  1. There is no incentive to come to Milwaukee based on those figures AJAY, I was thinking they meant the Yankees, not the Mets, but I guess both need pitchers. If the difference is $2 million, that's a lot. Wisconsin has very high property taxes, but remember they also do not have very high income or sales taxes. The $2 million more to come to Milwaukee may actually be more like $5 million over the life of the contract, unless you factor in his playoff shares as a Yankee/Met. He's never had that huge contract, so there's a good chance he may go to the highest bidder. I would think he's smart enough to avoid Colorado.
  2. I would be intrigued by Suppan. He doesn't give up too many homers, his hits/IP aren't terrible. In fact the only real concern I have is that he walks 60-70 per year, which obviously isn't far from Capuano territory. I like that he's been relatively healthy, and for the amount of starts he's made, he hasn't been logging 230 innings every year. He could easily be counted on for 190-210 innings with Ned, as he's much more trusting of his starters than the micro-managing expert LaRussa. Also, his ERA's (and ERA+) have been much better than I would have expected, and not just in the last 3-4 years. He's really been a solid 2 or 3 starter since about 1999. I think a 3 year $21 million deal might be a steal, with $9-11 million per year being a far better bargain than most of the other signings we've seen. For some reason people have been more enamored with people who have far less production. I think my perceptions of Suppan were wrong, because I assumed as a journeyman that he was no better than a 4 or 5 starter.
  3. I also mentioned it elsewhere, but I'd love to bring back the durable, hard throwing Ray King. Seems like he could be had cheaply, too
  4. They also could replace Figgins at 3B with Kotchman Isn't Kotchman a 1b/DH because he's left-handed?
  5. I think the Yankees will sign Clemens to a 3 year $75 million deal
  6. I would love to add Marquis, however, I can't imagine us getting him. Remember, his numbers are horribly skewed because of two outings when he got shelled. He was hit so hard because the night before the previous start got lit up. He took one (or two) for the team, and didn't complain. The rest of the time he's more than adequate.
  7. Toby, are you resigning because of a sex scandal or something? You been hitting on the Brewerfan.net male interns again?
  8. aracko, this is an example where us fans don't fully understand things. Remember, this is a player whose arm is his ticket to big things. He trusts his arm, and trusts it'll get better with rest and rehab. The last option is to have surgery on that golden arm, as some guys just never come back from them. We always wonder why guys "just don't get it taken care of." well, it's because we're not the ones needing the surgery.
  9. I'd have no qualms about dealing for Harden, because it's elbow injuries. If they were shoulder injuries, I wouldn't consider it.
  10. Well, since Brad Nelson likely won't land anything, I think I'd offer a reliever like Sarfate, the A's might value Nix's offense or Gwynn's game (as Beane has shifted to valuing defensive metrics), Zach Jackson, and another player of their choosing. Actually, Bill Hall makes some sense for them. Harden is a bit of a risk. He sprained his elbow ligament, so it's conceivable that he could finish tearing it in the next year or so. However, he's a player that is at least as good as Sheets, if not better, when healthy.
  11. I think Ben McDonald did about 2 years after he was out of the organization. And did Neugy? capsular shift, or capsular tightening is the term, I think. If I remember correctly, Orel Hershiser and D'Amico were the first two to ever return from the surgery.
  12. it could always be the rumored Jenkins for Benitez
  13. Scutaro was also a money-ball type. Told he can't play SS, but he went about doing it with mediocrity and a high OBP. Good backup to have
  14. so he hits some homers, walks, hits for avg, and doesn't strike out much. Well, I guess he's the AAA 1b now. Nelson back to OF?
  15. maybe it's Mench, Clark, Turnbow for Lieber, Rowand, and Burrell
  16. I've long considered Tracy to be a more powerful version of Cirillo, only left-handed. Not quite as sure-handed, but like I said, more powerful.
  17. Tracy would be a huge upgrade over everyone we have. Still, I can't imagine them parting with him unless we want to deal Dave Bush.
  18. Rotoworld is reporting that Lieberthal was signed by the Dodgers to be the backup, making Hall a likely non-tender. If that's the case, and there is interest in Miller, should we sign him and deal Miller? I like Damien, but I also know Hall's been someone who was supposed to "break out" for the last 3-5 years
  19. i do have a hunch that we'll do something tomorrow. It might be Clark getting dealt, or a reliever like Aquino. I just think we'll part with an outfielder by tomorrow night
  20. it's very solid. He also doesn't walk anyone, so the WHIP can fluctuate based on hits. My guess is that our park will yield a few less hits, along with the NL Central in general.
  21. Colby, I was interpreting that as perhaps the injury was the fault of the changes. Kind of like when I speculated that perhaps Peterson's injury was because they changed his mechanics rather than letting him go with what worked. Speaking of Peterson, he should be our new play by play guy
  22. I read a couple weeks ago that Kevin Towers personally told Peavy he'll be in San Diego as long as he runs the show Wendy Selig-Prieb personally told Cirillo that they wanted to extend him, not trade him. Less than 24 hours later he was a Rockie

  24. I sure hope we don't give him that extra year (likely a 5th). Nor do I feel like overpaying. define overpaying? Is 4 years and $50-55 million too much?
  25. Peavey, it also doesn't say that they aren't willing to overpay or give that extra year. It just says that typically that's what the non- A or B choices need to do
