  1. The Brewers historically have sent good hitting prospects, relievers, injury comeback guys, and occasionally a non-drafted free agent. Here are my guesses, although it all depends on what priority positions we get. catcher: Garfield 1b: Morris OF: Khris Davis Utility: Kjeldgaard/Prince starter: Bucci starter: Bradley reliever: Arnett reliever: Wooten reliever: ??? Williams fits the mold of Bausher and other non-drafted free agents we've sent there Manzanillo cannot play in the AFL, unless the rules have changed. It used to be that if the player's home nation had a league, they weren't eligible for the AFL unless the national teams did not want him (the exception was when Escobar played short after Hardy talked his way out of playing)
  2. wow...13 baserunners in 5 innings, and only 3 runs? Not sure how anyone could limit that damage
  3. how about Prince back to SS?
  4. I'd rather have Mike Fontenot, who was also released today. He's played some SS (was a college SS as well), and has nice OBP and approach from the left side
  5. My view on $4 million is that it's half what he's making this year, and could probably keep him here for a year. That's the going rate for a good setup man, except it normally takes a 3 year commitment
  6. Rogers should have been out of that inning with 2 runs. the hit to right-center wasn't catchable by Morgan, but should have been cut off for a single. Gomez easily should have caught the blooper to center, but he started back and then froze before coming in.
  7. Rogers curve sure looks nice, although I hate the CF cam. He got screwed on the perfect first curve to Descalso
  8. K-Rod has had two awful months. At the same time, he won't get a closer role next year, so I'd consider using this poor year to offer him a 1 year deal for $4 million. I'd offer Marcum 1 year for $8 million as well, with a 2 year $22 million option should he show he's healthy
  9. paul, why does that impact Green's future with the Brewers? I guess I don't get the mindset that just because a player is in AAA and is blocked, that we must move him. There's nothing wrong with letting Green remain in AAA, especially since he's had so little success in pro-ball. I loved Green as a prospect and kept rooting for him, but let's not forget that in the last 4 years he's had only perhaps 4-5 good months (even last year he struggled in April). Yes most of that was due to injury. But I can't compare him to Gamel since Mat never struggled in the minors.
  10. As usual I agree with pogokat. Additionally, why do people want to move Ramirez? We've waited for what, 15 years to have an adequate 3b. Now we have an above average 3b and the only knock on him is his contract. I guess some people will never be happy. I honestly don't think we're that far from contending next year. And while Gamel may not be a starter at 3b, I realize he has almost no value in a trade. I'd hate to release his potential. So perhaps either he plays RF or he becomes our utility player that amasses 50 starts between RF, LF (Braun always has random nagging injuries), 1b, 3b, and DH. That's probably a low-ball projection, but in a season with 250 at bats, we'd be finally giving him a chance and we'd be dramatically improving our bench. I also would offer Gonzalez a 1 year deal for around $3 million. I'd tell him he's the starter to open the season, but if Segura becomes ready, the Brewers could give him the choice to be a top utility guy (and defensive replacement) or be traded. If Segura isn't ready in 2013, then he's the guy all season.
  11. If we had a bunch of pitchers that were overvalued and about to get expensive, then the A's approach would work. Look at their history and how they've allowed pitchers to be a revolving door in their plans despite developing studs such as Mulder, Zito, Hudson, Harang, Blanton, Street, and they guys you mentioned. Since the Brewers guys under contract are position players and likely to play well, I'm not inclined to deal them like I would pitchers that are always one pitch away from the DL
  12. I'd happily trade for Lee, but the Phillies need to make that contract palatable. Let's forget about current signed players getting raises. We clear $8 million when K-Rod is gone, $9 million Wolf, Greinke $13.5 million, and a slew of guys making around $2 million could go, including Gomez, Morgan, Loe, Veras, etc. Without dealing part of the core, that's potentially around $35 million trimmed from the 2012 to 2013 payroll. Of course, I know others are making more money, but it would be possible to fit Lee into the current salary structure.
  13. I didn't realize Clint Coulter was sporting an OBP over .400. Good job young man!
  14. I was also there when Kevin Seitzer got his jaw broken on a pitch by Kevin Tapani (or was it Scott Erickson??). It was Memorial Day in probably '94 or '95, and I caught my first foul ball off the bat of Joe Oliver at the game. I was a dufus, caught it off a deflection off the mezzanine camera pit on the 1st base side...I tracked it the entire way and never even stood, as it gracefully came into my glove. I was holding a slice of cheese pizza in my right hand
  15. I've been to the Brewers' countless wins in AZ over the years, including Jody Gerut's cycle. The coolest thing would have to be when John Mabry (Cardinals) called his own home run.
  16. PrinceEatMeat is likely right. Why worry about the qualifying offer....we'll likely keep him for 1 year and $7-8 million. That's a heck of a bargain for a guy that--if healthy--would command probably $12-15 million per year on the open market
  17. He's under contract for 2 more years. He likes Milwaukee. I'm in no hurry to deal him
  18. Gomez isn't really bunting less because he rarely got his bunts fair. I don't care much about SLG. I'm a fan of OBP. Given that Gomez's defense is marginally better than Morgan, I can't justify benching Morgan vs righties. His Obp skills are what is needed
  19. I'd trade Hart before Weeks, Axford, and Ramirez. But I agree on dealing our glut of backup shortstops, Loe, Parra, K-Rod, kottaras, Wolf, etc
  20. interesting to hear Lopez needs to get a passport. Wonder if this was in the works for some time, but contingent on that formality
  21. TheCrew, Yost looked promising until he got hurt and was permanently moved to 1b.
  22. Zzzmanwitz, Maldonado is a backup catcher. Weeks is a run-producer. Not fair to compare them.
  23. I was actually pondering if we go the direction of selling, we may want to give Parra one last chance at starting. Also, it would probably be hard to move Marcum. He may struggle in free agency. So we may be able to retain him on a 1-2 yr deal. Loe should be moved for sure.
  24. Super 2 status might mean $1-2 million difference. I can't imagine it would mean anything more than $3 million. That's a difference, but it's not worth holding a player back for when that might be what we spend on a lesser free agent to occupy his spot. We're still going to have his rights for 7 big league seasons.
  25. Rogers' last 3 starts: 19IP 9h 5bb 2er 17k 0.95ERA 0.74WHIP I know it's not necessarily fair to be choosy, but let's hope he's turning a corner. Perhaps the first half was about feeling comfortable out there, and perhaps now he's getting back to where he was in 2010
