's really not that important to me. Kemp's almost certainly going to be playing in a much bigger stadium and not going to be playing everyday. Not to mention, that's really an awful way to judge which is a better player. Davis can't play anywhere else on the field but in LF because he's so limited defensively. Kemp may not be a "stalwart," but I believe he'd be pretty solid if healthy in RF, and Braun would be a big upgrade at 1st base. At the end of the day, the Brewers aren't going to add 126 million dollars over the next SIX YEARS, and even if the Dodgers were desperate to dump him, we don't have enough bad contracts to give them to make it worth it. And I'd also be worried about his long term production....but it'd certainly make 2014 more interesting. Or, Kemp just had a year and a half hot streak a la Bill Hall and Casey McGhee and everyone expected that was his norm.
  21. Must be inland because our forecast is for mid-30's with rain/wintry mix all day.
  22. It should be a stretch considering he's an awful hitter and we have at least 5 options that are better than him. It would be just like last year having a SS/Utility IF playing first base. If that were to happen again, Doug or Ron or somebody should be fired on the spot.
  23. I was reading that Mark Reynolds is one of only like 4 or 5 players to have hit 20 HR every year for the last 6 years (a few of them partial seasons for him). Is he going to be great shakes? Probably not, but he's going to hit enough dingers to not be terrible.
  24. Unless you are able to stay on your parent's insurance AmeriCorps is not a good idea. I was actually offered an AmeriCorps position last summer and had to decline it because I was actually going to lose money working for them. They also flat out told me to apply for food stamps because I wouldn't be making enough money to feed myself. When factoring insurance and travel (which they won't reimburse you for even though you may very well do a lot of it) you are probably going to lose money. And most AmeriCorps positions do not allow you to have another job because you are a "24/7" employee.
  25. No, he's not. Gallardo is 27 and has about 1100 innings as a starting pitcher while Estrada is 30 and has about 300. He's a nice 5th guy or swing man. He is not Yovani Gallardo. I'll take that much lower WHIP and much lower walk rate any day over the week.
