  1. But he's a free agent starting pitcher signed to a long term contract by the Milwaukee Brewers. It can only turn out like Suppan did!!!
  2. Thank goodness. Being on another continent will reduce the chances Doug signs him after his inevitable release.
  3. Not sure why some think Garza is such an injury concern. He missed time in 2012 with a "stress reaction." For those not sure what a "stress reaction" is, this link talks about it and it doesn't seem like a big deal. He missed the start of last year with a muscle strain. Another thing I wouldn't be too worried about especially since he didn't have any problems the rest of the year. In 2008-11 he made at least 30 starts every year and he made 30 starts between the majors and minors in 2006 and 2007.
  4. Jack Z or someone else from Seattle said the plan is to rotate everyone between 1B and DH for awhile until Corey's legs are ready to get back into RF. Heaven help them.
  5. How is a guy who hasn't played 130games or more in the last 3 seasons worth your 1st rd draft selection? He's turning 31 so he's on the wrong side in the age department. I thought it was laughable he was offered the QO. Even without a draft pick cost, I'd have a hard time paying Drew 9mil a year. He's likely asking for 14mil per with draft cost. Drew was on the Boston Red Sox kool-aid this past season finding magic that shouldn't be expected to be there. My guess with Drew for his career moving forward is not one season over 130 games in the next 4 years. That he doesn't have 1 season of 3WAR in any of the 4 years. and 2 are in the 2WAR while the other 2 are 0-ish. What of any of that projection suggests giving up a draft pick? I think he had some back injuries last year and the reason he didn't play 130 the 2 years prior was due to the horrific, freak ankle injury he had against the Brewers that took almost a full year to recover from. His first 4 full ML seasons he played over 150 games 3 times and 135 times the other, so I'm not sure where this injury label is coming from exactly. Offensively he did pretty much what he had been doing in Arizona, putting up a near 800 OPS with 10-15 homeruns while playing a premium defensive position.
  6. I think it can be safely guaranteed that all of the QO players will be signed before opening day. I don't see any way a healthy player sits out over 1/3 of the season. Eventually some team with a top ten pick is going to offer Morales a 1yr/5ishM deal and he'll accept. Even with the draft pick attached I can't believe no one has signed Drew.
  7. Bud squashed the Mets attempts to get around giving up a pick last year and has said that he will block any sign and trade so I don't think it would work.
  8. Everyone is hoping Davis will turn into the player he was in the ONE good season he had. I know he was very sick a couple years ago and hurt too but I just don't see it happening. That one good year was the exception, not the rule.
  9. If it was medical it would be officially dead by now. It's probably that when teams found out how much it was more they immediately called Garza's agent and offered him more money.
  10. My fear too. If this falls through we can welcome Ubaldo Jimenez and his 5 yr/$75M contract to Milwaukee.
  11. I'll be surprised as any if he's ever able to put together a worthwhile major league career.
  12. I'll be surprised as any if he's ever able to put together a worthwhile major league career.
  13. It doesn't bother me one bit. The Yankees spend because they haven't been able to develop players for years. The Red Sox have been pretty good at developing their own players and then spending when they have holes to fix. They also know when to cut and move on like they did with the Crawford/Gonzalez/Beckett/etc. deal. The Yankees just spend and spend and don't know how to do anything else. A lot of the times it's successful and sometimes they have a team like they did last year.
  14. Hafner is now a college coach and Berkman is basically retired.
  15. The actually already retired #50 to honor Uecker's 50 years in baseball. I'm pretty sure it's just "honored" not retired even though it is up with the retired numbers.
  16. Richard Sherman Touché Does this change anyone's opinion? http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1933422-richard-sherman-micd-up-during-nfc-championship-game?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=programming-national
  17. You would think but that will just lead to people asking how he can still beat the testing.
  18. I was curious as to what it would have. Braves would make sense but the Cubs would too.
  19. Unless they can get a big upgrade like Billy Butler, no, they should just hold on to the depth.
  20. To all those who are going to complain about not giving the young guys a shot remember this could be Gallardo's last year in Milwaukee, it would save a lot of money if his option wasn't picked up.
  21. I was trying to find an analogy just like that.
  22. Not really sure how to feel about this. Garza isn't going to make them a bonafide contender but dollars wise it's a decent deal.
  23. I don't think it will happen but if it does I think it would only be a 1 year deal. Something like $15M for 1 season. There has been very little chatter on Garza this offseason and he might be looking for a 1 year deal to prove he can stay healthy and then cash in next offseason.
