  1. "Veteran leadership" is the most expensive, overrated, useless, and cliche thing is sports. I'm sure the only things the kids are learning from him, or any other veteran for that matter, is how to make trick catches in the OF during BP, secret sunflower seed spitting techniques, and where the best restaurants are in each major league city. Vital stuff.
  2. That is a cop-out, but used by a lot of his supporters none the less... It isn't the talent level that makes me question him on a daily basis, it is how he runs the "material he has to work with." He was incompetent when they went to the play-offs two years ago (they won in spite of his stupidity), and he is incompetent when the talent level is lacking. He is a terrible game manager, and I simply can not wait until Attanasio wises up and shows him the door. This is a typical rant used by a lot of people who are classic second guessers. When the team wins, it's despite the manager. When it loses, it's because of him. Do you watch the games? Ron's "philosophy" makes more outs than Yuni's bat.
  3. Jim Henderson looks like Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys. http://www.aceshowbiz.com/images/wennpic/the-black-keys-perform-at-molson-canadian-amphitheatre-02.jpg http://cdn.c.photoshelter.com/img-get/I0000RBO8N0xMmnc/s/880/880/BRE-CBS-1329S001.jpg
  4. Just disgraceful. As soon as I saw runner on third and the infield in I knew there would be an out at the plate somehow. Ron, you suck.
  5. And the stupidity continues. There is no reason to throw Kintzler tonight.
  6. Hey Ron, act like you give a crap. The umps just reversed a call that cost you a run.
  7. What the heck is Ron doing? Brandon can't find the strikezone but he leaves him out there because the 49 guys in the bullpen have nothing better to do than spit sunflower seeds. I hate this guy so much.
  8. That's the thing about numbers. You can make them say whatever you want. The article probably presented them in a way that would prove its point.
  9. Ya, I was thinking maybe I'll go this year but then I realized a free event will mean a whole lot more people. So I'll still pass on going.
  10. Josh Johnson is almost to certain to get a one year deal but you're very likely only getting a half season out of him anyway.
  11. Going by the B-Ref stats he's pitched almost a full MLB starters season worth of innings every year since he was 18 but only once over 200. You can look at that as a lot of innings or a history of good health.
  12. I think Braun's ego is too big to let this have an affect on his play. He played a whole season and a half living a lie and he put up some of his best numbers.
  13. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/chantel-kendall-and-anna-benson-drive-vh1s-baseball-wives?urn=mlb,wp27702 I can't believe I missed this when it was on.
  14. The "all in" moves have nothing to do with Yuni getting time at first base. Injuries, lots and lots of injuries first of all, and an irrational love affair with a horrible player are to blame for that.
  15. I just read in the MJS that the Graffito is going to close after the holiday season. So because the guy who your restaurant is named after got suspended and you're just going to close it? People are going to lose jobs over this? Couldn't they just change the name? It must be doing pretty poorly to just close.
  16. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/06/sports/baseball/theres-rivera-and-theres-everyone-else.html?ref=sports&_r=0 Excellent article about the fallacy of the "closer" with some nice quotes from Dennis Eckersley who said "It's not as tough as you think."
  17. Scouts are supposed to scout more than physical skills. They also need to find out about a player's maturity.
  18. That happens in all walks of life. It has more to do with people being lazy and not actually making an effort to find the right or best person, just the quickest solution.
  19. You know Doug will throw some money at a veteran in January and season ticket sales will spike "because of it".
  20. His OBP this year is the same as it was the two previous years (.356 this year versus .360 and .361). Since he came off the DL his OPS is .836, right in line with his career of .844. If he wouldn't have played when his knee was injured his would be having a great season. Yes, injuries are a concern but he's not really declining with age yet.
  21. It's way early but I think Roache will put up a couple decent major league seasons. Maybe all star worthy.
  22. Nice to see some Brewers remember there are situations where you throw at a batter even after all the Macha and Roenicke years. I'm sure that was all on Martin and Willy and Ron had nothing to do with it. From the video it looked like McCutchen had no clue where the ball was. That seems really weird but after he found it he took a brisk walk around the bases. Someone needed to go down.
  23. 5-2 1-5 1-2 1-2 2-2 Where does that leave us?
  24. I think it's a rule that's you're supposed to be in or around the on-deck circle. Think. In youth, amateur, and semi-pro leagues I've played and coached in I've had umpires and other teams complain about on-deck batters standing behind the fence behind homeplate. I'm sure LaRussa would complain about it. I know that you do have to stay on your dugout's side of the field.
