  1. JohnBriggs, one benefit is that it'd sure be nice to have someone that a) has velocity, and b) has a good groundball ratio. Given his history, he's the kind of guy that could be perfect as a long man in the pen (and perhaps back of the rotation if he proves himself)
  2. So I was perusing some things after his nice start today and looked at his numbers. In Brevard County he had a GO/FO of 1.69. In AA that has risen to 2.13. Additionally, he has allowed 63 hits and 28 runs in 55 IP in AA. But in the last three outings before he went on the DL with the gastrointestinal problem, he allowed 21 hits and 14 ER in 12 IP. Subtracting those numbers (not always fair), here's his Huntsville line: 43 IP 42 H 14 ER 7 BB 30 K 2.93 ERA He's pitched 6+ innings in 6 of the 7 outings (that is, substracting those three potentially sick outings). He's also been keeping his pitch counts rather low (80-90 for 6-7 IP). I wonder if the Brewers will promote him to AAA soon to see how he does against the higher competition as an audition for a potential 40-man roster spot in the offseason
  3. I've loved Harang since his Oakland days. He may be down a bit now, but he's a workhorse and will likely be a bounceback candidate for next year
  4. Washburn would provide more depth for the Brewers, especially if we tried to extend him (say 2 yrs $14 million, 3 years $20 million). We need guys that can go 6-7 innings, and that's what he is.
  5. It sure would be nice to add Washburn for a few years at a reasonable salary. Say $7 million a year
  6. Gamel's 2 notches better as a prospect than Gillespie. The other issue is that Davis's agent told him that the Dbacks are trying to extend him, not trade him.
  7. jjhardy7 and nate82, we like Rickie in CF because that was his college position. I believe he was moved to 2b as a college junior to increase his draft stock and fill a team need.
  8. Invader, I've wondered if maybe the Brewers should give Villy an offer. Pitch in long relief in the big leagues, pitch in the bullpen in AAA, pitch in the rotation in AAA. In the meantime, I'd call up Axford or Wooten to try to stabilize late inning relief
  9. agreed blingster, nice to tack on some runs for once. With Seth out (it's a mixed blessing, he's an awful pitcher but I hope it's not serious), they really should consider sending Burns down and promoting Axford or Wooten to setup down the stretch. Villy should be the long man (and nothing more) until he stops giving up runs each time out
  10. This abuse of Parra and Gallardo is the #1 reason I am so anti-Macha. Yo is 23 and missed last season. His limit should be 100 except on occasion. Throwing 100+ pitches 85% of the time is a bit much, especially with him throwing 110+ in 40% of his games. Yo's fastball command has been off for a while now, but I doubt it's going to get better when he's on the DL with a dead arm.
  11. Just looked. Yo has 20 starts. 9 with 100-109 pitches, 8 with 110+ pitches. I'm really convinced Macha's doing his best to turn Yo into the new Cal Elred.
  12. Macha won't be here in August '10, so he doesn't care that Yo'll be on the DL then and in all of '11.
  13. Yo with 77 pitches so far and we're in the 5th. If Macha has Yo throw over 110 pitches again, I will be at zero-faith in him. I was so impressed with the hiring and thought things would be great, but I have been more and more disappointed as the season has gone on.
  14. Milwaukee has some of the nation's highest rates of Swine Flu and we have yet to hear of a Brewer with it. I would assume this is rather isolated, but we'll see.
  15. Perhaps we should do the Yost approach and play our backups on day games. It seemed to work more. Of course, I'm still convinced Macha has us roughly 5 games behind where Yost would have. I'm wondering if we'll can Macha soon and put Randolph or Sveum in charge.
  16. I think you can get park hopper passes between the Zoo, SeaWorld, and the Wild Kingdom for cheaper than paying for them separate.
  17. X, Jackson has been the key to my fantasy baseball success this year. After seeing him throwing 99 mph down the stretch last year, I was convinced he'd be a starter this year since his arm had finally fully rebounded. He, Branyan, and Bedard have helped me go from terrible to solid--not bad considering they were my late round pick sleepers
  18. Menotti80, I'm with ya on kids. My ex had a 5-year old (well, she still does, only he's 7 now). He would often try to mess with his family's cat or jump over it. If he jumped over it and the cat reacted by lifting it's head, he'd almost crush the thing. I'm no cat fan, but he had zero comprehension of his size vs its size
  19. GoMocs, thanks for all the insight. You caused my heart to beat a bit slower with the news of Braddock's arm feeling okay
  20. Invader, why would the Brewers have to dump salary? Attendance has seen a huge spike, Dunn is only owed roughly $3-4 million this year (Hart owed roughly 1 million)...not a big difference. I would think that we could get Dunn for Hart, and they'd probably throw in cash. At the same time, Hart is heating up and if he finishes the year at .280 with 20 homers, that'd be a promising rebound entering next year
  21. My issue with Macha is a number of things. I feel as though there are always games that a team should win, but loses. And games a team should lose, but wins. Under Yost the last few years we had an uncanny ability to snatch lots of wins from opponents while handing away a few games. This year we've seen several things that Yost wouldn't have done that possibly cost us. Some that come to mind: -The three games in May/June when Macha had a runner on 1st with no outs late in the game. Instead of bunting the runner to scoring position, he allowed hitters to swing away, and each time it seemed the result was a double play. -Macha's bullpen usage. For instance, before the break he had Villanueva enter the game lacking confidence. He pitched a shutout inning, and the Brewers added to their lead. Instead of letting Villy finish the game for a 3 inning save (something Yost used to love to do to save the bullpen), Macha brought in a series of relievers. I know that's being picky, but I felt that Yost was a better than average manager. I was excited by the Macha hiring, but he's really been unimpressive thus far. I thought he'd stray from Yost's desire to have Kendall catch 140+ games, but the reality is that Macha's doing virtually the same thing. I don't think Rivera is anything more than a backup, but I think Kendall could produce more if given more days of rest.
  22. AZ isn't bad guys. I'd rather play in 110 than in 85 with humidity. During my summers as a teacher, you'll find me outside quite a bit. The only difference is that in FLA, you wear your sweat, whereas in AZ it evaporates and you don't realize how much water you've lost until your dehydrated. Plus at night time (the recent games) it's only around 95-100 at night. That sounds like a lot, but when there's no humidity in the air and no sun beating on you, it's extremely comfortable. It's hilarious, because people love to mock the dry heat. I'd say 110 is comparable to 85 degrees when humidity is present. I remember dying in summer golf tournaments in Wisconsin, yet I can walk a round of golf with minimal discomfort in AZ this time of year. The other day someone I knew got out of a pool in AZ and complained about it freezing outside. The pool was 88 degrees and the air was 99. She was freezing because the lack of humidity in the air and the slight breeze that constantly blows during monsoon season in AZ.
  23. I have no problem with Melvin. My issue is with Macha's ineptitude. It makes me yearn for the days of Garner or Yost. I see 0% chance of Macha being extended for a 3rd season
  24. My issue with the Brewers moving to Florida is that a) their owner lives nearer AZ, and b) Wisconsin people retire to AZ, not Florida. I swear every 10th person in Arizona is from the Midwest, whereas Florida is driven by New England retirees.
  25. Dillard's pitch count was crazy...65 pitches for 8 innings!
