  1. Arcia is going to be the new Hernan Perez. A guy where we all get frustrated because he is playing far more than he should
  2. Two years ago? So you're saying we should have traded Hader after winning the most games in the NL & missing the World Series by one game against the Dodgers in 2018? Who would you have dealt him for that both kept the team competitive over the next two seasons & better positioned us for 2021 forward? I think this is a really good response to the original post. The starting OF was Cain-Yelich-Braun, the IF was Shaw-Arcia-Moose-Aguilar/Thames and the rotation featured Chacin, Miley, Chase Anderson, Guerra and Davies. I am not sure who the Brewers could have possibly dealt to rebuild short of blowing up the dynamic bullpen of Burnes, Hader and Knebel. Plus, who would've thought that Shaw and Aguilar would forget how to hit in 2019, while Cain regressed substantially from 2018 and they would still make the playoffs in 2019?
  3. Like everyone else, I agree. The Brewers astronomical ask is why I think Gore is the ask and why Hader remains in Milwaukee.
  4. Based on Baseball Reference: Pre-2017: Diaz: Baseball America #93, MLB.com #65, Baseball Prospectus #59 Harrison: Not ranked Brinson: BA #27, MLB.com #18, Baseball Prospectus #12 Pre-2018: Diaz: Not ranked Harrison: BA #75, MLB.com #71, Baseball Prospectus #49 Brinson: BA #18, MLB.com #27, Baseball Prosepctus #18 I think you can say legit three Top 100 prospects and a interesting pitching prospect for Yelich. Marlins had to feel good about the return at the time. Can’t fault it at all.
  5. Precisely. If the Brewers were offered the current day equivalent of Brinson, Harrison, Diaz and Yamamoto for Hader, Hader would be on the next flight out of Milwaukee. For fun, what would the equivalent of that actually be from SD? Have to be something like Luis Campusano, Robert Hassell, Ryan Weathers, and a lottery ticket?
  6. My guess if Wong gets injured is that Urias would move to second with Arcia at SS. Urias came up as a second baseman, so he'd probably be the long-term solution. Otherwise, I'd think that Robertson or Arcia should be able to fill in there for a day here-and-there. I had not thought of this. You are 100% right. Urias still might be the long-term 2B if Wong leaves after his contract is up after 2022 or 2023 (if the team option is exercised). Even if it is after 2023, Urias will still only be heading into his age 27(!) season in 2024. That kid is young.
  7. Option #1 and I wouldn't let them off the phone until the deal was finalized and announced.
  8. This is unfortunate. You always want to win a trade and not regret the pieces you traded away but the Brewers got a franchise icon for 4 guys who look like they may AAAA players. While I definitely thought Harrison and Yamamoto were not likely to be much at the MLB level (Harrison struck out too much and Yamamoto ceiling was a #4 or #5), Brinson and Diaz I thought were going to be Mike Cameron and Rickie Weeks types. It's not over but it's not looking likely.
  9. I pretty much agree. Shaw/Robertson platoon at third base. Urias starting at SS. Arcia the Utility guy, who can now also play some outfield if needed. I think Vogelbach will probably be gone, and they'll keep someone like McKinney because he's a lefty with more versatility (corner OF/1B). I don't know what to think as of yet when it comes to Robertson, Arcia, and Vogelbach. I think Shaw will be the 3B and likely will start 75% of the time, same with Urias at SS. The issue I keep coming back to is who is the backup 2B to Wong (Hiura? Robertson?) and at 1B (Shaw with Robertson/Arcia starting at 3B?). I don't expect to see Arcia play much of anywhere other than SS (just my hunch) so that leaves Roberston as the backup at 3B and 2B. Assuming an everyday lineup of Yelich-Cain-Garcia-Shaw-Urias-Wong-Hiura-Narvaez, that leaves Arcia, Robertson, Pina, one or two of Taylor-Fisher-McKinney, as the bench. I have a hard time envisioning a spot for Vogelbach on this roster right now unless they want a Matt Stairs-like power bat PH.
  10. Insulting was my word and May have been a bit harsh when I posted it. My point really is that Arcia isn’t some elite bat you have to find a spot for like Hiura. The Brewers should be playing a legitimate OF like Taylor, McKinney, Fisher or Ray before playing Arcia in CF.
  11. I read the article and if that’s all that is being offered (27 year old Cronenworth and a decent reliever) I am holding Hader until FA.
  12. No one is going to trade for Arcia because he tried playing some CF. Amen. If Arcia hasn’t cut it at SS for 5 seasons, nobody is going to look at 40 innings in CF and say AH HA we need that guy on our team. It’s so obviously transparent (and idiotic) for the Brewers to try him in CF that it’s almost insulting.
  13. I love the Brewers' desire for players with positional versatility but this type of thing is getting a bit old for me. They literally have Taylor, McKinney, Fisher, Ray, etc. who should see CF before Arcia ever plays there. It's not as if one of those guys as a 4th OF is going to be significantly worse offensively than Arcia 1-2 days a week, that he needs to be in CF. This may only be for BREAK IN CASE OF EMERGENCY but it is reported as if we should expect to see a starting lineup in May that includes an OF of Yelich-Arcia-Garcia while Cain needs a day. That to me is inexplicably stupid.
