  1. I wonder if Yo cringes every time there's a chopper/grounder to first since he knows he has to cover or risk getting tangled up because of Prince.
  2. brewers19, I'm still waiting for the Brewers to succeed this year waiting for the 3run homer. If we're going to keep weakly grounding out, small ball is our only hope. The good news is that eventually the big homers will come
  3. looking back at splits, Prince hasn't had a decent April since 2007. It wasn't just me remembering being frustrated with him every April
  4. There's also the chance that the Brewers may plan on having one of them eventually get promoted to A+, with a potential placement in the AFL allowing for additional practice and technique work.
  5. If the Brewers do this, I may give up following the team. Having worked around these two, I can say that it's possible that Kemp is now more mature, but I like James Loney about as much as I like Terrell Buckley, Barry Bonds, and....you get the picture. The Hardy/Jones trade would be nice.
  6. Part of the weird logic for me is also that teams in the playoffs don't always have good/great offensive 1b, but they almost always seem to have good/great defensive 1b. Watching the Reds this weekend with very good defensive players at all 4 infield spots, I found myself pissed every time we hit a chopper or grounder because it was nearly a guaranteed out. When the ball is on the ground against us, we always have to hold our breath
  7. I'm curious if anyone else feels that the Brewers might be a better team when Prince is allowed to leave. I think back to when the M's allowed Arod to walk and traded Griffey, and they actually got better. This was also around the time they traded the Big Unit as well. With Prince, he's arguably the worst defense first basemen in recent history. He is still quite prone--in his 7th year--to trying to swing for the fences way too much. Don't get me wrong...I like Prince as a Brewer, but I also get frustrated that he seems a notorious slow starter to go along with the aforementioned issues. This may be a pretty big knee-jerk reaction, but I've quietly pondered the question in my first sentence many times.
  8. Morgan sure looked solid today. He did everything that was asked of him, and he also showed an ability to work the count. At this pace, he'll be getting more and more playing time in CF...unless Go Go learns to keep his linedrives in fair territory.
  9. I definitely would have gone after Beachy. He looked awesome today, he's got great mechanics, and has several pitches.
  10. I'd like for Kotteras to continue as the backup since he has some power and BB potential. Nieves is more important for depth. That helps the catching offense a bit
  11. The Gameday is working fun, it's just obnoxious. I think they created this version for people who are not infront of a TV or near a radio. I tend to use Gameday to accentuate my game experience by having the boxscore and stats immediately available. The new gameday is awful. The old "classic" style is okay, but doesn't switch to other games in the same mode--it always reverts to the new type
  12. I'm sure we have another thread somewhere, but it might be nice to start with a clean slate. What SS are available? I can't wait for AAA games to start so I can begin scouring for possible Shortstops that could have out clauses. And, of course, Farris and Wheeler should get time at SS in AAA, even though Melvin said they're done moving guys around.
  13. It's also important to note that we're in a drought in baseball for slugging 3b. Shortstop has also taken a hit since ARod, Nomar, Renteria, etc have suffered declines or have retired. To be honest, not re-acquiring Hardy this offseason looks like a mistake. I miss his defense and offensive capabilities. I'd love to try to trade for him
  14. logan et al, I'd never heard the phrase until Dodgeball, but since then I've heard it tons. Following the movie it started to appear a lot on Brewerfan and even in the everyday conversation of my students and--occasionally--a peer. My apologies for being so off on it, but it's a phrase that annoys me almost as much as hearing "hella". When I got to college in California, I couldn't believe how annoying it was that West Coast folks used hella hundreds of times in daily language. I'm so glad I don't hear that anymore. Did hella ever make it to Wisconsin? I remember complaining about it to friends on other college campuses across the country, and none of them had ever heard it (this is back in '99)
  15. Given the demands of a young pitching staff, can't it work with 2 catchers? Hopefully things work out and one ends up moving up (or down to Helena) when a spot opens. If Roberts was targeted for Helena but given a surprise placement at Wisconsin, it's probably better developmentally than being stuck in EST for a few months.
  16. gotcha, but it's kind of funny that Prince in his prime is the same defensively as a guy at the end of his career that's had multiple surgeries.
  17. Lintz and Brooks Hall are two others I'm a bit surprised by. Oh well, perhaps I'll get to see them in Helena this summer
  18. Why would Glaus have been a liability? The dude used to be great at 3rd and occasionally played SS in interleague games to create flexibility for the lineup
  19. let's worry about Betancourt, not McGehee. We don't need to upgrade 3b, we need anything at SS
  20. It's annoying that the Brewers don't work the count. Sometimes ambushing the first pitch can be great...but we didn't face a 3-ball count until the 8th inning today! It looks like we're trying to pull the ball for homers every at bat.
