  1. You can see it moving in on righties quite a bit. I think it's cool that she's allowed to play catch in the house/apartment
  2. endaround, what about relievers that improve over time? I know Weathers was once a starter, but it took him 8 big league seasons to have his breakthrough year in Milwaukee. It is possible that Coffey or McClung could be for real. I always was intrigued by Coffey as a Red. Although with McClung, I prefer him as a starter. I'd hate to have him come in, unable to throw strikes, while holding onto a 1-run lead. At least as a starter we have the chance to rally back if he has a bad inning.
  3. Man, McClung at closer just seems a lot like Turnbow....and I don't mean the Tbow that dominated at times
  4. pitchleague, we had rain yesterday, and it's currently hailing! I think this marks the 3rd time since August that we've had precipitation in Phoenix. It's amazing how boring 80-100 and sunny can seem. Sometimes I just yearn for an overcast day.
  5. we've done dinner at my Arizona cousin's house for many years, and now that I live here it's much more convenient. This year, my cousin's brother in law is getting married, so there are a lot of people in town. I heard we could have 60 or 70 for Thanksgiving
  6. Hall was a butcher in the field in May, which really got me frustrated with him. In the past I'd defended his play at 3b. In April and after May, he was better. I tend to prefer Branyan's defense. He sort of reminds me of a hockey goalie over there...like how Surhoff used to get his whole body in front of balls.
  7. Once again I'll say that Rule V picks can contribute, not just be projects. Al Reyes, Graehme Lloyd, and Jose Mercedes all played big roles for the Brewers, although Mercedes was simply not very good. Matt Ford was looking good until that arm injury sidelined him
  8. Prince is not 5' 11"....unless he's wearing his baseball shoes. Nate, your argument about Gamel not being able to stretch much is totally false. On a scale of 1-10, Prince's stretching ability is a 1. Most beer-league softball teams have 1st basemen more adept at picking balls out of the dirt and stretching for throws.
  9. the Brewers did the same with Mike Jones a few years back, and that seemed surprising at the time. Rogers has much better stuff than Jones did, so this makes sense
  10. The Brewers seem to think he can play 3b, and possibly as early as next year
  11. Splitter, great interview. Being a teacher, I can only imagine how difficult it was to prepare the right info and questions. I enjoyed it. I know Scott had a pretty good year in AAA for the Pirates his last season (probably around 2005), but retired after the season, so I figured there was a reason
  12. I don't watch any regular shows except 24, but I have recently seen episodes of Family Guy and South Park that had me laughing hysterically. The Family Guy one was about 9 days ago and had the reference to being in a space ship as like being in a snow globe...I dropped my jaw in shock, then couldn't stop laughing. The South Park one aired a few days after the election and had Obama, McCain, Palin, etc as part of an Ocean's Eleven-type robbery plot, with the campaigns being a massive cover to allow them access to key locations in Washington, DC. I have never been an avid South Park fan, but I do occasionally love how quickly they take current events and weave episodes around them.
  13. Go to McDonalds and instead of ordering off the dollar menu, you can go all out and get the quarter pounder, large fries, a soda, and desert! Jamie, I am not a fan of McDonald's burgers and I live in Arizona, so I get bored of desert. Now if you start talking dessert, then I'm in.
  14. southpaw, if CC is comfortable that he'll be healthy, being a free agent again in 4 years is appealing, as it'd give him one more huge contract.
  15. Keep in mind that the AFL is generally VERY offense friendly. It seems that way again this year, although I'm not following it too closely
  16. nate, my point was not to say Cano should be a target, but rather to say that if the Brewers deal Cameron, I'd prefer to move Weeks to CF and find a 2b. In the proposal I mentioned, Cano was not the primary player to acquire (Hughes was). I believe Cano hits lefty and has a different skillset than Rickie. Too bad we can't take Weeks' ability to walk and add it to Cano's ability to hit for avg. Both have good power. I know nothing about Cano's defense. But I'm very comfortable saying that while Weeks' defense has gotten better, he's still the worst defensive 2nd baseman that I recall the Crew having. I miss the days of guys like Vina and Loretta. Weeks' motions remind me so much of Belliard that it's frustrating. Both have poor footwork and like to make "all arm" throws. The difference defensively was that while Belliard was lazy-looking, he could at least capably turn a double play and was more reliable on throws. And remember, saying someone is worse than Rickie is all relative. Rickie has great range, but makes lots of mistakes. I'd rather have someone with less range that is more reliable (and someone that doesn't shy away from throws from the catcher to first on bunt plays). Durham looked very good at 2nd base because he made all the plays he was supposed to, he turned the double plays well, and didn't make many mistakes. Yet statistically he was supposedly below average.
  17. If we deal Cameron, I'd still consider Weeks to CF as an option. Rickie's weaknesses continue to be fielding grounders, accuracy of throws, and turning double plays. His strengths are his speed/range and arm. Throw in that his college position was CF, and it's logical to me. It might also keep him from getting nicked up so much. Throw in that it's rather easy to acquire a decent 2b. Robinson Cano or Mark Loretta types could be acquired. Ray Durham could be brought back with Iribarren/Hall splitting time. It's possible that a package could be built around Philip Hughes and Robinson Cano for Cameron and something else.
  18. Johnson would be great to add, because if we were to acquire someone as good as him that was 30 years old, it'd cost 4 years and $45-50 million. At his age it could take 1 year and $7-10 million
  19. Al, the Brewers were fairly effective in the 90s with the Rule V draft. Two outstanding picks were Graehme Lloyd and Al Reyes. Jose Mercedes was better than anything we had, so I guess it added talent. I know fairly recently we had Matt Ford who looked good until he that unknown issue.
  20. Mr. Southpaw, My issue is that if the Brewers truly want to entice him, they can do something that they normally never do. The Brewers were foolish to backload Suppan's contract, so why not frontload Sabathia's, while Braun's extension hasn't yet kicked in to the high dollar points. Why not: Year 1: 27 million Year 2: 26 Year 3: 24 Year 4: 23 Year 5: 21 that's 5 years and $121 million. Also, while Wisconsin has very high property taxes, I seem to recall it having fairly low sales and income taxes. I wonder how many million more Sabathia would have to make in CA or NY (high tax states) just to make the same amount he's making in Milwaukee
  21. With 94.5 changing, is there really any true pop/rock station? In high school they were the only true pop station, although 99.1 had moments of pop. It seemed most were switching to alt rock, hip hop, and rap (103.7, 106.9, 102.1, 102.9, etc). I guess that's why I shifted to country, because I felt the best variation on 90s pop music was actually country.
  22. I can see Wood coming to AZ seeing as Lyon is moving on. Kerry lives in the Valley, and has been rumored to be coming here before.
  23. Shane Hill is a surprise. He was one of my Josh Baker, Steve Garrison types. That is, a sort of forgotten pick in the top ten rounds that has tons of talent. Usually with his youth and stuff, there's a different reason for the release, as team's don't just give up on power arms.
  24. I wish we could convince Sheets to close, but he wants multi years and won't be a multi-year experiment
  25. JohnBriggs. I read that Uggla gets moved to 3b where his poor range will be covered up
