  1. I don't know if this was posted anywhere else but I thought this was an interesting schedule quirk for the 2013 season. On May 27-30, the Brewers play a home-away series versus the Twins. On May 27 & 28 they play at Miller Park against the Twins and on May 29 & 30 at Target Field. The same goes for the: True Rivalry Dodgers-Angels Cubs-White Sox Giants-A's Mets-Yankees Nationals-O's Cardinals-Royals Reds-Indians Marlins-Rays Forced Rivalry D-Backs-Rangers Rockies-Astros Padres-Mariners Braves-Blue Jays Phillies-Red Sox Pirates-Tigers While I really like the idea of the home-away 4 game series, I don't like the feeling of the designated forced rivalries. I'd almost prefer these be rotated yearly but I get the feeling that these will be scheduled annually for the forseeable future.
  2. I'd be very tempted to give Jake Peavy a look. However, his past screams injury risk and I think it will take more than a Randy Wolf deal (3 years, $30 million) to get him and I'd be hard pressed even at that rate.
  3. We so obviously won the McGehee-Veras deal
  4. Gallardo for Upton & Skaggs...I'll even throw in K-Rod.
  5. I am a big Upton guy...If the Cubs get Upton that team's 2-4 spots will look real nice moving forward: 2. Castro 3. Upton 4. Rizzo
  6. What would the D'Backs trade for Hart?
  7. I think Hart is a Brewer lifer. Taken a step further, I also think Rickie is as well. An offense moving forward with Braun, Hart, Weeks & Lucroy (maybe Aoki) for the next three seasons is fine by me given the rotation will likely feature cost controlled guys like Fiers, Peralta, Thornburg, etc...moving forward. I'm all for dealing Ramirez and giving the Brewers the ability to fill in SS (Segura), 3B (Green) & CF (Schafer) from internal means or via trade.
  8. I'm conflicted on dealing Ramirez. I don't believe we're as far out of contending as a lot of people do. With even an average bullpen we are probably looking at a record of something like 53-49 and on the outskirts of contending instead of 46-56. Injuries to Gamel, Marcum and Gonzalez have hurt as well. Returning this team in 2013 with a retooled bullpen would probably put us in the mid 80s win range. Not great but good. As a small market in baseball, I don't mind being good. The flip side of this is that Ramirez' contract is really unnecessary on this team right now. Paying whatever is left on that contract after 2012 is just bad business as I don't think we are likely to make the playoffs in 2013 or 2014 without some huge change in outlook (i.e. Greinke re-signing, Fiers sustaining his run, Axford returning to form and the bullpen in general becoming good and not just average). Given this I think the worst thing the Brewers can do is become the Bucks and strive for mediocrity. I'd rather see Green at 3B and get some kind of return on Ramirez today and ditch his contract.
  9. If this trade were to be offered to the Brewers I wouldn't let the D'Backs off the phone until it was finalized. Our SP would likely scuffle for the rest of the year but wow we would have some serious SP talent in the minors and close to MLB.
  10. Rumor out here (Los Angeles) is Victorino is next. That team is starting to look really solid.
  11. Not sure if this has already been posted but it is definitely a good perspective on the trade... "The Brewers believe Segura, signed as a second baseman, can stay at shortstop and be a better-hitting, if worse-fielding, version of Alcides Escobar, whom they traded to get Greinke. The 6-foot-9 Hellweg or hard-throwing Pena could fill the Jake Odorizzi role as a potential impact starter, though both could end up in the bullpen, like Jeremy Jeffress, another player in Milwaukee's original Grienke deal. If those pieces happen to even out, that means the Brewers got to an NLCS and had 1 2/3 years of Greinke for Lorenzo Cain, a trade they'd make a million times again." Article Jeff Passan posted the other day. Now if we can only trade Marcum for Profar
  12. Segura will be better than Ransom or Izturis and cheaper than trying to sign a FA SS. So he will help. The two young arms give us a lot of talent in AA and AAA or in the majors next year. Next year we will have Nelson, Jungmann, Peralta Rogers, Thornburg, Burgos and Fiers and now the two arms from the Angels. That is a lot of young talent and we have guys like Bucci and Scarpetta coming off injuries Every single one of them unproven, and could be total busts. While I agree with you re-signing Greinke was our best option at staying competitive in the short term, he was determined to test FA. And dude...we aren't the Yankees. Unfortuantely, the Brewers have to take chances on prospects and can't buy solutions.
  13. Minor League Experts: Would anyone have preferred Garrett Richards to either of pitchers (Hellweg or Pena)?
  14. Peralta, Thornburg, Fiers, Bradley, Jungmann, Hellweg, Pena...Looks like the makings of a decent rotation down the line. Just need 3 of 7 to pan out really to add to Gallardo.
  15. Something not to like about Pena: 2011: 155.2 IP, 161 H, 85 BB WHIP 1.58 Something to like about Pena: 2011: 155.2 IP, 183 Ks 2012: 114.1 IP, 111 Ks, 1.19 WHIP Progress...!
  16. Jeff Passan summed it up well in a tweet: Brewers traded Escobar, Odorizzi, Cain & Jeffress for 1 1/2 years of Greinke, Segura, Hellweg & Pena. We'll see.
  17. Looking through their Double AA team absolutely nobody on that pitching staff excites me. AT ALL.
  18. What a terrible deal this would be and way to sell low on Rickie. I'd be furious if this deal was what we got for Greinke.
  19. I will continue to hold out hope that the Brewers can trade Greinke + to the Braves for some combination of Teheran/Minor/Delgado. Don't really care what that combo is or really who the + is on our end. A Greinke/Hart for Teheran/Minor deal would be fine with me.
  20. It still makes complete sense for the Dodgers to deal for Aramis. Put Aramis at 3B and Hanley at SS, especially given the fact that Dee Gordon would most assuredly be a part of a deal for Aramis now given the presence of Hanley.
  21. I have been waiting for the Dodgers to emerge as a real contender for Greinke. I would imagine they would be interested in Greinke and Aramis as a combo but I am not sure they have the system to pull that off. I would be willing to do a Grienke & Aramis for Zach Lee, Dee Gordon & Allen Webster.
  22. Don't know if it is possible but I would take a deal of Delgado and Minor for Greinke and whatever other piece (K-Rod, Hart) the Braves would need to make that deal work. I understand Dempster for Delgado was the rumored deal with Chicago but I think if ATL traded for Greinke and immediately offered him a Hamels extension, the Brewers may be able to get a better deal. Just a thought.
  23. Has there been anything stating that Greinke rejected the contract extension offer? I know he confirmed the offer but haven't seen anything as to him rejecting it.
  24. Why cry? Unless I misudnerstood, Morosi indicated Greinke might re-sign. Couple that with a Ramirez trade to the Dodgers for Zach Lee or Eovaldi and I think that we would have the makings of an excellent rotation moving forward.
