  1. I like Kotteras being lefty, liking walks, and having power. But he does need to learn to catch the ball
  2. As someone else said, a netbook might be a better option....only if they are now competent. I know Acer was producing a netbook size with actually good specs, but I have yet to hear others jump on the bandwagon. Having 2 tabs in Firefox bring your computer to a crawl is really the trademark of netbooks.
  3. I have yet to hear of a benefit that the Xoom has over the Ipad 2. Ipad 2 has better battery life, easier to transport (smaller profile), and so many more apps. Eventually Android may catch up, but for now the consensus is that the Ipad is the better product.
  4. Just curious, but are there many better 3b? Central has Rolen (injury risk), Ramirez (injury risk), Alvarez (not as good as McGehee, but might change soon), Cards????, Astros??? What 3b are clearly better values (meaning Beltre doesn't count)...ARod, Longoria, Zimmerman (not sure), etc. McGehee might rank in the top 1/3rd of third basemen, and might be among the top 3 or 4 values at the position.
  5. I could see going year-to-year these 4 seasons costing the Brewers in the neighborhood of $15-17 million (.5-.7, 3-3.5, 5.5, 7.5). So a 3 years and $10 million seems fine.
  6. I've been to the GMO a few times, and about 3 years ago I made it to the US Open at Torrey Pines. We avoided Tiger and Phil, and had a blast with the sparse crowds. I'd estimate that 70% were following those two. Oh, and wear comfy shoes!
  7. Milwaukee not a soccer town???? Milwaukee has long produced top talent in soccer. Throw in that for the last 15 years, both Marquette High and Brookfield East have regularly made appearances in the top 25 nationally, with MUHS in particular doing quite well against out-of-state nationally ranked talent. The old Milwaukee Kickers soccer club was the model for many other communities in the nation. Throw in the influence of club teams like the Croatians, Bavarians, etc, and it just adds to the overall soccer climate. I am by no means a big soccer fan, but I thought that this was common knowledge in Milwaukee.
  8. I can't see an MLS or NHL team in Milwaukee. Southeastern Wisconsin has virtually no hockey tradition compared with the rest of the midwest. The Admirals have probably maxed out the market's capability's for hockey, especially since decent NHL tickets run well north of $100. MLS would at least have Wisconsin's very strong soccer tradition interested.
  9. too bad he missed out on ben sheets...they could be a fun and quirky duo
  10. if anyone is at a minor league spring training game, it would be nice if they could confirm if Shawn Zarraga is now a switch hitter. We've seen no mention of him as a switch hitter from scouting reports, but last year an "insider" on this site defended him by saying that he was now batting both ways.
  11. Mike gave it a good run. I always enjoyed following his name in boxscores, in prospect handbooks, and finally in internet articles about his perseverance. I hope that once his son is old enough for school, Mike will give the Brewers a call about a position. I could see him either opening up as a pitching coach (since he always had a good feel for pitching) or even as a rehab coach--someone who helps push guys through their rehab.
  12. I thought most NHL teams were always teetering on the verge of bankruptcy. Tickets are far too expensive for the sport. Baseball is the only reasonably priced American spectator sport...so it has no economic problems. I wish players would realize that by taking a massive salary (far more than they could ever need...like $20 million/season) they are hurting their teams chances of being competitive.
  13. i hear ya pitchleague. We avoided a furlough this year, but the 2.62% cut last year was painful. But this is my 4th year, I don't automatically move up in pay every year since there is no generous salary schedule like in other states. In AZ we are the biggest contributors to our own Retirement System. We do not get automatic 3-4% raises in base salary every year like in Wisconsin...in fact my pay has never kept up with inflation because of the hard economic times. Some Wisconsin teachers seem to think education is a recession-proof profession. In most states there are huge classes, paycuts, and all sorts of problems that are a result of the economies and short-sighted planning by government officials. They don't need to have as much reform as we have. In fact, I hope they preserve many of their rights. But I can't fathom the selfishness needed to fake a sick day for personal reasons when I know it will close school. I hope they start to realize that they are looking like fools.
  14. I know this gets political, but I hate that Wisconsin teachers are being so selfish. I'm a cheesehead (displaced in AZ) and a teacher, and they don't realize that they have rights that few in the nation have. All the teachers at my school today were laughing and shaking their heads at what is going on in Wisconsin.
  15. work ethic, run ins with the law, and ego could keep him from reaching the Hall. He's a player that quit on several teams...can't like that
  16. Invader, I thought that as well. We know he liked his time in Milwaukee. We also know that if Prince leaves, we could have a chunk of money to spend. Of course, Prince's salary is probably offset by raises to others next year (Braun, Weeks, Gallardo, etc). Still, to get a Sabathia would be unbelievable and almost deserves a budget outside of the usual $80-95 million. Could you imagine several years of Sabathia, Greinke, and Gallardo atop the rotation!!??!!
  17. I think most disappointing is Fielder. I think breakout are Braun and Weeks, who finally have the monster years they've shown glimpses of. I think McGehee and Hart will be solid as always. I can't call Gomez a disappointment, because my expectations are so low.
  18. thanks for the fun trip down memory lane. Was Rushford before Melvin?
  19. I thought Rick Peterson was a big fan of long toss as well
  20. There were also reports that--that the organization denied--that Lawrie was benched several times for not hustling.
  21. Portland's AAA ballpark was built intentionally in phases, with the ability to complete phases 2 and 3 if an MLB team were ever to move there. I still think by 2020 we'll see 32 teams giving us 16 in each league in 4 divisions per league
  22. I'll always remember the first Packer game after 9/11, country star/vocalist Martina McBride sang the anthem in a way that made me cry. Simple, yet beautifully done from one of the best voices in the music world.
  23. Stevo, that's not what Sheets always said. He frequently said that it's all about what you have done, not what you will do. At the same time, I agree. Although we can't tell with certainty what will happen.
  24. Rosiak used to do preps (he and Lori Nickel were good in that role) and has done a great job with MU for a few years. He's a classy writer/reporter in that he never talks down to readers and tries to pique their curiosity.
  25. If it's going to be much over $10 million per season, I would instead attempt to allocate the money to Marcum and Greinke extensions. I'd like to try to build this team through pitching, and I'm comfortable with Taylor Green, Eric Farris, Josh Prince, or any of the other available inexpensive free agents available for 2b.
