  1. Tim Dillard announced his retirement this morning. He had resigned with Texas earlier this offseason. I know his antics aren't everyone's cup of tea and his MLB career is barely even worth mentioning, other than getting tossed for lobbing a ball behind a batter against the Twins about 10 years ago which I didn't even know happened until I stumbled on a clip on YouTube last week, but no one looked like they enjoyed being a baseball player more than he did. I got to meet him a few years ago before a SkySox game and he was a great guy to talk to. I sat right behind all the guys in the bullpen during that game and could hear everything they said. It was right before September callups and some of the guys were complaining about not getting called up. One pitcher came to the bullpen about the third inning and said he just got off the phone with his agent telling him to get him to a different organization and loudly ripping the Brewers organization and management. I just looked the guy up and he hasn't played in pro ball since that season. Eventually Tim spoke up and calmed the situation. He hadn't been on the active roster for weeks despite being healthy and was acting as a bullpen coach and catcher. He spent the rest of the game telling stories and the young guys really seemed drawn to him. Maybe he was taking the spot of a more deserving player but I'm sure his presence and influence was worth keeping him around.
  2. There's just way too much overthinking involved in batting order. Yelich, Huira, and Wong should be the top 3 in whatever order to start the season.
  3. Looking at his splits, Cain’s OBP was north of .320 against RHP in 2019 which is the figure used for this exercise. I’m not sure exactly what you’re saying though. Any player on the team could hit into a double play I guess? I provided the facts and figures over a 162 game sample. I mean sure he could hit into a double play just like Hiura, Narvaez, anybody could. Yelich could also have it where he comes up 110 times with nobody on base anyway like stated previously hitting in the two hole. The numbers account for things like double plays and fielder’s choices built into the numbers. Are you suggesting a guy like Hiura hitting second then because he strikes out at a high clip so there will be less double play opportunities? I’m not exactly following. I think he's saying we should never have a runner on first base due to the possibility of the double play.
  4. Dak, like Russell, will be complaining in a season or two that his team sucks and he wants out. That's what happens when you have one player take up 20ish% of your cap and then try to pay 51 other guys with the leftovers. Cowboys are in an even worse spot with Zeke and Cooper also taking up huge chunks.
  5. Somewhat on topic, quite a few years ago I brought a can of Diet Root Beer to a game. I know you're not supposed to bring cans but that's all I had at home and I wasn't going to pay $8 or whatever for a soda. After a few innings I opened it and put it in the cupholder. A little while later I saw an usher walking to me and I knew he was coming to take my can. He comes up to me and says "no cans allowed". So I give him my can. He then pulls out a plastic cup, pours the soda in the cup and gives it to me. Worked out better than I hoped.
  6. Josh clearly has some issues. A couple years ago I responded to one of his profanity laced tweets against MLB owners by saying that may not be the best way to go about your business as an agent. He then replied with multiple profanity laced hateful Tweets at me and then blocked me. That was the first and only time I had ever responded to his one of his Tweets. Or any Tweet for that matter.
  7. He went off the rails. Not any different than what he'd been doing on Twitter for awhile though. JJ's probably better off not being associated with him anymore.
  8. I don't think the tailgating has much to do with anything other than optics. There are all kinds of arguments about spread and what not, but in reality someone going to a game to get piss drunk has very, very likely not been taking this whole thing super seriously. And it will still be pretty low overall risk at a 25% full stadium. It simply just doesn't look good to open out of the gates with bag toss and 40 people drinking out of red solo cups. I'm not upset with the team in the slightest. With the rules in place and some things off the table, you get a different pool of people who are showing up too. It'll be people who know what they are getting into and will just do what they've been asked. I would assume many of those who chose to "follow the rules" and not tailgate before the game will instead sit in the enclosed space of a bar for a couple hours before the game while crammed in with a bunch of strangers without masks. [sarcasm]Corona averted![/sarcasm]
  9. I thought all the hype about Shaq wrestling in AEW was pointless and an unnecessary publicity grab for a C-list celebrity. But man I've got to give the guy credit, he took a sick bump through a table and looks just as good in the ring as any of the random giant, roided up guys WWE tries to put out there.
  10. Cain doesn't need to nor should he be playing 140-150 games at his age. Yelich needs to be in the lineup everyday. Bradley, Cain, and Garcia will get more than enough AB's rotating through.
  11. And this will be enforced how? I'm assuming the parking lots will be open since people need to park somewhere. Are they going to have security or police walking the lots telling drunks they can't stand around outside their cars? That's not going to end well.
  12. Which certainly shows how crappy the offense was last year more than anything. I'm sorry but all the wishing and hoping and trying to convince ourselves that Arica might maybe possibly someday be an even average hitter is pie in the sky thinking. The guy's had 5 years and almost 2000 PA's in the majors to prove himself and even at his best, he's been mediocre. But most of the time he's been downright putrid and there's nothing in his minor league stats that says we should expect otherwise. There are some bad hitters you watch at the plate and think, with that swing they could put it together some day. Arcia has the same terrible approach and the same horrible swing he had when he first came up. How he has survived as a major league starter without making any changes to those obviously horrible parts of his game is nothing short of amazing or a travesty. As far as I'm concerned, Urias should be the shortstop only because we don't know he's a terrible hitter and he at least has some minor league record of hitting.

  14. Haven't we felt that way about Arcia for about 3 years already?
  15. Haven't we felt that way about Arcia for about 3 years already?
  16. One year deal, sure. I'll take just about anyone on a one year deal. I think he probably gets overrated by posters here as many have lamented trading him for Greinke.
  17. This is terrific news. I'm guessing that everyone who wants a vaccine will be able to get one by early June or even May now. We might have a chance for a somewhat closer to normal summer yet! Just to follow up on this ... the current administration announced today that it is expected that enough vaccines will be available that everyone who wants one can get one by the end of May. This is awesome! I'll believe that when that happens. And don't take this as a shot (no pun intended) at the current administration cause it's not.
  18. How many trees have to die just so he doesn't have to go to Wikipedia or Baseball-Reference?
  19. Doesn't seem like he's going anywhere fast.
  20. Ya, I couldn't believe when I read that either. Also couldn't believe it's been 6 seasons already. I guess that's still a pretty long run.
  21. Possibly something to do with them probably not being able to play in Toronto at all this season. I would guess the team is going to be footing the bill for all their employees they have to relocate this year. Radio and TV announcers do essentially the same job at the same time, no reason to pay both groups.
  22. Yep ... should probably serve as a warning to those pushing for the Brewers to trade Hader. They'd probably be lucky to get 1-2 prospects back the caliber of Diaz and Harrison, let alone a Top 25 MLB prospect like Brinson was at the time. Ya, nothing's a sure thing but Hader has a lot more value now than when Yelich did at the time. Brinson was the only "top guy" we gave up. Diaz was well regarded and Monte and Yamamoto were essentially lotteries. I'd expect at least two "top guys" in return and certainly higher level prospects overall.
