  1. stealing can impact the low scoring games in a positive way. The Angels are a team that can hit a few homers, but day-in-and-day-out they beat teams by nickle and diming them to death
  2. okay, just curious, but have any computer companies taken the idea of a netbook and given it a legit processor? That is, small but capable for around $500 rather than small but underpowered for $300?
  3. just curious, but how did the M's manage to improve after trading Griffey? How did they improve after losing A-Rod? I support keeping Fielder and letting him walk, but there is precedent for losing a good hitter and improving
  4. isn't Provus an employee of WTMJ?
  5. RockCo...depends on whom you ask, but everyone sees those flaws with managers. I felt Macha was the biggest bumbling idiot with lineup creation, in-game decisions (or lack thereof) and pitching moves.
  6. The captiva is not made anymore, so I can't find anything about it. Again, I like the size of a mid-to-large SUV for the perception of safety. I like the tri-zone climate controls. I like the cargo space (for dogs). I also am an avid golfer that tends to keep my gear in the back. I'm just trying to figure out if the Yukon/Tahoe is still right for my needs. I don't have big family needs (yet), and I can afford my gas. But part of me says it would be nice to downsize a bit.
  7. Hey all, I've driven two consecutive Yukons now after driving an old Bravada before them. I love an SUV for a number of reasons...it's ridiculously easy to get in/out of, great visibility, good in poor driving conditions, I feel very safe in it despite living in Arizona where the drivers are horrible, etc. I currently don't have needs for such a large car, but I do love them. The mileage is weak at around 17 mpg. I've thought about downsizing to something like the Highlander, Terrain, Equinox, etc. The problems I run into are kind of tricky. For one thing, I have two dogs that do well in the way back (cargo area) when there's a rear zone A/C (given 110-120 degree heat in the summer/fall). When my family visits often, it's nice to have a vehicle that can easily fit 5 people. I like the size so I feel safe. I like the features such as the Sirius XM radio, the nav-traffic, and Onstar. The drawbacks...I hate the 3rd row in the Yukon. In the 8 years I've driven them, I've used the third row once. Initially the Denalis had the brilliant idea of pushing the 2nd row back a foot (max legroom) and not having a 3rd row. But the Yukon 3rd row means that the 2nd row has less space than I would like. I'd also like to push into the 20s for mpg. One idea is the Yukon hybrid, as its basic model is the same as the fully loaded yukon (for just a small amount more). It also comes with a $2200 tax credit in 2010. It would get around 21-22 mpg. Having said all of that, is there another SUV that I should be looking at?
  8. Just thought I felt ignorant when I had to google WRX to find out what it was. Looks like a street-racer type made by Subaru. Never knew people that used snow tires, so I'm curious to hear if they do help
  9. MAcha was throwing Gamel and others under the bus repeatedly this year. It's his style...he's honest to reporters, just to a fault
  10. blues brothers animal house airplane! Stripes Major League (not the second one) Armageddon Independence Day Pulp Fiction
  11. I got to 160, but I totally forgot about Tyler Houston, Jeffrey Hammonds, Knutson, EY, Mays, etc. I couldn't remember the name Dave Parker for the life of me.
  12. I also still am amused by the "too many lefties" argument. If a guy can pitch, then he can pitch. Yes, our division has Pujols and Holliday, but it also has Votto.
  13. I think Capuano needs to be offered a 1 year deal with an option. He's better--when healthy--than most of the available free agent pitchers AND he enjoys the Brewers. We've heard Melvin repeatedly mention that most players don't want to come to Milwaukee and have the Brewers in their no trade clauses, so I'm sure it's the same lack of interest most free agents have as well.
  14. Not to get completely off topic, but it seems that allowing students to listen to ipods during tests could open up various possibilities for cheating. Yes and no. Really, we want them to study, and I never found a student actually take the time to record an entire semester's worth of information, neatly organized, on an ipod. If I did, I probably would have given them a high five for actually studying like the average kid did a mere 10 years ago. Actually, beyond the ipod texting/AIMing issue, another problem is that smart phones often double as mp3 players now, so that also eliminates the ability to use them. I'll only let a kid pull out their mp3 player if it's old-school, with no communication capabilities. And it needs to remain visible at all times. If I see hands in laps, I assume they're cheating and take the test from them. The last major issue is that now kids can take photos of a test and email it to others in later periods. I haven't seen it done yet, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Back to the point...Adam, good luck with things. This person needs to be caught and dealt with. Someone brought up race, and while I thought about that, I have to say that I generally use skin-color as a descriptor. Stereotyping can be bad, but simply describing people's features is not really an issue. Although to be honest, in this example I think we would have all expected the student to be African-American or Hispanic, given the much higher rates of poverty among those ethnicities in the Milwaukee area. It's a poverty issue that happens to correlate with ethnicies.
  15. The texting software has made it so that teachers can't let students use ipods, unless for educational purposes. Initially with mp3 players and huge class sizes, it made sense to let kids listen to their ipods to drown out noise during a test. But once texting/IM software came along on the ipod touches several years ago, it killed the whole concept of helping them ignore others
  16. Cappy as a 3 or 4-man for 1 year at $5 million, with a series of team options. As for the last starter, I say we get whoever we can, and just go for it all with our offense next year. If Weeks, Hart, and McGehee continue this season's successes, and Braun and Fielder have bounceback years, we're golden!
  17. I always liked how when Yost used his long men, he liked to get 2-4 innings out of them. So it's sort of in the same mold. Not sure though if anyone has tried it in the majors
  18. Invader, in fairness I believe the rumors with Molitor were still about addiction just a few years ago, although the rumor I'd heard was I think maybe a sex addiction. I could be wrong though. But yes, you're right, for now we should think positively about Jeffress, not focus on his past
  19. The concern with hard throwers that lack control is that they might benefit from time in the bullpen where they learn how to attack hitters. Think of Adam Wainwright and how the bullpen helped transform him
  20. The one here in Cave Creek is The Buffalo Chip. It will be featured in a future movie as well, as they finished shooting in Cave Creek a couple months ago. Not sure how good it will be
  21. I've always wanted to load a minor league team up with guys like Mike Jones, Mark Prior, Nick Neugebauer, JM Gold, Mark Mulder, etc etc. They'd all have similar stories and experiences to talk about, while hopefully 1 or 2 develop into big leaguers.
  22. I can't see how that's whining. Gamel wants to play 3b. I think the best solution is Hart to 1b (think of all his nagging injuries this year) and stick Gamel in RF. The other solution is something like sign Branyan/Overbay types (cheap, lefty 1b that outproduces their salary), Gamel at 3b, Hart in RF, and McGehee for a solid #2 or 3 starter
  23. In years past we've seen Richardson, Krynzel, Festa, etc etc etc (I can't remember the rest of the OBP boys) dominate Helena and struggle beyond it
  24. if they like him, they can assign him to Wisconsin and he'd serve the suspension ASAP
  25. just thought I'd bump this because Tom Haudricourt mentioned sports hernia. I understand there may be differences, but in players I've seen with the so called sports hernia, there's often difficulty diagnosing it as the problems appear different than most hernias.
