  1. Vazquez is only a small part of it but the Pirates have really taken a nosedive the last few years. From an up and coming franchise to scrap heap rather quickly. You've got to think Hurdle is gone and Huntington probably would be too if he didn't just get an extension this year.
  2. Surprised this hasn't been brought up about the Brave's Charlie Culberson taking a pitch to the face while trying to bunt. The pitch was called a ball but was eventually appealed and called a strike by the first base ump. Seems to be a lot of backlash at the Nats for even appealing in that situation which is totally unwarranted as it was an important game between two playoff contenders and you can't just let a call go against your team because you feel bad for a player. I suppose if a runner falls to the ground after tearing his ACL while in a pickle you shouldn't tag him and just let him crawl to a base. Not to mention it was an obvious bunt attempt as Charlie made zero effort to pull his bat back despite the pitch coming straight for his face.
  3. Your point about your son is pretty much why the international market is so stupid. Why should your residence make any difference? If you're a US citizen with a hot shot baseball player 14 year old son why couldn't you just move the family to another country to get citizenship and then get him signed for millions of dollars as an international free agent. Better question, why hasn't someone done that yet. I'm sure there are plenty of agents that would help with that.
  4. With RP's it's not about injuries, it's about effectiveness. You can't pitch almost every day and not have part of your body get sore or tired. When that happens you lose control or velocity and wind up walking everyone or serving up meatballs. But totally agree about pitchers being babied.
  5. He touches 100 from an almost sidearm angle. His numbers may show some concerns but at least there's something to work with which is more than can be said about moste of the bottom feeding bullpen arms we trotted out this year.
  6. There are like 2 pitchers in the majors like Suter. He's basically the equivalent of a left handed submarine knuckleballer, i.e. someone so unlike any other pitcher in baseball batters are going to struggle because they never see it. Most pitchers these days are 95 and up with power breaking stuff. Then Suter comes along and just keeps pumping in BP fastballs and loopy curves and hitters don't know what to do with it.
  7. The only number that will really matter will be games played. Christian will have played 20 or more less games than the other candidates. I just can't see voters going for a guy who will have missed basically a whole month.
  8. You can pinch run in the middle of a homerun trot. Quite a few years ago I remember a guy hit a home run and stopped at second base because he blew out his knee or something and they put in a pinch runner to finish for him. There's also this... Found it, Gabe Kapler actually, and he didn't hit the home run but was on base and got hurt and was pinch ran for. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=726908836840
  9. You're totally conflating things here. OBJ is wearing an expensive watch, the same type Federer plays with while playing tennis. A high-high end fit bit essentially. What's wrong with that? Antonio Brown the day after the accusation; "You made me feel like a rapist." How does SHE make HIM feel that way? Though going off his text, I doubt he spelled any of those words right. He literally admitted in that text to assaulting her in a specific way while she was sleeping and laughed about it. Very different than OBJ wearing a watch during a game. Athletes in the NFL commit domestic violence at a lower rate than the general public. This is is just AB who's doing this. Also, she told Brown's chef the following day. His chef quit not long after and one chef is suing him(not sure if it's the same chef though). The point is act like a somewhat mature and responsible adult. The league said you can't wear a watch because it's a safety issue. I side with OBJ that it's not any more of a safety issue then what most other players wear but so what, don't wear the watch or shut your mouth and pay the fine. He's clearly just trying to draw some attention to himself for whatever reason. Like so much of the other crap some NFL players do, act like petulant children to get attention for whatever reason. Same with all the physical altercations players get into (with men and women) off the field. Act like an adult, don't hit people.
  10. The Cardinals play the Cubs and Nats 10 times to end the season. Go Cards...'scuse me, I threw up a little there.
  11. I'll just say what is with football players and their antics? Not just Brown and other DV stuff. OBJ got fined for wearing a watch during the game. It was a $100,000+ watch and he said he will continue to do it because it's an expensive watch so he needs to wear it all the time.
  12. 3 games left against the Cardinals, the rest of the season is against teams that any above average team should be able to roll through. Now, we know what happened last time the Brewers had stretch of games against teams like that but the pitching has looked a lot better and this offense is still so bad that I don't think losing Yelich can really make it that much worse.
  13. I seem to remember a few years ago, can't remember how many, the Brewers brought a bunch of 40 man guys that weren't called up to Milwaukee and had them work out with the team to keep them ready if any were needed.
  14. Players goes where the money is. Every now and then a guy like Jared Weaver takes a little to stay with a team and sometimes a veteran takes less from a winning team to get a title but 99% of players are going with whoever offers the most money. At no point in his life, even now probably, has Manny Machado felt a desire to play for the Padres but they offered him the most money so that's where he is.
  15. I'm pretty sure players have to pay for housing unless they have a host family.
  16. I know there are literally no other options but an IF of Perez, Spanginflinger, and Arcia is beyond barf. Throw in Austin at 1B and that's like a AAA no-star squad out there.
  17. I'm pretty sure it's more lack of trust in the starter getting through the order again than how good or bad the bullpen is.
  18. I don't know how anyone can complain about how CC has used the bullpen this year. Hader has been overall decent, a couple other guys have had a good few weeks, and everyone else has been terrible. Just about every option he had was a bad one. It's tough to make the right choice when all of your choices are bad.
  19. I get the Wall of Honor...but an official retirement thing? What on earth....? He didn’t even amass 10 WAR in his career and never had any type of award. Yikes This franchise has a habit of celebrating mediocrity. I guess that's really all they have to celebrate but still.
  20. Definitely not agent39, who scoffed at the mere suggestion of signing him to a 3-yr deal for $12 million. I believe he said he would be laughing at it. He's still being super over-confident on social media. Makes it seem like he has all the MLB offers he wants...and just needs to pick the one he likes best. I would love to see JJ latch on somewhere and have continued success. I'll be rooting for him so long as he plays for all but 1 MLB team. Careful, he may block you on Twitter if he sees this post.
  21. Since he has acquired zero MLB service time since 2012 it makes no difference at what age he "retires". This is just really weird that a player of his caliber gets a retirement ceremony 7 years since he last played. If this is a marketing ploy by the team, they could have picked a more well-known player. I highly doubt people were rushing to buy tickets to the game now that Bill Hall will be there. Heck, I bet half of the fans in the stadium have only been fans for a few years and will have no idea who he even is.
  22. Only gave up 1 run in 2+ innings? Bring him to Milwaukee. Need all the bullpen help we can get.
  23. He has 1,000 options for the next few weeks. Every RP will be on extremely short lease.
  24. I have no idea how anyone can take a couple of pills like these let alone take enough that they become addicted. I've twice had them prescribed for me. The first time after major surgery and the side effects from one pill were so bad I decided that I would rather have the pain than the side effects and didn't take another. The second time they just gave them to me and I never even took one.
  25. I think the obvious answer would be someone on the training staff. Probably not the head guy but someone in that area.
