  1. I've always kind of envisioned him as a Jay Buhner type. His season is pretty good though. High OBP, high homers. His three year totals at AAA are pretty good as a whole, too. Seeing as our OF has speed, I could see him competing with Gomez for the 5th OF spot. Isn't Katin supposed to be pretty good in RF, especially his arm?
  2. I understand, I just love the Minor league forum and don't want it to be as condescending as the MLB one can be. This is usually about optimism and debate, so let's move on and keep things that way on another note, how excited would we be if Carlos George could walk???
  3. tedaldtada29, why be so impolite? It's a valid question if someone knows an answer. The reality--it would seem--is that he's not comfortable in the OF or at catcher, so the Brewers are at least letting him get in his time at DH. He's come around offensively lately though...so that's good.
  4. Al, for someone who defends Gomez's talent, I would fully expect you to defend Dillard's 94 mph heavy sinker
  5. kramnoj, don't forget the good will to the prospects of rewarding them for a strong season. 1 month in the big leagues would make more money than the rest of the season. They'd also learn what it means to be in the big leagues in low stress situations. I don't care about one month of service time. I care about the salary ramifications, travel ramifications, and psychological ramifications. I'd like Jeffress and Rogers, because I want them to get a taste of the show. Same goes for Rivas. Gamel is a lefty bat that should be rewarded for his season. Why diss him now when we'll need him soon?
  6. actually, Hoffman's been very good for most of the year now. At this point I'd consider bringing him back next year, even if it's just as insurance should Axford struggle.
  7. I fully expect Odorizzi to open in AA, possibly alongside Hethathorn, Peralta, and Scarpetta That would leave Rogers, Rivas, and Fiers in AAA. It'll be nice to have depth!
  8. Nick Shaw's Milb profile says he bats right and throws left....since that can't be, is it actually reversed, or right for both?
  9. NArveson's first season as a starter has been mixed, but there have been plenty of positive signs. I'd keep him around as a long man/5th starter.
  10. one more name...Whatever happened to Periard? Toby and I always used to root for him, but is it still shoulder related?
  11. I'd love to give Capuano some innings in September in a piggy-back fashion. We need to see if he's in our plans as a 4th/5th starter. I assume Dave Bush will move on, but you'd hate to give Cappy away while he's still rebuilding his arm and getting outs cheaply
  12. Two I can't justify as major leaguers both fall short of 3000 PA's, Garlos Gomez and Tsuyoshi Shinjo (who amazingly was a fan favorite!)
  13. I've followed the minors leagues since the late 90's when the Journal Sentinel would give once a week updates on the top statistical minor leaguers. This season has had some huge disappointments, as Stetter has had a rough go of it (after seemingly having no chance of seeing the minors), Anundsen has barely toed the rubber, Chad Robinson still isn't dominating, Cody Adams and Seth Lintz are still toiling, and Eric Arnett has been a huge flop. However, have we ever had this many breakout years in one season? When you factor in the guys who aren't breaking out, but simply continuing their progression (like Rivas), this has to be a huge success. Next year our AAA and AA teams will begin being flooded with talent, especially on the mound. Our A ball teams are all ready full of exciting pitchers, while Wisconsin in particular has a fun lineup to follow. It's been a real treat following the link report, as it seems each day we've had 2-3 potential big leaguers on the hill. Throw in the hugely successful seasons for guys with previous question marks (Peralta, Rogers, Komatsu, Fiers, Lamontagne, and even Frederickson of late), and it's been fun. This year, which guys have you started following that have captivated you more than in years past?
  14. as a 25th man, we could do a lot worse than Owings. He's a lot more useful than Gomez
  15. A signing team would control his rights as they would a draftee. So it's not a typical free agent. Could be a good signing for '11 and beyond, as in '11 he likely wouldn't pitch, but by '12 he'd be in A-ball with potential as a quick riser
  16. I'd want Gwynn easily as the 25th man, since he can walk. To be honest, I'd love to have both, with both playing EACH DAY....Gwynn in AAA, Gomez in AA
  17. He has a nice sinker. At the very least, I see him as a long man in the pen. Potentially, given his minor league stats, he could wind up a #4 starter
  18. It's too bad that MLB stepped in with the pitcher the Dbacks took, but they didn't step in here. MLB could have reached some sort of compromise deal to give more time to do the necessary work to determine if he could handle the minors
  19. The AZ schedule doesn't include Tucson, I don't think. But SD is 6 hours drive from Phoenix, 1+ hr flight. It's not THAT close. I support the decision, as it gives him three years to learn routines before he has to think about pro-ball.
  20. Colby, I don't get the numbers' poor reflection of McGehee. He has well below average range, but everything that he gets to is an out. Plus he throws to 2nd as well as any 3b we've had not named Cirillo. I wonder if his poor defensive metrics are a result of our pitching staff in some way.
  21. X, I like the Fredi Gonzalez idea. I'm tired of MAcha saying "well, I don't hit for them". I want someone who will raise expectations
  22. I'd love a Counsell/Loretta type. I wonder how Cirillo would do? I've always love Kevin Kennedy's insight on XM radio, plus he can handle and terrorists that try to take over the team plane.
  23. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Gomez shows that he can't hit AAA pitching or reach base. The guy needs a Roy Halladay-like wakeup call by going to A-ball
