  1. URL please? http://www.hicountry.com/store/ Good stuff...so addicting.
  2. The best jerky I've ever had is made by a Montana Company that conveniently sells it on the web. Hi Country. Their peppered, honey kissed, honey peppered, and terryaki all make me smile and make my gums cry out "FLOSS!!!!!!" The pet treats are loved by my brother's dog, and I've heard drunk friends say that taste alright when drunk. It's worth ordering some of it just to try it...it's awesome
  3. Hey folks, I'm trying to compile better resources for bellwork/warmups. I teach 7th grade history, US hist from 1850-1941. Does anyone have a good site or collection of things for students to analyze, such as political cartoons?
  4. Interesting to see Brent Brewer moving to a tougher hitting league, and yet now his hot streak has him pushing .250. Nice progress
  5. Somehow Tom Haudricourt thinks Sheets will only get 4 years at $50-60 million. I think he'll get 4 years and 70 million. And I do think Sabathia can be resigned, unlike Haudricourt, as I wouldn't expect Hall to be back, with the possibility that Weeks might be moved (although he's doing fairly well lately)
  6. Clancy, why would the Japanese leagues give up their best pitcher for 3 players best called minor league fodder. At least Brad Nelson would likely hit well
  7. It also doesn't hurt that Balfour is one more year removed from surgeries. I felt bad that we gave him such a short leash, but McClung has been much better than I expected. So it's actually been a wash...a rare trade that works out well for both teams
  8. With the money argument, keep in mind that each player has significant expenses. One month of the league minimum salary is roughly $60k. Each night in a hotel is roughly $300-500 per person. Each day on the road nets approximately $90 in meal money. The flight to the big leagues costs roughly $1-2k. Throw in any extra equipment that might be needed. We called up a lot of people last year and I'd expect the same this year. I could see Stocker instead of Gwynn since he's better defensively and is a better baserunner (and faster).
  9. To be honest it doesn't matter. It's win-win for us. They still have 7 games left. As long as nobody goes 6-1 against the other, we're fine
  10. I am expecting Escobar to give a look. He'd likely be only there to pinch run, but if we can afford a start or two it'd be fun to see what we have. Since he's on the 40 man roster and he's our best backup at SS defensively, he should be added
  11. Well, the reinforcements may be able to help in about 3 weeks. As of now, here's what it seems like, based on 40-man roster designations: Probable: Gallardo Dillard Stetter Dillon Escobar Nelson Gibbons (needs to be added to 40-man) Gwynn (pinch runner) Possible: DiFelice Pena Palmisano Rottino Iribarren The "probables" are players I would expect to get called up (or activated in Gallardo's case). I also would expect a 3rd catcher with Palmisano and/or Rottino as the guys. I can't recall us ever having this kind of depth, so that's pretty cool. All are already on the 40 man roster except Gibbons, but we have an open spot. I also can't recall if Capuano is on the 60-day DL for extra flexibility. Keep in mind that in September, only minor league playoff games are going on, so players wouldn't be hurt by riding the pine and gaining only a handful of at bats. I'd love to see what Brantley can do if they feel he can play some CF, but I doubt they add him, Salome, or Gamel.
  12. nice night on the farm tonight. Lou Palmisano with a triple tonight. I'd expect him back in AAA within a week. He just needs to catch a few games. The 2008 draftees (except Frederickson) have been holding their own in West Virginia.
  13. After seeing the video footage today, I still believe that Gallardo will be our reliever acquisition.
  14. nate, is Niemann still a prosect? Seems to me that he's still surviving on his reputation from Rice.
  15. I wonder if Wahpepah might be stagnating...3 years in A+? He's had good numbers each time, and is a groundball machine. Come on now, give him a chance
  16. Fielder with a pathetic effort on Hardy's tough throw in the 9th tonight. Man, Sexson was almost a foot taller than Prince, yet he got far lower on throws in the dirt. Sure it was a tough throw, but Prince didn't even touch the ball...he whiffed it under his glove.
  17. Escobar was filling in because he wasn't "requested" by any clubs in his native country, as he was only 18 and a low level prospect
  18. Some things to keep in mind. Only one player per organization with no AA experience prior to August 1st (at least in past years). To me that person could be Green or Jeffress. I think that Derek Miller could be one of the pitchers. As for Aguillar, I believe he's foreign and foreign players generally only play in the AFL if the teams in their native country opt not to sign them. As for Jones, it would make sense to me because he'd be making up for some lost time, he's a reclamation project, and the Crew has kept him for this long, why not at least keep him through the AFL? So my revised picks: 3b Gamel CF/1b/dh Brantley/Gillespie C Salome P Jones P D. Miller P Ellison/Wahpepah
  19. AZ tends to have 6 players. I think I've done alright with predictions the last two years. Since AFL players have to have been in AA, I'll say: 3b Matt Gamel 1b/OF Michael Brantley --if traded, I'll say Cole Gillespie C Angel Salome RP Mike Jones I need to think of two more pitchers. I included Jones cause the Crew usually sends one Bausher/Wolfe reclamation project. This A+ pitcher they just signed last week might make sense (can't remember his name).
  20. I like that I can now play video games, and am not expected to drive 40 minutes to see her at least twice a weekend.
  21. I thought Braun had some absolutely amazing range at 3b. He got to balls that I've only seen Rolen get to. Unfortunately usually after getting to a ball that nearly every other 3b would fail to grab, he usually made a throwing error. I thought it could have worked with Braun at 3b, but I'm happy with him in left because it means Jenkins' abysmal range isn't out there
  22. part of me would love to see him at catcher. And I think it's funny to think that he's just learning it. He's played it for two years. Others like Henry Blanco and Russell Martin picked it up while in the minors. Still, third base is intriguing if the Brewers think Gamel can't make it. Ultimately, I still expect him to sign a 2009 contract.
  23. I'm kind of partial to Kirsten Dunst, Bridget Moynahan, Mila Jovovich, or Reese Witherspoon. I think Kirsten or Mila would be the top choice
  24. also, Palmisano with his '08 debut in the Arizona game
  25. colby, what's interesting with Jones is that I believe he's only 12-13 months removed from Tommy John surgery. I can't believe he opened the year in a rotation
