  1. Must be a few greenies still lying around clubhouses. Well, maybe he can use the time to improve whatever was causing him to have issues. He should be available for lesser AFL (former Hawaiian league)
  2. They could send both. My first year in the AFL we had 4 catchers, including 2 from the A's. We had Jeremy Brown, John Baker, Carlos Ruiz, and Mike Napoli. Not bad, since all 4 made the big leagues with three as regulars. Napoli was the weakest defender and usually wound up playing DH/1b.
  3. nice outing for Mike Jones, only using 86 pitches to go 7 IP
  4. That's interesting, as we'd lose Hardy, gain two solid-to-good lefties, and in the offseason we'd hopefully keep 1 pitcher, but possibly be getting 3-4 draft picks in return
  5. Daytime TV on the Discovery Times, History, or History International stations are a huge soft spot. I'm a teacher and I get by on that during the summers. Besides that, I still cry during some movies I've seen 100 times. and Hearing my niece say my name makes me melt. Oh yeah, (and don't make me seem like a criminal for this), but I love it when I see my female students breaking a sweat, being competitive in sports, or showing up to a school dance with no makeup in regular fitting jeans and a shirt. It makes me think "now that's what makes her cool!" Oh yeah, and getting sappy thankyou cards/gifts from students at the end of the year. It's always kind of sad when a few meaningful boys or girls come up to give me a handshake or hug (respectively) on the last day.
  6. I simply go to a barber. I have a mom and pop barbershop here in AZ. They do the straight razor, cut it how you want, and give you the scalp/shoulder massage. I wouldn't go to a national chain unless I knew the barber. But all over the country are the mom and pop type places.
  7. Cruz evolved as he improved his judgement at the plate. He also needed several seasons in the high minors to become a top prospect. Katin has time to evolve into the player Cruz has become. Give him til age 28, and he may be capable of the same numbers. I've always thought of him as a Rob Deer or Jay Buhner type. Until he improves, he likely won't get a chance. At the same time, he needs to look no farther than Cruz or Fielder to see how being selective can improve all numbers across the board.
  8. nice...another SCU alum. I'll see if my sources in the athletic dept remember anything of this guy. At the time of the '08 draft, I was told that Willinsky was seen as a terrible fireballer. Many of the spectators there wondered how he could have gotten drafted, despite his good arm.
  9. hair stylist? Wasn't there a "living the high life" rant about men seeing hair stylists and not barbers? Seriously though, I have no clue where to go. I enjoyed Steve's in Elm Grove (and still do when need a trimming in Wisconsin). But you'd have to ask a female friend if they know of a stylist that does a good job with men's hair.
  10. Escobar has more value than Homer Bailey or guys like Phil Hughes.
  11. I'd pay to see this: Branyan Cust Dunn Fielder Howard Pujols Not sure who else. And I agree with Michael Hunt that there needs to be a shot clock of sorts.
  12. JohnBriggs12, I'm with you. I like that Mercedes is now--at least it seems--closing. But Anundsen needs to hit AA soon. Get him 1+ month there before he gets the offseason off, then he returns to AA in 2010, hopefully with that re-discovered velocity
  13. coaching girls golf at a high school, golfing, watching tv!, enjoying movies
  14. Logan, Ned is already being paid for this year. If he were to sign with the Nationals, then I believe it would be like with a player. The Brewers would be able to subtract what the Nats are paying him from their checks to Ned. In the end, he'd make the same money
  15. Too bad Ned isn't still under contract for the Crew. I consider his strategies vastly superior to Macha's at this point in time. I liked the fiery manager.
  16. did ya encourage folks to hang at my coffee shop (Rochambo) when they were done? Just kidding, and congrats Brian. I hope it was fun.
  17. Unless you have some weird league where you must continue on if you initially commit to a bag (like in girls softball with the pitcher's circle), there is no basis where the guy should be called out.
  18. so is it in rain delay or something, cause it's showing last year's game
  19. I didn't realize Bucci was still only 18 (for another week). Great outing for the kid.
  20. I was at the game (my first of the year! Today will be game 2, but I'll be at the Brew Crew games when they come to AZ, too). From the first inning on, Parra was different. He threw nothing but fastballs early on. He also kept his front side from flying open, yielding to few pitches that Rivera had to jump to catch (earlier in the year they were a regular occurance). Additionally, he stopped bringing his hands over his head in his delivery. All in all, I enjoyed seeing him follow through on his pledge to the Nashville paper that he was going to AAA to return to using his fastball to become a power pitcher.
  21. X, AZ didn't dump him. They used him as a huge tool to acquire Haren
  22. I'd happily take Eveland over Narveson as the second lefty right now. He could be one of those pitchers that needs to find some success in a new role in the Big leagues before returning to starting (like Wainwright)
  23. Blindcheck, what do you mean? Edwin Jackson was among the game's top prospects, throwing 98 mph. He had shoulder issues and came back. By last post-season w/the Rays he was hitting 98 again. At that point, many of us had him pegged as a breakout player for '09. I think Maholm has never thrown anywhere near that hard or been that highly rated
  24. Ender, my issue is that Gamel is playing 1-2 days per week. When he gets to pinch hit, he's been drawing walks. Even with his low batting average, his OBP has been nice. What baffles me is this: 1) Counsell has a bad knee and needs rest 2) McGehee has a bad knee and needs rest 3) McGehee has been making a few bad throws and errors lately (luckily Prince is having a career year on defense) 4) Hall can't hit .200 At this point, Gamel needs to be playing 3-4 times per week. If he's not going to play that much, they need to replace him with Iribarren. The Hurricane played some 3b earlier this year and is a lesser prospect, so riding the bench won't be so upsetting.
  25. fondy showing a lot of sarcasm there. Remember, all our major pitching prospects are coming off of injury/surgery (Rogers, Braddock, Periard, etc)
