  1. pretty obvious the formula for success so far, eh? As for my surprise...Cappy w/5 QS. I was shocked on Wed to go to mlb.com and see he was leading the league in K's. And how 'bout that Sheets K:BB.
  2. i actually checked it out this time...pretty sweet
  3. I've never feared Ramirez. I always thought he was overhyped, overrated, and overpaid. Then last year he had a breakout year, so I was silenced. But last I checked, he was hitting under .200
  4. just wondering, is there any hitter in that lineup that scares people? I must be missing someone
  5. West Virginia with a chance to get back to .500 today
  6. The Hebrew Hammer, anyone? is he Jewish? Boy, this A+ offense has some nice numbers for a pitchers' park in a pitchers' league, as someone else mentioned the other day. and I guess that would qualify as a rough inning for Luis Pena
  7. does anyone else have a huge smile on their faces when they see Mike Jones' name in the boxscores, and having a good line? Also good to see big games for the usuals in BC--the Hurricane (category 4), Braun, Katin
  8. not to get offtopic, but the answer to the quote from 1992casey is that Sheets scrapped the 2 seamer and began dialing up the 4-seamer as hard as he could. In addition, he also somehow managed to learn to locate his heater. His first 2-3 years, his curve was not a strikeout pitch. In the last 2+ years he now has 2 strikeout pitches (high cheese, curve), better command, he also seems to throw more fastballs, and only uses the changeup occasionally to mix it in, but rarely more than 2-3 times per game
  9. It's interesting to see Mike Stodolka on there from the Royals. He was on the '04 Fall League squad that I worked as a part of. Nice guy, quite, but has always battled arm injuries.
  10. I'm not sure how they'd keep him in A+ if he had a full season in West Virginia with an ERA of around 1-2 and K:BB of 6 or so
  11. NastyTwig, I'm with ya...I couldn't wait to check out those boxscores, and I'm impressed. Yo with a great outing, especially considering who he was pitching against. It's possible that if this keeps up, Gallardo hits AA in July, Inman to A+. Any word on Parra?
  12. Li'l Ben, Rogers, and Nelson Cruz all with good days so far
  13. yeah bork, I've been noticing. I'm trying not to get too excited so far, as it's just been a few starts. But if he were to keep it up, he'd definitely be a #3 starter, not a 1 year wonder as some thought.
  14. wow, congrats. Hadn't seen this thread before. Really cute kid.
  15. thanks Colby. I'm looking forward to Rogers, Hendrickson, and Miller today. Rogers had a better line last outing. I'd like to see him go 3 innings, 0-2 runs, 1-2 BB, and 4-6 K's. It's about progress, and an outing like that would show progression. As for Hendrickson, I'm enjoying following him, but I'd like fewer walks. It's my major critique of Davis and Capuano, too. If these three pitchers could manage to knock 20-30% of their walks off their 2005 totals, then they'll all be much more successful.
  16. good to see Krynzel make an appearance in the boxscore rather than as a guy going to the DL. Also, good to see Gwynn and E. Cruz's averages continuing to climb
  17. The Hurricane back up to .400. Seeing as .500 is hard to do, should .400=category 5, .350=category 4, .300=category 3?
  18. darn, no more no hitter. i was starting to believe
  19. good hit there by Rickie. Haven't seen him hit many that hard so far. Now send him to second. Still, Rickie is missing a lot of fastballs over the plate. Looks like Damien Miller is using a Weeks bat
  20. if I remember correctly, he's a very hard thrower. Hard not to notice the starts by Hendrickson and Eveland, and to a lesser extent Jackson. With Ohka alternating good start/terrible start, and Bush inconsistent, there's a chance we see one of them in the bigs by mid May. I'm not expecting a trade, but with the bullpen needing a long guy, it's possible Bush shifts to long relief for the time being with one of them filling in. I'm not saying Bush should be demoted, but rather it'd be a way to possibly strengthen the staff as a whole
  21. Lets start a pool. Who will be the first member to start a It'll be a user I've never heard of. Not because he's a newby, but because any previous posts will be so ridiculous that I will ignore the thread.
  22. the first pitch on the corners called all night was the strike three looking for jenkins. It was a strike, but it's the first I've seen. Although in fairness, the corners haven't been there for Reds pitchers either
  23. well, the walk for Adams was interesting. Two borderline pitches called balls. Then he comes back and nearly gets him. Philips just destroyed that pitch Would sure be nice to have Helling now. De La Rosa is the long guy by default, and he wasn't impressive. Adams far from impressive so far...just yucky all around
  24. just clicked on Salome's stats...anyone else notice he's got 5 BB vs a whopping 3 K's! Not bad for a kid in his first full year in full season ball
  25. wow, Ohka actually managed to make a worse play than in his last start
