  1. Paper and coins will be a thing of the past soon. The major banks have been pushing for this and with the blockchain now becoming more and more prevalent it shouldn't take all that long to move away from paper and coins. FINTECH is a newish field in the financial industry. If you are looking for a job or want to make a career move take a FINTECH bootcamp as soon as possible. Paper and coin made up 5% of the money supply when I was in college from '99-'03. I'm sure it's less than that now, especially with banks creating so much money. I'm still shocked I can't pay with Apple Pay everywhere. Been using it for seemingly 5 or so years. I have noticed a little greater adoption since COVID, though. But these tokenization tools like Apple Pay, Android Pay, and--I think--Samsung Pay are much more secure for businesses and consumers.
  2. What kind of phone do you have? The default Google camera app automatically recognizes bar codes. Same for iPhones.
  3. As long as we don’t have Jesse Levis DH for us again, I’m happy
  4. The weed not being addictive thing has pretty much been debunked....people can be addicted. Anecdotally, I know more people that NEED weed than alcohol. The difference is that it doesn't affect their lives and personal relationships as much. Why? So their insurance premiums can skyrocket? Can you imagine someone driving a forklift with weed in their system? Obese individuals hurt business profitability and rob from their coworkers by raising premiums. Same for smokers, since it costs 5-6 times more to insure a smoker. A huge amount of workers could put themselves and their employers at greater risk, hence why drug testing is required. As a teacher, if I'm suspected of being intoxicated or under the influence, I will be terminated on the spot and my union won't defend me. This goes for most types of jobs in the US. Can you imagine someone being drunk on the job and driving a fork lift? Oh the humanity. What happens with insurance premiums with those huge risks? This idea that "If we don't test for weed, everyone can just smoke pot at work" is a ridiculous strawman. Alcohol is pretty obvious to be aware or. It’s easy to test for. Why are you defending weed by comparing it to alcohol instead of saying both are major risks that a company shouldn’t tolerate
  5. Just got our school district's update. Thankfully we don't have any year-round schools in our district. Those probably are feeling a little panicked since they report in 3-5 weeks. We aren't scheduled to report until July 30th. It brings up awkward challenges in Arizona. Basically, current planning for the fall is a challenge because our state funding mechanism doesn’t allow for hybrid online/in-person classes. It’s either set up for online on in person, with online students being funded at about 85% of in-person. They hope to share more info on our next update on July 1.
  6. To be honest, I hope that this dialogue leads into labor peace over the CBA.
  7. It playoff revenues are so important, why not do a play-in tourney? All 30 teams get in. 9-12 teams could get byes. If it's 12, then the other 18 teams would be placed into 3 pools of 6 teams. Over 5 days, teams play each of the 5 opponents in their pool. If there's a clear winner, they advance to the final 16. The team with the next best record overall makes the 16th team. From there they can go to 5 or 7 game series. Make the playoffs more like a little league tournament of sorts that leads into a traditional post season
  8. I love Comedy Central, but who is their audience? Even though I'm a moderate conservative, I would argue they test well among 20-45 year old males, primarily left-leaning, and heavily on the coasts or big cities. Given that these are the areas with major issues with COVID, I think their PSA's are probably appropriate

  10. Everything better now? Hadn’t been able to reach the site for over a day.
  11. Chourio was given a very similar breakdown as he has in the others, but there were 4 new players listed. Two more Venezuelan shortstops named Gregory Barrios and Daniel Guilarte. Barrios is, “a switch-hitter with good baseball instincts, playing a sound shortstop with smooth actions in the field to go with a high-contact bat and good feel for the strike zone for 16.” Guilarte is said to have, “good bat-to-ball skills from the right side of the plate and a good offensive approach. He's an above-average runner with a strong arm and should stay at the position.” Then they’re connected to two Dominican outfielders named Hendry Mendez and Manuel Vargas. They say Mendez is, “ a 6-foot-3 corner outfielder who impressed some scouts with his bat and power potential, though he was up-and-down with his offensive performance at big events.” And that he is in line for a high 6-figure bonus. Vargas, “has hit well during games in the Dominican Republic, making frequent contact with a line-drive, all-fields approach.” 6'3" as a 16yr old? He'll be 6'7"+ by time matures Not necessarily. Lots of kids are 6’3” at that age. Sadly I was like 5’8”. I had firmed at 6’5” at age 14 that stopped growing taller. I had friends 5’3” at 18 that grew to 6’1”.
