  1. I think of Ned as being one of the most intense, fiery managers in the game. He was supposedly one of the biggest work-a-holics in the game. I think the critique of him was that he wasn't soothing enough. To me Kevin Kennedy has never sounded very fiery, but more of a thinker.
  2. Kind of what igor said. I'd target Beltre for one. I was thinking of Fielder and Weeks for Ichiro and Beltre. It gives the rebuilding M's a young cheap star 1b/dh, a talented potential-filled 2b/of/dh, and salary relief. It gives the Brewers a RF and leadoff hitter for the next 4 years. It also gives the Brewers a defensive-minded 3b with 25 hr capabilities. It adds $29 million in '09, but it likely drops $4-6 million from the payroll. Throw in the money that Sabathia, Sheets, Gagne, Turnbow, Capuano, and Durham are making, and that's another $33 million off the books. It's quite possible that Mota and Hall are also not back, resulting in more savings. Ultimately I think this acquisition could happen, possibly with Hall a part of it to balance the books. Ultimately, here's my thought: Ichiro RF Loretta/Durham/Counsell 2b Hardy SS Braun LF Beltre 3b Hart 1b Cameron CF Kendall C Rotation: Gallardo Parra Bush Suppan McClung/Villanueva (I'd love to move Suppan, giving both a chance. I think McClung is a terrible reliever, but okay starter. Villy seems to have learned from his mistakes) pen: Torres Shouse Stetter Dillard Riske
  3. Brenly is eminently qualified having won a title in a smaller market where did he win a title in a smaller market? Phoenix is the 4th or 5th biggest metro area in the nation
  4. I think 3 names come to mind Chip Hale has Ned's intensity and passion for the game. He won at every stop in the Dbacks chain, and is a work-a-holic like Ned. Buck Showalter could come in for two years and crack the whip at our youngsters, but he's only a 1-2 year guy before he wears out his welcome My money is on Kevin Kennedy.
  5. I've been watching bad baseball lately. Although today I tuned in for bad baseball and I think there's a programming mistake, as it appears pretty good so far
  6. Right now it is clear that Villanueva gives us a better chance to win
  7. We need Yo! Please come back! He'd be like trading for a star
  8. yoshii8, the internet is not the finished product. The newspaper print edition is. No need to be so critical of their "rough draft"
  9. here's a simple way of looking at it. Brewers have 143 games down, 19 to go. With a 4 game lead, if the Brewers go 10-9, the Phillies would have to go 14-5 just to catch them. Likewise, for the Crew to overtake the Cubs, the Cubs need to really struggle. Let's say they go 7-12, then by going 11-8 the Brewers would catch them. In otherwords, the Brewers can play .500 ball and there's an outstanding chance we're in the playoffs. With 4 against the Phillies and 6 against the Cubs, the Brewers ultimately control their own destiny.
  10. Loretta is a free agent. If Brad Nelson isn't an option for next year (brass doesn't seem impressed with him), then perhaps Loretta and Counsell at the backup spots would work.

  13. Of our callups, who does everyone expect to get a start? My thought is that for a day game, perhaps Escobar gets the first start. While I'd like to see Gamel, Nelson, or Salome get a start, I think Escobar is first. It's also possible that Rottino could get a start at 3b or Catcher. While the Brewers are up 4.5 games in the Wild Card, they're merely 4 back of the Cubs. Seeing as the Cubs face Harang tomorrow, there's a chance the Brewers could be up 6 in the Wild Card and be only 3 behind the Cubs at this time tomorrow night. When I figured they were likely to win the Wild Card by 4-5 games and finish 4-6 behind the Cubs, I thought it was likely we'd see a few starts by these guys.
  14. It has me thinking that they want him able to throw several innings. I wonder if Parra's mini-slump of late has the Brewers looking at Yo as a starter first, reliever 2nd.
  15. To be honest, I can't imagine Cleveland passing on a potential offensive ignitor like Brantley. While Green and Lucroy play positions that we have a need for, Brantley's success at AA, including advanced strikezone knowledge for someone his age, likely has him as the one they most desire. At this point I would imagine the person the Brewers would most like to deal (of the main 4 that are rumored) is Cain.
  16. I still want Yo as the 8th inning guy, but I've been saying that for a while
  17. wow, Prince just has no clue as to when to go after the ball.
  18. Hart should still have an option. Also, Weeks was granted a 4th option year at the time, so he may have one remaining.
  19. the Cleveland reporter at the time reported that in some way it was conditional...based on either the brewers success or Sabathia's
  20. that strike 3 call looked like a perfect changeup
  21. wow. How does Beltran's popup get out of the park, while Hall crushes it and it doesn't? Also, come on Prince, most beer league softball 1st basemen would have gotten that long hop. Completely mis-played by Prince.
  22. Don't forget Lawrie..based on ceiling I'd have him in the top 5 Also, it's exciting to see some pitching AND hitting prospects hitting AA. Aguilar, Jeffress, Periard, etc. Even Braddock is sort of on the Parra schedule (ie, just stay healthy, and it'll come). Several catchers on the rise. Next year's A+, AA, and AAA rosters should be loaded
  23. Remember, the Brewers look closely at pitch counts over a multiple game period. I would imagine that Seidel and Anundsen must have had a number or low-pitch count games. Remember how Tim Dillard seemed to dramatically improve his innings? It was later reported that he was going 7, 8, or 9 innings while throwing under 90 pitches/game
  24. i teach and actually took a high school girls golf coaching job in part because I'll walk roughly 4k yards per day, or 2.5 miles. In the past I lost weight by eating the same, but by jogging half an hour each night. The problem is that I don't have a workout partner and am just not mentally disciplined enough for that.
  25. Brantley finishes with 26 K's, 49 BB...wow!
