  1. Agreed...however, he genuinely seems like a prime candidate for a change of scenery and given he would cost almost nothing, it would be worth it given our less than ideal 1B situation. While his career screams AAAA player, a flier on him would be better than Lyle Overbay or Carlos Lee.
  2. While I agree with you about feeling "safe" picking the Giants or the Braves to win 90 (I don't feel safe, but I am more than 50-50 they will) your prediction of 85 wins for the Brewers in the thread earlier means you must be pretty down on both the Giants and Braves. Just in my view: The Giants have averaged 90 wins for four years running now and they now have arguably the best lineup of those 4 years to match with their outstanding staff. Improvements by the Dodgers could limit their 90 win potential, but I think those could be matched by Arizona's potential downgrade. The Braves on the other hand have a lineup on par with or better than the Brewers and have a bullpen and starting rotation much stronger than the Brewers. Going into the season, I think the Braves are significantly better than the Brewers. This isn't to say the Brewers young SP won't be as good as they were late in 2012, just that the Braves SP are more known quantities going into 2013 and are good. I am definitely not trying to be a downer here, I just think you may be understimating the Giants and Braves.
  3. 84 wins gets you into the playoffs this year in the NL as the second Wild Card if they are right (Cards or Diamondbacks). That would shock me. As I see it right now, the Nationals, Braves, Dodgers, Giants are 90+ win teams, with the Reds, Cardinals, Brewers, Phillies, Diamondbacks and maybe the Pirates fighting for 85-90 wins themselves.
  4. I hear you SoCal, I just don't think the type of aging/regression you speak of is likely or possible. Hart & Ramirez would have to regress to a point not seen in their careers for this to be a 70 win team. I don't think Hart is a good candidate for this yet as he is only going to be 31 and it is doubtful Ramirez will fall completely off the cliff even at 35. Injuries for sure could make this a 70 win team, but even with career worst seasons from everyone in the lineup, I still think this is a 75 win team at rock bottom.
  5. I agree with a majority of this post, I just don't agree with the Brewers low end prediction. Even if the rotation implodes, the worst I can see the Brewers being with this offense is a 77 win team. If the rotation pitches to its talent level, I could very easily see a 91 win team. Given the 14 win differential, the Brewers definitely have a wide range in what they could be. I for one feel like they will split the difference and be more towards the good hence the 86 win prediction I made earlier.
  6. Record: 86-76 Division: 2nd All Stars: Braun, Weeks, Lucroy Disappointments: Ramirez Series: Nationals -Tigers
  7. I am probably crazy but I would like to see what a change of scenery could do for LaPorta. It wouldn't cost much and I would gladly take a flier on him.
  8. Seconded. Assuming the hitting comes close to matching last season's production, this 2013 season is about seeing what we have with our young pitching and seeing how far they can take us. If Estrada, Peralta, Fiers and Rogers are who they were in 2012, the Brewers should be in the hunt for 87-92 wins and make the NL Central a 3 team race instead of the perceived Reds-Cardinals race.
  9. I love Yo but I don't think I would sign him to anything north of Weaver's deal (5 years $85mm). If he is willing to re-sign for that I say keep him. If he wants 5 years, $100+, I say trade him after the season.
  10. FTC: This may be the most compelling argument for me that Braun is telling the truth. Every other player has denied Bosch except Braun. Why admit a relationship if you're Braun and Braun's team if it isn't true? Either Braun is telling the truth or he is so beyond confident in his lying abilities that he has begun to believe the lie himself. I find it more likely to be the former than the latter.
  11. This seems like a legitimately rational explanation. Lets hope it's true
  12. This is a very good point. Why isn't he mentioned in the newspaper's initial report then?
  13. If this is true, perhaps this is what triggered his positive test during the 2011 playoffs. I still can't imagine he would be this dumb but man....If this is true, as much as I absolutely love Braun, I would boo him out of Miller Park. I have no tolerance for cheating.

  15. I was waiting for this dlk9s. Thanks for reminding me of my "hate" for this player. While I don't wish injury on anyone, I have to say that my reaction to not seeing him on the field in 2013 and potentially for the rest of my life is...Good riddance.
  16. Norris is the exact kind of player I would target if I were Melvin if I were to make a move to acquire a SP before Spring Training. Under contract until after the 2015 season, exceptionally talented and hasn't quite put it all together just yet but if he does...Whoa. #2 potential. I as well wonder what it would take to get him, but I'd be happy to trade one of our young SP (Bradley perhaps) and maybe a C. Gindl or K. Davis type for him.
  17. My ideal uniform for the Brewers would be just to simplify the uniform and go with a chest logo on the home jersey, similar to what the Yankees, Nationals, & Cubs do currently or like the ball and glove finalist in the YOUniform contest. I would prefer the ball and glove, but even if they stuck with the current M with barley look, I think that would be a better looking home jeresy than what they currently have. But I also concur RD45, please lose the metallic shiny gold either way. Royal blue and yellow of the ball and glove or navy blue and yellow with the m and barley would look better. As a side, can they please incorporate the barrelman arm patch as designed in the winning YOUniform? That is an awesome patch. Way better than http://thirdcoastdigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Brewers_logo.jpg
  18. Agreed. This would be the equivalent of us having brought back Nyjer Morgan to be our 5th OF, while we already have a Nyjer clone in Schafer. I don't see anything that Overbay will bring to the team that Gamel doesn't already bring.
  19. Barring us signing Greinke, I think this offseason has gone about as well as can be reasonably expected. 1. Re-built bullpen. Gorzelanny, Gonzalez and Badenhop. Check 2. Backup SS to mentor Segura. Check 3. Most importantly, didn't waste money on an overpriced FA pitcher like Dempster (Still crossing my fingers on Lohse). Check. Add a power pinch hitting RH and I think the Brewers offseason, while relatively quiet, should be considered an enormous success, save Hart's knee.
  20. Since when are Ramirez and Gonzalez 1B?? Combined they have had all of 0 GP there in their MLB careers. I understand 1B isn't the most difficult position to play in baseball but its still an unnecessary adjustment when you have a Gamel, Green and the likelihood of a Overbay/Carlos Lee on the roster. I just don't get it.
  21. Interesting lineup that Fredi says he will use: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8895112/justin-upton-atlanta-braves-bat-third-team-lineup-manager-fredi-gonzalez-says SS Simmons RF Heyward LF J Upton CF BJ Upton C McCann 1B Freeman 2B Uggla 3B Johnson/Francisco I don't like the non-split of the LH in the middle, nor do I like BJ Upton at cleanup. I think I would be more inclined to move BJ to #2, Heyward to #3, JUp to #4 and figuring a way to split McCann and Freeman by putting Uggla between them. Either way, this lineup is going to strike out a TON.
  22. I believe Ryan Braun. Let me say that straight out. However, this is the scariest part of the article to me. The best news about the whole article is that by the time this guy Bosch opened Colonial Services or Biogenesis in 2009, Ryan Braun was long removed from Miami and the U of M baseball program. Still too close to home for me.
  23. I love this move but I see good and bad in it. The good: Gonzalez will be an excellent backup for SS. Good glove, still has some pop and is a better option than Bianchi for 2013. He's great insurance in the event Segura struggles. HOWEVER... The bad: Will RR be tempted to play him and relegate Segura to the bench? Great signing but definitely makes a little nervous because I want to see Segura play everyday.
  24. This is so well-said. Bravo. Seconded...and I am one of those fans who is ecstatic we made it to the NLCS. We have been starving for a winner for so long that even scraps tastes like filet mignon.
  25. Someone had to do it... http://manginphotography.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/8S8H2617-467x575.jpg
