  1. I can't get upset with Gonzalez starting a few games at 1st until Hart returns. If Hart were lost for the season, then yes, they should find a better option. The Brewers lost there 1st, 2nd, and 3rd option for 1st base to injury. Gonzalez was signed to be the utility infeilder. I'm sure it wasn't the ideal situation Gonzalez was looking for, but he signed with the understanding that if anyone should happen to suffer an injury, he would be 1st in line for playing time. Hart got injured, the utility infeilder receives some starts until Hart is healthy. Injury replacements are rarely ideal.
  2. Has MLB's drug testing program really degenerated to the point where MLB is basically the junior high school mean girls? So really all I have to do is write down the name of the person I hate (suspect is a user) on a piece of scrap paper with the words "hate her" (active) following said persons name and the entire junior high school class ( MLB and the "tabloid" sports media conglomerate) will shun said person? It would be almost temping to try if it wasn't so laughably ridiculous. Investigating anyone for a crime without hard evidence because you want them to be guilty is the tactics of tyrants and dictators, and goes against everything I was taught we Americans stand for.
  3. The WBC isn't about the United States. It's not even about Asia or the Caribbean nations. It's about Europe and the bias European leaders who govern international sports. These are the close-minded bureaucrats who recently voted to add Rugby, which only has a serious following in Europe and Australia, but eliminate Wrestling as an Olympic sport. The WBC started as a result of these same bureaucrats eliminating Baseball a few years ago. This sent a clear message to Baseball officials that they needed to increase their international following, especially in Europe. This is about long-term future of sports. All major sports are jockeying for position globally, as some may not survive 50 years from now. Basketball and Hockey are in great shape globally, Baseball has a solid foundation around the world with the exception of Europe. American NFL football, while the most popular here in the USA, is in really bad shape globally, which is why the NFL is more concerned about placing a team in London than in Los Angeles. I'm glad Aoki decided to concentrate on solidifying his position as the starting rightfielder for the Brewers over representing his country. Had to be a tough decision for him.
  4. I choose to be in denial and believe Doug Melvin only released a statement that contract talks have been shelved because Casey close and Doug are finalizing the details and don't want the media bothering them about it over the next few weeks.
  5. Kalle8, you just made my wife cry. Thank you so much for sharing your story. It's posts like this that remind me why I like this forum.
  6. I agree with this. Not trying to make facts fit any version. I just think the Technicality is alot more than just the collector waited 2 days to ship sample. Shyman Das never ruled in a players favor before (at least that we're aware of), so I find it hard to believe he would just based on that. Braun more than likely did take something he shouldn't have, as I also find it difficult to believe MLB is "out to get" Braun. MLB clearly believes he's guilty of something, but it's also clear MLB failed to prove their case. I have to say, you're entitled to your opinions, but I think this is pretty condescending. I'm a fairly smart, rational person, and I have a very different view of the likeliest underlying facts. I'm not going to insult your thought process that has led to your view; I wish you wouldn't insult mine. I wasn't aware of what your view was on this issue, and I certainly had no intent to insult anyone's point of view. Nowhere in my post did I indicate I believe anyone who disagrees with my point of view is either dumb or irrational.

  8. I still believe Braun has an agreement with MLB and the players union not to release details of his case. I keep thinking back to his press conference where he said he couldn't go into all the details of his case, and that he would put the best interests of Baseball ahead of his own best interests. He acknowledged it wouldn't be easy. This is just my opinion, but I think the union and MLB are actively covering up what happened in Braun's case, more than likely because both sides want to protect the testing system. No way an intelligent man such as Das exonerated Braun simply because some guy didn't deliver his sample in a timely manner. There has to be so much more.
  9. I like the fact that Lucroy is throwing out baserunners and they're turning double plays when Joe Block is calling the game. He seems to be doing well. I'll get used to him quickly. I like his measured excitement when calling big plays. Not over the top, but paints a good picture of the action. All I can ask from a radio play by play announcer.
  10. Agreed! I'm not really happy about the idea of hanging banners to celebrate wildcard or division championships, it's sort of feels like something teams with low expectations do. I'm not trying to put down the Brewers, I have been a fan for over 30 years. I Just think it's better to acknowledge a fine season in a event like Brewers on Deck with fans rather than hang banners celebrating unsuccessful championships. I sure teams that expect to win the World Series each year don't hang banners celebrating a division championship. As for 2011, losing to St. Louis hurt, and the Braun situation is disappointing to say the least, but I think time will heal wounds and in a few years I'll look back on 2011 and be proud of 96 wins and home field dominance.
