  1. this is the same Helena club that last year had a shortage of OF. Remember Romanski DHing?
  2. Yo's handling, Macha's near allergy to bunting (except yesterday) and stealing, and his desire to find time for Hall at the expense of Gamel are three of the major reasons I am upset with Macha and view Yost as a better manager.
  3. Fontenot is one of the Cubs I fear. He, Theriot, and Fukudome seem to kill us more than their stars.
  4. I've always liked Davies' stuff, and Bannister always seems to get the job done. I wouldn't touch Pavano
  5. I love winning games 1 and 2, as game three can be lost while still claiming a series win. Remember, if a team won 2 of every 3, they'd have 108 wins on the year
  6. We all assumed Jenkins was on roids for years. No mention of Vina?
  7. Last year in the playoffs we saw Counsell make an outstanding play to catch a ball that deflected off a cable. I can't recall that ever happening before or since. Has it happened more, or am I right on with that?
  8. BrewPackBuck, I agree. The AZ team is possibly going to surpass their win totals for '08 and '07 combined...by August 1st!
  9. Al, Counsell has been outstanding, but there's the fear that he's going to wear himself out. Gamel's increased production (hitting well lately, .350 OBP!) is reason to play at least 4-5 times per week. But Macha is finding any excuse possible to stick Hall in there.
  10. wallus, most smart investors would tell you that this is a pretty darn good time to invest. I've spoken with lots of folks that have money and are shifting more and more of their assets into the market because they are perceiving it as a value. Heck, my IRA in late October was half of what it was in March '08. However, it has nearly rebounded back to previous levels thanks to the surge in the last 4 months.
  11. I don't really get this. Right now the Brewers are best off with Gamel at 3rd, McGehee at 2b, and Counsell starting 3 times per week between 2nd, 3rd, and SS. Yet everytime Gamel has a good game or two (like two walks batting leadoff the other day), he rides the pine for a few days in favor of Hall. Macha's managing of Gamel has me yearning for the days of Yost.
  12. Geez, that's interesting. Everywhere I go there are tons of jobs available, just they usually are a step or two below the standards of their previous jobs or pay levels. I didn't realize small towns were lacking in even low-paying jobs.
  13. Didn't Chris Morris have great SB totals but terrible OBP's?
  14. To be honest, of the three major deaths this week, he's the one I'll miss the most. I'm too young to know Farrah Faucet, and I was about 12 or 13 when we first discovered Jackson liked boys my age. I will miss this guy though as he was great at his niche and it was funny having him doing ESPN sideline work.
  15. Pascual with 9 K's in 3.1 IP! Best of all, no walks! Here's hoping he has a few more big outings to build on.
  16. great to see MiLB with some guts here. I've seen drugs destroy far too many lives and it's a painful topic for me. It's terribly addictive for people with tendencies towards addiction. I can't remember exact numbers from presentations I've seen, but isn't it now around 2000% more potent than in the 1970s? Modern science has produced addictive weed. Some people only smoke up when they want to. Some (like me) only drink once in a while. I've never had an urge where I've felt "I need a drink." Yet I've seen people that truly need alcohol. But the reality is that many people are addicted to it and denying it is foolish. Sure, many others are not addicted to it. Jeffress needs our support, but at this point I am shaking my head at him and declaring him a huge screw-up. If I were the Brewers, I would look into seeing if they can recoup part of his signing bonus because he has clearly been in breach of contract.
  17. also, while we're with AT&T, any unlocked phone would be fine since he doesn't use the service-specific software.
  18. Hey all, my dad has a cellphone that he keeps around for emergencies only. He says that if he had an easy one to use, he would. What are the easiest to use, turn on/off, etc that are out there? He's 68 and--while a computer user--struggles to use the small screens and buttons on cell phones.
  19. my fear with trading Hart is that it could be like Cleveland trading Sexson when they did. They give up a young promising hitter (that hadn't broken through) and acquired some pitching.
  20. DougHenrySux...I'm with ya. I can't stand Sprinsteen. I cringe when I hear his voice. I also agree with the Cotton eyed Joe. How did that become a cool song?
  21. ah, good to see. I enjoyed following his career and hoped he'd get a callup
  22. I'm assuming that is Derek Lee. What ever happened to him?
  23. Gamel is doing fine. Now that he's playing every day he should remain the starter.
  24. Never heard those terms for it. When I was in HS, that (although with crossed hands) was just used to symbolize "suck it"
  25. wow, just realized Katin's pace is for roughly 35-40 homers and 200 K's in AAA! Those are a bit scary. If he walked more, he'd be the studliest 3TO around
