  1. my students are overwhelmingly fans of the Ipad 2. They utilize them for class notes, reading, surfing the web, etc etc. The battery life and thin profile are huge, along with the games library and Itunes music/video stores.
  2. I'm noticing that it doesn't work on some websites (the pulldowns on bank of america's menus don't work). It also seems to load things slowly when trying to book a flight.
  3. There could be bidding from teams like San Fran, both Chicago teams, Baltimore, and I wouldn't rule out the Astros, M's, Cards, or the Yanks/BoSox
  4. I know most of us expect the Brewers cannot compete for Fielder. But doesn't it seem a bit crazy to want a massive contract when there are many better 1st basemen? Who all is better or arguably in his class: Pujols Votto Texeira Gonzalez Howard Morneau (does he still play 1b or DH?) Cabrera etc Kind of crazy to think that Fielder is the third best 1st baseman in the division.
  5. I could go either way....either a $2-5 million stopgap (Furcal, Reyes, Scutaro, Rollins, Hardy, etc) or even promoting Prince from AA if he has a good year...I'll take defense and steals if they come cheaply.
  6. Kentrail Davis's bat wave reminds me of Jeromy Burnitz, the way it's way out of position behind his head until he's ready for the pitch.
  7. I always enjoy watching Sam Narron and his Bugs Bunny changeup--one pitch and three swings and misses!
  8. i thought that when he failed to appear in a big league game this past week, it meant the backdating was automatic
  9. that would be awesome for the Hun. He was one of my favorites to follow
  10. I'll see an occasional scorpion or tarantula out here, but not too many. The bigger threat is the rattlesnakes coming out of dens in the next few weeks. I'll see lots of them on the golf courses
  11. except we don't know if Bush will opt out and be available.
  12. If Bush opts out tomorrow, I'd expect him to be a Brewer minor leaguer on Monday with the wink-wink agreement that he'd be called up to make the starts in April. He could then be a heck of a long man in the pen, who also benefits the team with his ability to pinch hit for pitchers or pinch run. To me, he's an upgrade over Mitre AND might be more necessary to the team than Kintzler right now.
  13. In 2001 Neugy would have been the ace and the first baseman. Shows how far we've come
  14. Sure enough, I was at the game today and counted 5 Yo strikeouts looking. One was a high changeup (something he's been working on, since he's pretty much abandoned it since the knee injury), the other 4 fastballs
  15. On the whole, I would expect improved production at 1b, ss, LF, CF, and Catcher. I also an anticipating a much better rotation and bullpen (can the rotation and pen get any worse than their first 30-40 games last year?)
  16. Going back to his scouting video before the draft, I've always been amazed at how Gallardo tends to strike guys out looking on fastballs. Can anyone give an explanation as to why this is so? I guess I always noticed K's from pitchers--at least going back to Sheets' knack for striking guys out on the high cheese (despite all the attention most gave to his curveball)
  17. Utah St. isn't really an upset since they're the better team. This screams of College of Charleston from when I was in HS in the late 90s. Charleston was ranked about 19th in the country, but had about a 14 seed. When they made the sweet 16, many were left foolish for not looking at season rankings
  18. cheesewhiz, I think he tore his labrum shortly after the trade.
  19. no need to pull hamstrings in spring training. 'it should pick up in the last week of spring
  20. I just worry that Rogers might be rushing back. The good news is that he knows his arm, body, and--especially--shoulder. He seems smart enough to know not to pull something like Neugy
  21. I really don't think this is a big deal. Our other 4 starters are solid-to-good and between Rogers, Rivas, Dillard, Scarpetta (for 2 starts it wouldn't kill us...and he might learn a lot), etc we can grind our way through 2 starts
  22. wasn't it fangraphs that suggested Parra needs a full year in the pen to learn to attack hitters and harness his talent (while gaining confidence), then should be moved back to the rotation in 2012? I thought that made sense because Parra was such a late bloomer that he never fully realized he was a power pitcher, always still utilizing the mentality of a control pitcher.
  23. just to point things out, he did play SS on Friday, I think. And apparently the Brewers (according to Haudricourt) may plan to shift him around on defense
  24. Just curious...anyone else going to Vegas for the first two rounds? I've gotten two offers of "2 complimentary nights" at hotels. Wasn't sure if there were fellow Brewerfan users going there for March Madness or Spring Break
  25. I had a netbook about 2 years ago. After 6 months it was pretty much unusable because it was so slow. I did everything I could to keep the speed up, but it was just pathetic. The MacBook Air 11" is the first compact laptop I've enjoyed, although the reports were the Acer Timeline X was supposed to be pretty close (specs were better, but reviews said Air won in performance)
