  1. wow, that's a blatant scoring mistake. Gomez takes yet another awful route to the ball and--as usual--he recovers, only to see it clank off his glove. I thought only Al and the scorer in Pittsburgh could rule that a hit.
  2. youngGeezy, I see both as positives! Anundsen on fire, and Pascual with only 3 walks in an inning!
  3. Interesting with Dillard throwing 88. He used to throw 95-96 when he first reached the big leagues, but he had only the one pitch--a heavy sinker
  4. WTP, I'm pretty sure JJ wants to win and wants to get paid. Now that he's a free agent, what happened in pre-arby days should be insignificant
  5. drop broadcasting rights so that I can get 162 games on satellite.
  6. TheCrew07, hindsight is 20/20. I remember being one of the few that didn't like Zach Jackson, and even then I still feel the deal was adequate. We didn't fleece the Jays, but we also got the better end of the deal.
  7. tedaldtada29, when I think of an MLB-ready lefty, I always think of Jeremy Sowers. So I'm not a huge fan at this point
  8. once again folks, I think we need a lefty bat to be a DH for 9 games this month. Should it be Gamel or Branyan to balance the lineup? I'm fine with either, as long as Gamel doesn't rot on the bench for 3 weeks before/after
  9. I'd actually considering signing him if even only for the month of June. We have 9 AL games with a DH before the All Star Break. Throw in that he could play passable defense at 3b or RF once a week, and he could be a valuable addition. Looking at the AL games, our only option to provide power from the left side is Gamel. If a roster move has to be made, why not simply add Branyan and keep Gamel raking in AAA? Almonte has no value to us, and a third catcher really has no value. Kotsay's value has been surprisingly strong lately, but with Morgan returning he'll be unimportant unless Gomez is sent to AAA. And Boggs likely will also be without a spot on the club.
  10. Theoretically we could send Gomez to the minors. Nobody will want to pay him that much money so he won't get claimed. Yet, in AAA he could play everyday and work on things in a less-stress environment.
  11. cwolf, Betancourt leading the league in SF and also having deep drives to the OF on a nightly basis meant that he could see his BA on balls in play creep up. He drives the ball well. Our issue is that he has this Bill Hall-like philosophy of wanting to ambush the first pitch fastball every time.
  12. With Rivera in MLB, I don't see Almonte returning to the Brewers given his production. I would think they'll DFA him and he'll accept, since he got some healthy paychecks from the Brewers.
  13. Kotsay has been doing fine. But I would definitely offer Branyan a AAA contract, perhaps even a big league contract
  14. We should be hearing some Arnett news soon I would think
  15. Colby, what about the Horizon HS guys. I know that Jordan Dunatov, Nick Valenza, and Zach Stierstorfer have been talking with scouts lately. Have you heard any projections for them?
  16. Gregmag, perhaps I read it wrong. I thought that interestobserver was claiming that MLB's attempts to try to manipulate the draft are illegal and wrong, along with being unlikely to happen because the Union would be foolish. That was the tone I read it with. I was reading it as interestobserver was probably a college age student in that's recently learned a lot about trade rights in the free market place, although I guess I now would assume he's a banker since I'm re-reading his name. I was probably being way too sarcastic, but I believe MLB can do anything it wants, especially since the players Union is the most pliable that it's ever been. The CBA determines the rules of baseball, and it is NOT a truly free market (although it's free-er than other sports). I apologize if I read things in between the lines that weren't there....probably stress from all of my Econ students taking finals yesterday
  17. Man, Braun is day-to-day. I wish we had Katin on our roster right now.
  18. For the Brewers we had guys like Loretta and Cirillo that never profiled that highly, Vina as well. Troy O'Leary had a solid career after leaving Milwaukee. Keith Ginter looked adequate but roid-aided. Carlos Villanueva was never a prospect. David Eckstein had several very good years. Marco Scutaro was minor league fodder for several clubs, including the Brewers.
  19. wow, I was hoping RR would be doing my move--leaving Estrada in to finish it. Instead he's going to the pen and burning at least 3 relievers for tomorrow instead of the 1 I wanted.
  20. Random thought...if we could send Gomez to the minors, I'd love to see him try learning to hit lefty. Focusing on contact and not trying to hit all balls out of the park could make him more selective. And he'd be lethal at bunting from the left-side
  21. I would let Estrada finish the game. That's part of the reason I liked how Yost used his personnel, because he's the only Brewers manager that I recall would let his long men pitch 3-4 innings to finish a game. Macha loved using 3-5 guys to pitch three innings, Yost used 1 when it was strategically allowable (ie, no pinch hitting necessary)
  22. For the question about RR, the only things I've questioned with him this year are Yo bunting so much AND Loe being used nearly every day. Besides those, his moves seem like typical baseball moves and I'm glad he's not the incompetent Ken Macha. As for the baserunning errors, some of them are strategical mistakes, but most appear player mistakes. We get very bad reads on balls put in play.
  23. Good job Yo. It's always funny that Yo and Sheets were known for their curveballs, but their heaters were their strikeout pitches. Yo gets so many guys looking on the heater that it's odd. He's still getting squeezed according to Gameday. In all of his walks, at least 1 ball should have been called a strike.
  24. interestobserver...yes, baseball has no right to impose slotting or restrict trade, just as its illegal to force players to be slaves for organizations for 6-9 years before free agency, it's against the law for the owners to force minor leaguers to play in spring training without pay, and it's illegal for college players to be ineligible for the draft before 21 years old. Seriously, your statement is ridiculous. Is it illegal for players to demand first class travel, first class hotels without roommates, daily meal money on roadtrips, a $400k salary floor, etc. No! It's called Collective Bargaining, not a restriction of free trade.
  25. TheCrew, I wouldn't be shocked to see Schafer DH for a few days before proving he's healthy enough to have other roster moves and move him higher up. If they're going to release a AA/AAA outfielder, they'd want to be sure he's healthy
