  1. ouch...hurts there that the ump misses two strikes to Barmes. 2-1 count instead of 0-2 or strikeout are a big difference.
  2. Why would we be overpaying for Marcum if he's stated openly that he wants to stay. He's likely to accept market or below market value if he really wants to stay. To get a comparable pitcher we would need to overpay by probably 10%
  3. I wonder if Evan's velocity would increase with a bump to a bullpen. a 90 mph heavy sinker fits the mold of Wickman, Weathers, Dejean, and now Loe
  4. I remember going to a game in Arizona in which our first three hitters were Devon White, James Mouton, and some other speedster and thinking that the lineup was pretty impotent.
  5. I haven't seen much written about him in a while. He was one of our better prospects a few years ago after having a great year in A+ at a young age. He was planning on working on trying to re-gain some velocity from high school, but unfortunately got hurt the next year. He had a good season last year and is off to a nice start this year. The only really large changes from his previous success in Brevard County are that his K/9 and H/9 have both gone the wrong way, although these can be expected as one first hits AA. He used to be known for his sinker. Does anyone know how he's throwing these days? Is his velocity good? any off-speed pitches?
  6. It'll be up to Taylor Green, Hart, and Weeks to hit like we've been hoping for.
  7. Why would you be disappointed if we retained Marcum and Gallardo? We are not going to land an ace. Realistically, Yo is a solid #2 starter, Greinke a weak #1, Marcum a strong #3, and Narvy a very good number 5. But Narvy likely won't be counted on next year, Wolf was a very good number 4 the last two years but has been crap this year and likely won't be retained. If we can't re-sign Greinke then Marcum shifts from being a luxury to being a necessity. I don't want to open 2013 with a rotation of Gallardo, Rogers, Peralta, Thornburg, and Fiers. We need to retain at least one of Marcum and Greinke.
  8. He's a very good #3 pitcher. I'd definitely consider locking him up for 3-4 years at $10-12 million apiece. He's only 30 and has now had 4.5 very effective seasons. The concern I have is that he might get more than that on the open market. We know he's had his agent approach the Brewers about an extension and was disappointed. I think the Brewers would like him, but they first need to know if they can keep Greinke, and how much he would cost. Still, we likely wouldn't be able to land a starter of his caliber on the open market, and it's a pipedream that Peralta, Scarpetta, Rogers, or anyone else could match his numbers, especially in 2013-15
  9. I kind of miss the old days where we could listen to the conference call and they'd cover a round in about 4 minutes. Of course, it is nice having round 1 on tv.
  10. just to confirm...Is Monday just round 1 and the supplemental round? I seem to recall the draft being 3 days and 40 rounds now
  11. surprised they have Arcia on the Helena roster. If he were on the DSL roster this wouldn't count towards his minor-league free agency clock
  12. oldcity, if we foolishly let Marcum, Wolf, and Greinke all walk, then Rogers might be part of the rotation next year. It's possible him, Fiers, and Peralta could all be in the rotation.
  13. Rickie should bust out one of his old bats with the several inches of tape on the handle. Time for a change
  14. Getting her husband back in early July could be huge. If we can find a way to win till then, it would be huge to add his bat. Plus it's nice to see what Maldonado can do.
  15. Rickie normally squares up 2-3 balls per night...I havent seen him square up 3 balls over the last 3 weeks. even his ground balls have been weak rollers. I'd like to see us start Green for a series at 2b to try to let Rickie clear his head. He'll still press, but maybe his cage work will help regain confidence
  16. Hiandtight, I'm with you on these guys. I could see Heckathorn developing into a Weathers/Loe type with a heavy sinker. I just don't know if he has that second pitch. We really haven't heard anything about him and his stuff since he was drafted. As for Arnett, I've been wanting to hear reports on his stuff. We know he had the shoulder injury last year and his stuff has generally been far less than pre-draft. With Scarpetta, I'd just like for him to climb on a mound this year. Do we even know what injury has been bothering him?
  17. Gotta say, Fiers' delivery reminds me a lot of Matt Wise where there almost seems to be a hitch before the ball comes out. I like what we've seen of Fiers and I hope he continues to get starts.
  18. If Prince can up his average to around .275 (he's come a long ways in May), his OBP would be around .380. I wish he were still playing SS, though. My only hope is that the Brewers perhaps are trying to make him into a utility-type and are moving him around the outfield for experience, and will hopefully let him play more SS as the season goes on
  19. also nice to see Rogers get more than a K/inning, even if he did allow 4 runs. He's been treading water, but it would be nice to see a string of good games
  20. I'm glad to see Hawn and Dishon heating up. One with raw power and the other with raw tools
  21. I love Vin Scully. Man, we got hosed on that play at 2nd where Maldonado and Maysonnet had the guy picked off. Would be 2-0 still had the ump seen it
  22. xis, in fairness the bullpen has been better with leads/close games lately. Ramirez and Morgan have heated up a bit. The biggest hole has been Weeks. He can nearly help replace Fielder....but he hasn't done much yet
  23. wow Bombers, I've been really impressed with Greinke in his year+. I guess you expect cy young awards every year! RockCoCougars, I've been trying to say that but some people think teams should be imploded after only 50 games.
  24. ah, sorry. makes sense now. I'd love to see Kintzler in the major league pen, but right now he's just making sure the arm is sound after what happened last year with setbacks. Still, it would be hard to imagine him not being better than Dillard or Veras
  25. adam, I like the idea of baserunners. over the course of the season we're going to be happy with Weeks, Ramirez, and Lucroy stepping up to the plate with extra runners on. Much as Ryan can wreak havoc with the bat, I like guaranteed base runners. I'm not sure how I get your point. Since you bash the Brewers for bunting and giving up outs, shouldn't you be bashing other teams every time they choose to walk Braun? Aoki has been pretty good so far. I think what they like about him hitting second isn't just bunting (as you say) but his ability to foul off pitches, spray it to all fields, give Corey time to occasionally steal, and avoid hitting into double plays. If you reverse it and put Hart 2nd, you'd end up with Braun being walked a lot. Instead of it going "Hart hit, Aoki Sac, Braun Walk," it could go "Aoki single, Hart GIDP, Braun pitched around" or "Aoki single, Hart K w/Aoki stealing 2nd, Braun walked". We could play the CF platoon batting 2nd. We could bat Lucroy 2nd. We could bat Weeks there. But we don't have many options