  14. I tend to agree with this but not because of Hader specifically. Rather, the trade of Hader is really the only legitimate piece the Brewers have to build up some semblance of an elite prospect, be it an individual like Gore, or multiple Top 100 prospects. I am all about prolonging the window of opportunity for the Brewers and, right now, that window could be extended by a trade of Hader, even if it hurts the bullpen in the short term.
  15. You nailed it. It’s why Hader will remain a Brewer forever or until he leaves via FA. Brewers astronomical asking price won’t be met.
  16. Going back to the discussion from last night about what a deal might look like with San Diego for Hader. Given the long reported Brewers asking price for Hader as "astronomical" AND the fact they are seemingly perfectly content to hold Hader unless blown away by an offer, I have to imagine that any deal for Hader would require Chris Paddack or MacKenzie Gore. Believe me, I get all of the following arguments: "Hader is a reliever and relievers shouldn't cost that much" "They didn't trade the top prospects for Snell, Darvish, or Musgrove, they aren't going to for Hader" "Brewers fans overvaluing their own trade asset" I get it and understand the sentiment. However, go back to how Hader has been rumored to be dealt for years and is still in Milwaukee. Reading those tea leaves tells me it is going to take something "astronomical" like Paddack or Gore + a 15-20 range prospect for Hader or some combination of Major League-talent like Campusano, Morejon, and Weathers for Hader. Are any of the aforementioned realistic? No. Not even close. Not likely. But that is why Hader hasn't been dealt and why I continue to be skeptical he ever will be. (Side note: A Brewer fan could really dream on a Top 3 in the rotation of Woodruff-Burnes-Paddack/Gore for the next 5 years)
  17. One of the most popular sports radio stations in San Diego. Acee is Padres beat writer for San Diego Union-Tribune. Here is the gross proposal that caused me to shut down Twitter last night.
  18. Taylor...Or Fisher...Or McKinney. As Monty points out, Taylor is the likely candidate and I wouldn't be all that unhappy with him as the fourth OF. I think he could provide a similar slash line to Bradley, without the power, and 75-80% of the defense for almost $10m less. My fear is signing Bradley and limiting the Brewers ability in the middle of the season or next offseason to trade for or sign someone with a larger salary.
  19. Saw one last night that said 36-year old Craig Stammen and $$ to buy down the level of prospects coming back to the Brewers. I immediately closed down Twitter after that.
  20. I did not say Campusano isn’t a stud. I said he isn’t the prospect I would hold out for.
  21. I am not sure the Brewers really line up for the Padres any longer with the prospects they have left as headliners. I doubt Mackenzie Gore is available. I don’t see any Major Leaguers that are young enough or close enough to the Majors and prospect-y enough to warrant being the headliner. Campusano, while a stud, wouldn’t be the headliner I would be holding out for. I don’t think this is real but watch it be Campusano, Morejon for Hader.
  22. Yeah, I don't know what happened to him. He was seriously progressing to becoming a star, at worst a high end 3rd baseman. Every metric was improving and suddenly he lost the ability to make contact. Initially I thought maybe the league caught up and found a hole in his swing, but he was having the issue in Spring training already. So I have to believe he changed something in his swing/mechanics/timing or had some sort of vision change. I remember reading something about Shaw around Spring Training 2019 changing his swing as a result of the launch angle revolution. Maybe Yelich's big out-of-nowhere 2018 convinced him to do the same. Hopefully, he can remember who he is and that 2017-2018 swing and recapture 75% of the past glory. Shaw mentions swing changing in 2019 due to launch angle revolution in McCalvy's article today: https://www.mlb.com/brewers/news/travis-shaw-returns-to-brewers Hopefully, he continues the progress he showed in 2020.
  23. Without taking into account the clubhouse and leadership angle (which with Cain is enormous IMO), this trade might actually make some sense. The Brewers get out from the contract and gain someone who could theoretically be the 3B of the future, even though he is already 27 this year. Sign JBJ to fill in for Cain in CF. I wouldn't do it because of Cain's value outside of the foul lines, but I could understand the rationale.
  24. I tend to believe with the interest leaked and JBJ not signed within a few hours after said leak, the Brewers will not be signing him.
  25. Cain next? Anyone that opted out last summer with a 60 game schedule would be a possibility with a 162 game schedule. Mistrust of the vaccine seems to be a real issue in the African American community. I've gotten the vaccine as a senior. It was about the same as a flu shot. It's a great feeling knowing I've got a high level of protection against this thing. I'll continue to wear a mask in public, but I just don't get the reluctance. Getting the vaccine is liberating. There was a disturbing report that up to 70% of African American athletes will refuse to get vaccinated. That just exacerbates the problem. Cain is in camp based on the Brewers official Instagram page. Their last story post showed Cain in the cage.
