  1. Also, wanted to point out that the rules changed and only the first 10 picks are protected, not 15
  2. Baseball is usually much better at keeping things under wraps. But in this case the popularity and image of Braun is why this has lingered in the news.
  3. Good to see others are in agreement with me that it'll be the O's. I've always thought Angelos must be looking to make his first splash since Albert Belle. Prince would like that ballpark, and he could DH after age 30. As for K-Rod...the only frustrating thing is that we likely would have gotten higher draft picks had K-Rod signed with someone than Fielder. I like having K-Rod, but I would have liked two extra first rounders
  4. Cleveland St looks like the top team in the league this year, but I also am expecting UWM to be a top contender in the conference. You can't count out Valpo or Butler....heck, Butler needed a miracle to even make the big dance last year. I always love following the Horizon league, MVC, WCC (where I went to school), and Big East. The CAA can be fun, too
  5. I think the numbers for Weeks, Ramirez, and Gamel are low for most folks. catchers- 15 Gamel- 23 Weeks- 34 Braun- 29/37 depending on suspension Ramirez- 34 Hart- 27 Gomez/Morgan- 6 ------- 168/176, not counting backups
  6. I didn't realize Nick Punto ever haunted anyone. No loss to the division. He's basically a younger version of Counsell. And our lack of a utility IF makes me think either Farris or Wheeler gets a shot, or maybe we bring back Craig for one last hurrah
  7. Invader, I was thinking that perhaps Greinke was so comfortable in Milwaukee that perhaps he is willing to negotiate on his own. It's rare, but since Greinke is unique, he might want to have full control over things
  8. I like the idea of adding a utility infielder. Theriot would be one of the better backups
  9. TooLiveBrew, I think it was on the jsonline blog or on Haudricourt's twitter account. But he was quoted as telling Green to get a 1b mitt. I consistently for years have considered the three G's to be a huge part of our future (Green, Gindl, Gamel). I think all project somewhere in the .280-.300 range with 15-25 HR and .350+ OBPs. Best thing is all are lefthanded bats. I prefer letting Green continue to build on success in AAA for the time being, knowing that he's a flight away from the majors. I'd rather have the backup 3b/1b be a guy that's never really meant to start, just pinch hit. If one gets hurt, Green gets called up to start, not the backup. With Gindl, I prefer what he brings to the table for the team over Shafer or Gomez each day in LF. Gomez is valuable on defense, but I'd like to use the chance to stick Gindl in LF to see how he looks, balance the lineup, and provide some possible doubles and homers that Shafer wouldn't likely provide. I foresee Farris getting a legitimate shot to be a utility guy, perhaps competing with Wheeler (we never learned why he stopped playing SS last year, or why he was sent to AA, though)
  10. Hart is one of the slowest Brewers these days, but I think what makes him such a terrible outfielder is that he doesn't wear contacts/glasses. It's one thing to judge a fairly flat pitch, but how can you judge depth when your vision is weak? Braun is much better in the outfield than Hart
  11. Toolivebrew, I am putting stock in how Gindl has flown under the radar while exceeding expectations at a very young age at every level. He likely also needs more time in AAA, but it's impressive since he's been pushed (and performed) like few other Brewers prospects in recent history. As for Green, he's a big part of my plan and i'm glad Melvin told him to get a 1b mitt. I just like te idea of him getting the AB's he missed out on while recovering from surgery. I also don't expect our backup 1b/2b/3b to pay very much.
  12. greg, I also think that since Green isn't likely to be a starter in the next few years, I want him starting in AAA rotating between 2b and 3b to be ready (since we know Weeks and Aramis Ramirez will both have injuries at times). I would expect him to be in the the majors plenty in the next two years, but I like the idea of actually letting a logjam build in AAA rather than trading it away
  13. Owings was non-tendered. I'd love to take a chance on him as our 25th man as a PH/reliever. We had success with Kieschnick, and I like versatility for the 25th man
  14. Green needs more time in AAA. The last time he had success before the 2/3rds of a season this year was pre-Sabathia trade. I love his potential, but I want to make sure he had ample time to make adjustments, and I'm a bit worried that last year was just a ridiculous hot streak starting in mid-May. Hence why I'd like to see Green in AAA for depth for '12 and part of '13.
  15. TooLiveBrew, I like most of the lineup, except I'd do this for the time w/out Braun: CF Morgan 1b Gamel 2b Weeks 3b Ramirez RF Hart LF Gindl C Lucroy SS Gonzalez I would rather play Gindl to try to get some OBP and SLG in the lineup from the left side than put Gomez out there on a daily basis.
  16. I'd consider Loe the weak link in the pen. If his price is too high, then we should let him go
  17. I love the signing, particularly since in the Trade Rumors thread, I predicted 3 years and $36 million. Still haven't heard the buyout or option, but I have a chance of nailing one for once. The McGehee trade makes sense since I wouldn't have advocated offering him arbitration due to budgetary constraints. As of now, our team is better at 3b, SS, CF (platoon entire year), 2b (healthy), and in the pen (full season of K-Rod). The only positions we are weaker are 1b (might not be a huge dropoff if Gamel can keep decent OBP, crack 20 hr, and play defense) and LF (Braun out for 1-2 months with Gindl will possibly help the team realize how expendable Hart is)
  18. I expect Shafer and Green to open in AAA, with Farris and Gindl on the opening day roster (Gindl in LF, Farris as Utility).
  19. Interesting, since I viewed the problems being more with Xavier. Cinci's players might be thugs...heck, they've always been that way as long as I can remember. But Xavier's have as well, and it all started with Xavier's guy talking smack before halftime, then shoving the guy that instigates the melee. I thought Cinci's punishments were weak, but I thought Xavier's were pathetic.
  20. The next step should be adding Ramirez tomorrow. The reason is that his trip will be over AND the non-tender deadline is tomorrow night. We'll need to know whether or not to offer McGehee a contract
  21. why wouldn't he? We'll pay him, and he's close to home
  22. The issue isn't with ESPN...it should be with whomever leaked the story to ESPN.
  23. Logan, why do you like Hart? He's adequate, but I don't know a single person that lists him among their favorites. I have 4 or 5 people that want him to never wear a Brewers uniform again.
  24. Mass, I agree on most of your points. I can't imagine us non-tendering Morgan and Marcum. I think Melvin likes Loe and Gomez far more than I do, although they will be overpaid. I like Kottaras but agree he could be non-tendered. That leaves Parra, and it will depend on how he is throwing. He's had some big league success and--if throwing well--could be a steal.
  25. wow, Xavier and Cincinnati with a crazy brawl. It's an intense rivalry. My friends that went to Xavier used to always think they were taking the high road despite the fact that their players were as thuggish as the Cinci teams under Huggins. Pretty crazy, as both teams face heavy suspensions
