  1. Perhaps some team out there is in need of a strong message board, and the hold up is they're trying to get Brian or Colby included in the deal
  2. He'd be like Sandoval in San Fran! Big Boy there
  3. battlekow, we don't know that they view him as a starter. What we know is that in spring training he went to them requesting a move to the rotation and they liked the idea. They may like him more as a reliever, but are pleased with him starting to provide short-term depth. Plus, he's always been so efficient (low pitch counts) that he's never really developed secondary pitches.
  4. I'm a fan of Leiny (leinenkugels) of Vladdy (Vladimir Guerrero)
  5. pretendastronaut, you defend Hardy by saying he's had one good month. Hall had a good April and Hart was arguably out best player in April. The reality is that all 3 have underachieved, especially Hardy and Hart
  6. Wasn't there a stud lefty we liked that went to ASU or some other nice school...something like Bowman? I think it would have been 2 or 3 years ago
  7. I don't really feel like Ramirez, Soriano, or Lee kill the Brewers. Yes they do well, but I feel like Fontenot, Theriot, and Fukudome have been much harsher to the Brewers recently.
  8. Heckathorn is a name I've heard rumored on here plenty. I seem to recall reading encouraging things. I wonder why the mlb tracker stopped about 20 mins ago
  9. I don't recall seeing Davis' name mentioned around here. Can't wait to read the thoughts
  10. starts at 3 pm here in AZ...darn. My class goes til 4:30. I guess I'll be recording it. First time I've missed the draft live since about 2000.
  11. Smith should have entered and not Coffey. Early innings, thus saving Coffey. But that's just yet another questionable move by Macha. Hopefully he gets into a game, but it seems doubtful
  12. Stupid public schools. I teach in a public school district in Arizona, and I see the same idiocy out here. The Private schools cannot exist without donations, the private sector's support, and charging full tuition. They understand that the revenue pie can always increase in order to fix funding shortfalls. Yet public schools--including my district and the Wisconsin schools--are viewing the revenue pie as limited, and deciding to cut rather than seek to increase the pie. In my district, they have virtually no system in place for adding donations. Yet private schools live off of that in order to subsidize their education costs. In effect, public schools are like many (not all) welfare recipients. They complain when money isn't there, but don't do much to increase their own opportunities. Okay, there's my rant, given my 6.2% paycut this year
  13. jvrocksaz, for all the times people have complained that we need to keep our innings down for top prospects, perhaps BC is the solution. Send them there for an entire season, and they get 2/3rds of the innings they'd get in AA or A
  14. So far I'm being carried in a wost-to-first league by some big-time sleepers. I kept Gallardo (one of 4 keepers) and Markakis, but I made shrewd picks with Hoffman, Branyan, Bedard, Mark Reynolds, Carl Crawford, Joe Saunders, Edwin Jackson, and Mark Buehrle. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but it's been fun to actually win for once
  15. It should be Russell, Dunn, Cust, Fielder, Howard, etc in the Derby anyways. It shouldn't matter if you're an allstar or not.
  16. I'm not sure I get the whole SAT questions. About 5 years ago the NCAA changed the rules so that all you needed to be elligible at a D1 school was to put your name on the test. I think at the time the new minimum was 800, but now it's on a 2400 scale. It was a change meant to keep athletes from going pro right away.
  17. Colby, will you have sort of 1st day draft recap? Surprise picks? strongest selections? best still available? I think that'd be a fun feature at brewerfan. Perhaps even breaking down the best fastballs available, best HS RHP, etc. With the 2 day format, this has been hard. But it'd be possible for you to list the top options after the 1st 4 rounds
  18. I agree with what X ellence has been saying. I've long felt the Brewers will shoot for hitters this year. Of the 3 1st/Supp picks, I'd expect 2 hitters and a high school pitcher. In the second round, I see HS OF and Pitcher as being chosen. I realize it's foolish to pick based on position, but I'm not expecting a first round college pitcher. After round 1, the Brewers generally avoid college pitching, instead taking HS arms.
  19. okay, how about during tomorrow's game we get a table going?
  20. Great read folks. I remember following Coolbaugh in the minors and thinking, "this kid (ironic since I'm 28) can really help some team." When he died, I'm pretty sure all of us at brewerfan felt awful, seeing as we'd followed him on a daily basis for some time and enjoyed what he could do on the field. I'm just curious, did the Coolbaugh ladies mention anything about Brewerfan.net (or was it .com back then?)? Best of luck to the family. I'm 28 and single, and can't imagine how hard it is to go through daily life with 3 kids and no spouse (and not by choice). It sounds like they have lots of support, though.
  21. Someone should tell Adam Mcalvy that the leagues no longer alternate picks.
  22. I've considered that maybe the Brewers should let guys relieve until age 21 in 1-3 inning stints. Then around age 21 let them become 5 inning starters. Finally at age 23 or 24 turning them loose to rack up some innings. My thought is that some kids should focus on basic fastball command and confidence while their bodies are still developing, then slowly be worked into more stressful roles. It just seems like lots of guys with major arm problems tend to have the problems before age 25 or 26.
  23. Maybe he needs incentives. How about the next time (or first time?) Katin walks 4 times in a week, he gets a brewerfan.net tshirt? If he could get the OBP to around .350, suddenly you could make the case that his raw power is worth it
  24. It irked me in the 9th, because Macha's reason for not bunting with Gerut last week was "well, he's never really done it before" (or something like that). It either should have been a bunt or a steal. Not a swing away for the fences.
  25. At least Pascual only gave up 3 singles! And HBPs don't affect his whip, so he's a thinking man