  11. That would make so much more sense to me. Demonstrating how the handling of the sample could cause a false test would give me reason to give Braun the benefit of the doubt. I would guess they had to test part of the sample immediately to show it was clean first, then test the rest of the sample after replicating the conditions it sat in between the time Braun submitted it to the time it was tested in Montreal. Also if that is in fact the case, I could understand why MLB would want to repress that information from ever getting out.
  12. I think Braun has some agreement with MLB not to release details that would damage the testing process. I know it's hard to believe considering the venom MLB is directing toward Braun, However Braun still has to work for MLB so it isn't unreasonable. Braun did say in his press conference he wouldn't go into all the details of his case, that he would put the interests of Baseball ahead of his own interests. And that it wouldn't be easy. I find it really hard to believe Shayman Das (SP?) would rule in his Braun's favor just on the "technicality" of delayed shipment. There has to be much more to this than just that. Das ruled against players in the other 12 appeals he presided over, so it seems there had to be something really convincing to cause him to go against what he's ruled in the past and overturn Braun's test.
  13. I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps this is a bit far-fetched, But I'm starting to wonder if Braun has a deal made with MLB not to release all the info on his case. He stated in his press conference he couldn't release all the details and he would put the best interests of Baseball before his own best interests. I'm thinking an agreement for Braun to take it on the chin for awhile and details will slowly "leak" out after the storm has blown over. MLB is desperate to protect the testing program and releasing details is something MLB probably doesn't want. Would explain why the long delay in releasing a decision. That would be incredibly BIG of Braun, I admit, considering the amount of damage his credibility is taking in the short term, but if he knows the whole truth will be out eventually, I can maybe see it. As some have said here, the Real motive of MLB is PR and convincing everyone the testing system is credible.
  14. The question I have is why is MLB scheduling tests without setting up proper chain of custody beforehand? The very idea that a professional collector has to drive around town looking for a Fed Ex office to ship his sample seems very unprofessional to me. Why isn't MLB explaining this? I personally would trust Fed Ex to properly store my sample for 2 days Rather than some guy placing it in his Fridge or on his desk. At least then there is documentation as to how it was properly stored.
  15. Just my opinion, but it's reasonable to assume Gamel can hit, based on his minor league numbers, so if the Brewers commit to him I think he'll be alright. I expect him to start off hot in April, by about mid May as pitchers round into mid season form, he'll probably struggle a bit. How he adjusts to that will be what I judge him by, but if the Brewers allow him to work through his struggles, I'm betting his numbers will be very respectable by the end of the season. Defensively, that's what I would concentrate on if I were Gamel. I think Roenicke (sp?) will let him work through any struggles he may have offensively, but if he proves to be brutal on defense, I think that would be far more reason to give up on him than any struggles with the bat. I like rooting for the little guys, so I will be pulling for him.
  16. So...if this is true...does this mean that two other Brewers tested positive and are also going through an appeal process? I sure hope not! Well if teams suspect it might be Prince, it would help explain his crazy off season so far.
  17. What's to prevent Melvin from trading Francisco Rodriguez, He doesn't necessarily have to trade him to someone looking for a closer. He could perhaps wait to see what happens in spring, which team has bullpen trouble due to injuries. Or perhaps go in completely the other direction, and try to sign Rodriguez to a longer term contract that is structured better and make him the closer, then shop Axford. Melvin probably could get a far better return for Axford since he's more affordable for more years than Rodriguez. Not saying I want to trade Axford, but it is an option.
  18. Never expected to see the day where I would look to Randy Wolf to be the stopper.
  19. I still dislike INT BB, even with Loe not on his game.
  20. I dislike INT BB, especially when Marcum is pitching so well.
  21. an 0-4 with 3 strikeouts from Bill Hall tonite will garner nothing less than a standing ovation from me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. I'm sure back in 2008 when Braun signed his original extention, it was probably with an agreement that it would be re-examined in a few years should Braun prove to be the player that he has been. No player is happy to be underpaid and Braun would've been underpaid in the final years of his original contract. I'm happy for Braun and the Brewers, every team needs star players who become the face of the franchise, which Braun now clearly is. However locking anyone up for 9 years at over 100 Mil. will always make me nervous, that's a long time and alot could happen. Hopefully Braun takes this responsibility he now has to continue to improve his game defensively as well as all other areas to truly justify the commitment the Brewers have invested in him.
  23. I can't get to worked up over who they choose to keep as a backup catcher. I've seen enough PB get by Kottaras and combined with his average arm, it's not hard to understand why he wasn't chosen. I haven't seen enough of Nieves to form an opinion on whether or not he is any better, but apparently Roenicke has. For a backup catcher, I'd rather have defense and any offense is a bonus. If Nieves turns out to be a disaster on defense, they can always recall Kottaras or someone else.
  24. With this tight strike zone tonight, this game may come down to which team is more patient. Not a good sign for the Brewers with this lineup.
