  1. How is his trade value low? He's one of the best catchers in baseball. 2015 doesn't negate his body of work and he hit well in the 2nd half. He's healthy and looks like his 2014 self. Based on past performance and brewer fan opinions he is one of the best catchers in baseball. Fan graphs steamer projections rank him tied for 14th best catcher. More like middle of the road.
  2. My fear with Lucroy is that teams see his 2015 numbers and see an aging catcher with injury risk who is not worth giving up much for. His trade value is very low. We really rely on Lucroy to have a solid first couple months of the season or we are not getting anything back which would be disappointing.
  3. I'm excited we got a solid prospect for Segura. I do have questions about Aaron Hill however. Is he even worthy of a MLB roster spot anymore? Looking over stats, he was one of the worst hitting 2B in all of the league the past two years. By war, the worst actually. I would rather see Walsh platoon with Scooter, and have a real SS as backup to Villar.
  4. I am a big fan of this idea, or some form of rule to limit the loogy/roogy. I would adjust to say that a reliever has to finish the inning OR face a minimum of 3 batters in the inning (or 4). This way a manager can pull a relief pitcher who is having a bad day, but not after facing just one or two batters.
  5. Manfred quotes below suggest that this isn't nearly the done deal some are suggesting. I hope DH stays out of the NL. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/01/manfred-on-international-draft-expansion-dh-cba.html Manfred said “The most likely result on the designated hitter for the foreseeable future is the status quo,” he told Crasnick. “I know [Cardinals general manager] John Mozeliak talked about it, and when you have any National League club talking about it, it’s interesting. But I think the vast majority of clubs in the National League want to stay where they are.”
  6. It seems that this makes Braun's 5/$100 contract look pretty good.
  7. Seeing as he only has 3.159 years of service time, can't the Brewers control him for 3 years under arbitration? He can be a brewer through 2018? I am not sure how this works but hope someone here does.
  8. This is season 5 with no forseeable end to the pattern. 2011: Prince 2012: Hart, Ishikawa, Taylor Green, Gamel, Brooks Conrad 2013: Yuni, Juan Francisco, Sean Halton, Alex Gonzalez, Blake Lalli 2014: Reynolds, Overbay, Clark, Rogers 2015: Lind, Rogers
  9. Plenty of GMs would rather take a $30M risk that Garza will rebound than a $100M risk on a free agent pitcher. No GM would take that risk on Garza. If they would he'd be gone by. Now. Goodbye. Gone I said it in the other trade thread and few agreed with me but I would just drop Garza now and have it done with. It's just going to be this continuing saga. He'll start with a long leash and continue to log terrible starts. Then there will be some inevitable drama about his demotion to the pen. He will probably embarrass himself in the media again. All the while he will block younger and more capable pitchers with a potential future worth looking at. Then he'll finally be gone without any return worth the agony watching him pitch every five days or without any return at all.
  10. De Grom is throwing too many pitches in the zone. He needs to throw some balls to keep them guessing.
  11. I don't see why Matz gets pulled after 4 1/3 innings after giving up 1 run on 75 pitches. He just gave up two singles of which one should have been called an error (if mlb actually called balls hit in outfield errors). I don't doubt Colon can get it done as well but let the kid pitch.
  12. I think the best move would be to keep Garza for at least a couple of months. If he is poor, then he gets moved to the pen and if that doesn't work then out the door. If he does well, then I would look to move him for whatever asap. Get him out before he comes up with some injury. All this has the additional benefit of keeping the service clock from starting for some minor league pitcher. The new GM would have some leeway with Melvin's mistake, but just think if he cuts him now and Garza produces for his new team, while we are paying the bill. Sure, but the way I see it playing out in reality is that Garza will be terrible for two months. There will be some saga about moving him to the bullpen, way later too late, then the trade deadline hits and we have a SP who is 3-10 with an ERA north of 5. Or let's say he turns it around and is average SP, which I think is unlikely but possible. Even under this best case scenario his trade value is so low that it's not worth keeping him around. He is blocking development of younger and better SP's with more potential. And he is being let off the hook for refusing a bullpen assignment which I find unacceptable. The chance of Garza netting a trade of any significant value is completely out of reach.
