  1. wow! so huge! Corey you can't play defense and drive us crazy with your hitting (or lack thereof), but I love you right now big ugly dude
  2. time for hart to hit into the 6-4-3. maybe the shift will prevent the gidp
  3. Ramirez with a nice play on that one, and an adequate throw. Al would call that a hit, not an error. And with Fielder at 1st the throw would have gone in the dugout. I blame the inning more on Lucroy's inability to block pitches and keep them close IN that inning. Throw in a bunch of nickle-and-dimed hits, and a typical Cubs-Brewers finish.
  4. wait? mediocre at best before Sveum? please, state a fact and we'll talk.
  5. I don't get Rock's comment that we were pinch hitting for Wolf to put in the offense. Wolf's arguably a better hitter than Ishikawa. Heck, he might be better than half our lineup. And Veras has good stuff, but man he has to stop nibbling
  6. actually, I like to consider myself the king of shifting! As Santa Clara University we participated in the Sunday afternoon intramurals mens softball league. We hardly ever had our full squad there, and this Law School squad had a couple of former HS jocks (they were the one team to show up with their own bats, spikes on, etc). This one lefty would always crush the softball. I played first base usually, and I decided that I was tired of giving up home runs to the guy so instead of positioning all the soccer player fast guys in our OF I just jogged out there to a spot. So to summarize, we played with no one on the right side of the infield. The SS stayed on the bag to field a throw from the OF, and we used 5 OFs, with the 1b playing the deep RF position. His next 5 AB's against us wound up being flyouts to me in the longest F-3 putouts I've ever seen. So yeah, I take credit!
  7. Given what we know about Lawrie, I could see him playing on several teams, having occasional great years, like Gary Sheffield. We know from the comments that he thinks the universe revolves around him.
  8. I'm a little baffled here. People are upset that he's not starting, yet when he was sent to AAA over being the 6th inning pinch hitter, people were furious. I'm not sold on Ishikawa, but he was a solid prospect and he may need an opportunity. I'd like Green to start some games, but by no means am I upset.
  9. I don't get your post at all. First of all, he's not better than any pitcher we currently have, except maybe Dillard. Secondly, he's had 5 weeks of success in his career...that's it. Finally, I don't buy the age argument. Let him try AA and AAA before we try him in the majors. I may get excited more about a 21 year old in AAA than a 29 year old, but in the end, what matters is if they can impact the majors
  10. Heckathorn seems to have a higher strikeout rate this year. As a pro, we haven't heard much about his velocity, but we see him getting lots of groundouts. In college he was known as a power arm throwing 97-98. So I don't know much about him. I'm holding out hope for him to really redeem that draft. Arnett finally has an ERA under 4, but even then he's allowing a hit every outing.
  11. I'd move Lucroy to the 2 spot. He shoots the ball to all fields.
  12. nice thing with Prince is that it appears his OBP skills from rookie ball have re-emerged. keep taking those walks kid, then dust off the SS glove
  13. ....if we'll bring him in. He was my favorite player for about a decade when injuries suddenly caught up to him. He had the rough aging that Griffey did. But it could be worth exploring. He's still been pretty good in recent years.
  14. toolivebrew, the odd thing is that Prince was supposedly a strong defender.
  15. Why forget about him? He's been productive every time we've had him. The only problem is we played Hall over him last time and he got hurt in his first go 'round with us. Cheap productivity is good
  16. I say we check in on Russell Branyan for 1b. Could be cheap 30 hr. he's been good every other time we've called upon him
  17. I've been upset this year with the strike zone. I usually follow games with my Ipad which has the gametracker pitchfx data. It's amazing how Gallardo, Greinke, and KRod have walked people multiple times this year when only 1 or 2 pitches should have legitimately been called balls. I don't remember this as a problem in past years. It used to be 1 or 2 missed per game. But now I'm seeing some games where there are 3 or 4 missed per inning.
  18. Wooten has had one injury and has dominated at all levels. Remember, Jason Childers got several years in MLB and his stuff was nowhere near as good as Wooten's. As for McClendon, he still has some very solid MLB numbers. I was shocked when they were posted this spring. I guess I really wrote him off as an ineffective starter in A-ball.
  19. To be honest, I would think Wooten or McClendon are our next pitchers called up. I'd have to imagine he'll see AAA soon given his significant amount of dominance at AA. I don't care if he's not a hard thrower, although I wonder if velocity has gone up after Tommy John Surgery
  20. wow, Rogers and Arnett with good outings on the same night? Giggity giggity
  21. Parra should be safe. He's had one or two bad outings, but he's usually called in when the team is getting beaten badly. Throw in that he missed a year, and I've been pleasantly happy.
  22. Ender, has he even hit a ball to the warning track? He may have warning track power, but I haven't seen anything to even normal outfield depth. As of now he's a lot like Tony Gwynn JR only with less speed and greater bat control. I trust his Japanese stats, but by no means am I proclaiming him a starter yet
