  1. This happens enough at Brynnwood that the club is struggling for members. The club has primarily had Jewish members, but in recent years began working hard at trying to draw in any new members that they could. It's ashame, because it's a great course. The neighborhood just isn't very good, and it's enough to scare away folks that are willing to pay good money for an exclusive course.
  2. To be fair to the brewers, if guys are likely day-to-day, it would be a waste (in their minds) to buy plane tickets and rent hotel rooms for players, sending them back and forth to affiliates just to keep full benches. To send guys from AZ-Helena without purchasing tickets in advance is likely $1000 roundtrip, throwing in hotel costs, etc. The Brewers would probably rather let a former stud hitter like Romanowski (sp?) DH than send an overwhelmed AZ leaguer to Montana for 4 days and $1600 in expenses.
  3. Frederickson is bringing some excitement that I haven't had since Neugy, Gold, and Mieses
  4. looking back on 2007, why is this SS Sanchez re-doing Arizona? Numbers last year weren't shabby. Do we know anything about this kid?
  5. I would expect that Lawrie will sign a 2009 contract.
  6. Fryer sure is raking in West Virginia. And W Va trying to go to 5-2 in the 2nd half. Playing better, and better pitching
  7. There was a site last year that was often referenced on here. I'm just curious how the Brewers record compares to the Cubs, relative to strength of schedule. It was a cool tool to check out last year
  8. what's noticeable is that despite our massive amount of OF-types in A, A+, and AA, we have VERY few in Rookie ball at both levels. We could probably use Goetz again.
  9. Joe, my rationale was that Brantly is supposedly advanced as a defender. He's likely a bit weak for CF, but solid in the corner outfield and 1b spots. At least that's from my understanding. Also, LaPorta and Brantley play positions where defense isn't quite as important. With Salome and Gamel, every throw or fielding attempt is very important.
  10. It seems to me that Jones has had a few decent outings lately. Also, didn't he have Tommy John surgery last July?
  11. Salome, like Gamel, needs to work on his defense. I'd expect both to stay in AA all year. LaPorta to AAA is more likely, the same for Brantley.
  12. Peavey, I cringe at the thought of playing Hafner AND Fielder in the same lineup!. Good thing we're in the NL!
  13. t doesn't matter what we get in return. By doing so, we can free up 10-12 M to sign Sheets/Sabathia. Perhaps, but letting Gagne go frees $10 million. In fact, here's some of the guys that may or may not be back: Gagne $10 million Hall $6.8 million (in '09) Mota $3.2 Torres $3.2 Cameron $6.2 Capuano $3.75 That's over $30 million right there. That means there's room to bump Sheets by 7 million up to $18 million AND sign Sabathia for $18 million, and pay the replacements for the aforementioned players while STILL cutting costs, which would be used to off-set other pay raises for players.
  14. when coaching girls' high school softball, the umps used to allow our athletic shortstop to switch mid at bat. She was a right with pop, but a big uppercut. She was so fast that just slapping the ball could be an infield hit. So we had her bat lefty, but if there were two strikes she'd switch to righty.
  15. Venditte...wasn't there a high profile pick in '07 that was ambidextrous? Also, about 4 years ago wasn't there one? Still fun to see
  16. Has Ponson done anything in about 8 years? Seems like the only thing has been getting in trouble
  17. Nice to see all of the Helena starters have a hit in the first two games. It's gotta be tough getting the first hit of the season/career after going 0-fer several games. Frederickson is basically our left-handed, college version of Neugy. Seems like the only guy that'll be able to beat him is himself.
  18. I'd love to add Ichiro. The M's might like that Cameron's contract expires after the year. Ichiro would likely go to RF with Hart in CF. I don't know what it would take to add him though.
  19. It sounds like Lawrie will sign sometime around a week before the deadline, and the contract may very well be for 2009, since he'll likely be joining Team Canada (not our very own TC)
  20. My taxes are tricky due to a family company. We have a lot of phantom income because of how the company is set up, even though we get virtually nothing out of the company in a dividend. So I had expected a lower amount, but for it to be $0 would be rather unfortunate. I got the letter in March or so that indicated that people would be getting stimulus checks starting soon Just found a "tracker" on the IRS site. Says my gross income was too high..so I guess the phantom income was the key.
  21. Does Mercedes have the stuff to be a closer?
  22. I was out there on Friday, but I didn't see Turcott and Stricker. I just missed them both. I was bummed that we had a lack of knowledge. The scoreboards/leaderboards are not as effective as the ones at the US Bank. They had some cool wireless technology sponsored by AmEx, but it was only the first 1,500 cardmembers each day.
  23. 2hoophead, what date was yours supposed to be sent? I'm hoping for $300-600, but it was supposed to be sent on June 6th. When I left for the US Open on the 12th, it hadn't arrived.
  24. my girlfriend wondered about it, because when we'd be watching TV and I'd dose, I'd snore. Also, I have a slightly crooked nose. All of my nose bleeds in my life (plenty given my allergies, and that I now live in a desert) have been the right nostril. I've never wondered, but I may ask my doctor some time