  12. When it comes to profile, Hart instantly jumped into my head. Size, power, arm, and speed fit great. Not sure what Hart’s scouting report was coming out of high school as 11th rounder but based on results, think Hart had less contact concerns. He pretty much hit right away. Dominated AA & think won MVP that year. So not sure if his bat had the hole Wiemer does but Hart potential is def there! I've seen a few Rob Deer comparisons for Wiemer. yep, seen that. So more Brandan Katin than Corey Hart? Still kind of shocked Katin never got a few at bats
  13. I like the profiles on all these guys. It was pretty obvious that MLB teams would shy away from HS players after the first round, since the players have tremendous leverage and limited immediate financial gains. I also like staying away from pitching here. We'll try to sign some, but lets remember that what built our 2008-2011 success was marquee hitters. We've also had about 6 or 7 consecutive pitcher heavy drafts in early rounds, with little offensive talent in the minors to show. We've got a lot of good arms down there that need chances in a rotation
  14. Not sure either really is a concern. They've had issues, but by the time the 2021 season gets going, they'll be long past them
  15. Isn't that a little harsh for someone who has put up solid numbers and can't even legally drink for 6 months? Turang has done nothing wrong in his career. Almost all sports leagues try to maximize advertising revenue in their drafts, especially the first rounders. The Brewers said this was a no-brainer pick, I believe them. Reading into the time on the clock when the card was turned in isn't really accurate.
  16. When I hear of a guy who makes good contact, and has hidden power, can I dream of Yelich part 2?
  17. The difference between the two is the Brewers discovered Covey’s diabetes as part of his physical after the draft and it was a shock to Covey and something he needed to learn to manage for the first time. Mitchell has managed his diabetes since he was 9 years old and seemingly has full control of caring for himself. Agreed. I have about a dozen diabetic students each year. Nearly all are pretty good about learning to manage their diabetes. However, I've had a few that weren't able to recognize their own highs and lows, leading to major challenges at times. I'm not worried about his diabetes. Sounds like he knows how to manage it, and he'll have his trainers and team dietitians on speed dial at all times.
  18. Weird comment. no, perhaps weird interpretation though. This kid is a phenomenal talent, and getting him into big league camp around one of the hardest workers in baseball, one of the best defenders, can only be a positive. Mitchell has BP power turning pro, Cain was a DFE with raw tools. If Mitchell can model himself after any player in terms of his position, that's Cain. maybe you thought I was dissing him, but that's not what was said. Cain has big league, maximizing talent, all-star, gold-glove level work ethic.
  19. I love the idea of getting this kid around Cain to help learn work ethic. Let's face it, Cain is going to coach or manage one day and who better to learn from. Mitchell's power hasn't been tapped yet? Well, Cain was a DFE wasn't he?!?
  20. I’ve heard for years from a Wisconsin manufacturer that is self-insured and starts at over $20/hr, that 9 of 10 applicants can’t pass a drug test or show basic literacy needed to run their processes. As for the unemployment, yes, it’s $600 federally on top of your state level. Part time workers only missing out on 10 hours of pay are making far more on unemployment.
  21. Major League 3 is much better than major league 2. It’s one of those kind of feel good entertaining movies. Not bad to watch on TBS at 1am
  22. Hi everyone, just wanted some help sifting through the many options. Here's what I'm looking for: -PoE (no batteries) -push notification capable -prefer local storage, but okay with a service -Homekit, or at least not wedded to Google/Nest or Amazon We dabbled with Arlo units in our old home. They worked fine, and we liked notifications. But I would prefer not needing batteries. Any help is appreciated.
  23. My brother and sister-in-law‘s business has run into the issue of employees barking at the idea of returning to work. It’s service industry workers, and most have college/grad degrees working part time. It’s not a safety issue. They are upset that if they return to work, they’ll miss out on the extended unemployment benefits, which could amount to a $500+ weekly paycut.
  24. I thought maybe I had it in early February. As a 13th year teacher, I never get sick besides seasonal allergies. in early February I had four nights of the chills and just felt generally miserable. We got antibody tested in late April and came up negative.
  25. I wonder logistically if the Brewers would be better off playing in AZ than WI. Many players live in AZ, but none that I know of live in WI. The cost of operating the stadiums, even without fans, have to be substantially higher at Miller Park. It would save money for teams AND benefit players and families. Oh well, I guess it's just regional travel this year anyways