  13. Urias is probably the most untradeable prospect in baseball right now. With Friedman running the show now it's going to take a young, controlled superstar to get him. Trout and Harper are probably the only guys they would consider for him. Prospects are simply not that valuable, especially to teams with $300M payrolls. That said, I don't think 30+ Braun and mediocre-2015 Lucroy are what they would want for Urias. Ok, so Urias is out of reach. Guess it's time to go back to the drawing board.
  14. You're going to be waiting around for nothing, in my opinion. I would certainly move Garza for another bad contract that is comparable, and a bench/platoon bat would be worthy. I would move him for anything. I am appalled by Garza's refusal to pitch out of the bullpen and his negative comments in the press towards Melvin, considering he was perhaps the worst SP in all of baseball, and the Brewers have plenty of young SP with more potential, who actually proved they are better than Garza once finally given the chance. He acts so entitled. Garza is an aging SP deep in decline and I don't see him as a candidate for bounce back season. Barring any trade I think the Brewers should just eat his contract so we don't have to go through this Wolf/Lohse/Suppan final year charade yet again. He has No value.
  15. How about Braun & Lucroy for Urias and Puig? Brewers pay part of Braun's salary. Is that realistic? I think Braun has too many issues, and Lucroys value has to be pretty low after this year.
  16. Hate to sound like an advertisement but I have watched every NL playoff game on tbs via sling TV, for $20, and found it to be of great value. While I just subscribed to sling to watch the NL playoffs (mets are my #2 team), I have been pleased to be watching some ESPN and Cnn amongst other major cable networks and will probably keep my subscription after the playoffs, unexpectedly. I like this low cost option better than "free tv" because my digital antenna has unreliable reception. Usually when I watch games on fox I get frustrated with lack of reception, and other channels don't come in at all. I have found no good answer for FS1. I haven't subscribed to regular cable for ages and suspect I never will again. Too many other better options.
  17. That was he first time the Cubs have ever won a playoff series at home. It has been 107 years since they won the WS The Brewers have the 5th longest WS draught in MLB. 46 years. Houston, Texas and Chicago Cubs are in front of them, along with Clevelnad. Ł
  18. I got sling TV specifically so I could watch the MLB playoffs. I can watch games on fox with antenna and tbs and ESPN with sling. Then I realized almost all the AL games are on FS1. Is there any legal way to watch FS1 without having to purchase cable or satellite TV? Thanks for any tips.
  19. I read the statement and listened to Joe torre's bumbling press conference and none of it explained why Utley was safe, despite not touching the base.
  20. Can anyone explain how Utley is called safe on a play where he clearly never touched the base. That is the deciding factor in the game. Unreal.
  21. My initial thought was that the Yankees don't even have use for him on a 25 man playoff roster, since he was pretty bad this year. Then I look at his numbers and see Sabathia has been quite good the past couple months, a 2.8 ERA since the start of August, and it seems kind of odd this is happening now...
  22. Wow really? By comparison colors field is 5,200 feet above sea level.
  23. I like the idea of a 3 game playoff including a double header. I hope mlb makes that work without extending the season any longer as the World Series now goes into November which I think is a problem. Baseball should finish in October. An easy solution is to start the season earlier. For some reason opening day was April 6 this year. Mlb should make April 1 opening day every year regardless of the day of the week. This adds 5 days allowing to fit in a wild card double header AND game 7 of the WS to be scheduled 10/31 instead of 11/4. I am not a fan of reducing the 162 game season at all. Historical statistics and records hold great meaning to me and if you change the length of the season you wipe out all of that.
