  1. Purely my own speculation, but I believe that if the Dodgers truly wanted him, he'd be a Dodger by now. Completely agree with this take. This isn't the Brewers and Braun, where he is contemplating retirement. Turner obviously wants to play. There is no reason to think the Dodgers couldn't just sign him unless he is their backup plan e.g. Kris Bryant or Jose Ramirez trade.
  2. The hardest part for me to rationalize in the Turner saga is the winning in 2021 but at the cost of 2022 and 2023. I think it will take 3 years $39 or so million to get him to Milwaukee for his age 36, 37, & 38 seasons and, if he signs, the Brewers are not only the favorite but are quite likely (75%+ IMO) to win the 2021 NL Central. The tricky part is I could see his contract becoming hard to stomach by midseason 2022 and an albatross in 2023. The question I have is what would the financial impact be on re-signing or extending Woodruff, Burnes, Hader, and Hiura or being able to address other deficiencies in the lineup.
  3. If Turner does decide to come to Milwaukee, this an amazingly clever nickname play on Turner and the Brewers. Gotta believe that merchandise would sell quite quickly.
  4. For all those wanting to give Justin Turner a 3 year deal, he is only 1 year younger than Ryan Braun. Not saying it's a good idea or a bad one to sign him, just providing some perspective as to his age.
  5. As a father of two young girls under 3, as well as someone who is currently having to come into the office every single day during the pandemic, I get the pull to stay home, especially during this time. Still though...Ryan Braun Forever. Would be a true bummer for him to not go out to Miller Park/AmFam Field and get the standing ovation from a sold out stadium.
  6. I think this is it. I think it actually plays to Milwaukee's favor, as LA really has no need to do so. The Dodgers are smartly run, and the smart play for them is to go with a guy like Rios rather than paying gobs of money to Turner. But if the Mets are in play, they also have far less financial constraints and seem far more likely to me than the Dodgers to go 3 years on Turner if it requires it just to get it done. As currently constructed, that Mets team could be absolute butchers in the field with Dom Smith having to play LF (Alonso at 1B), JD Davis at 3B, and Jose Martinez on the roster.
  7. This is a great summary of the difference between a Moose type player and Urias/Robertson. While I like the reliability and track record of Moose and his power, in 4,700 PA his career AVG/OBP is .251/.310. Urias in 422 PA is .226/.315 and Robertson in 855 PA is .234/.342. A more patient approach and taking walks appears to be the way the Brewer FO is trending and I applaud the approach, even it sacrifices the HR.
  8. Burnes should not be dealt unless it is a MASSIVE and unrealistic overpay. Vaughn has been my target all along for Hader but I doubt they have interest now that they signed Hendriks.
  9. Amen to this. I would take a team of double hitters/high OBP guys like Lyle Overbay or Jeff Cirillo over the sexier HR or nothing approach. Put another way, if the everyday lineup can produce Yelich 30+ HR, Hiura 25-30, Garcia and Narvaez 15-20 HR, Cain, Wong & Arcia 10-15, and Urias 8-10, I think there will be enough pop given the OBP factor and more people SHOULD be on base when those HRs do come.
  10. I couldn’t agree more with this sentiment. Ultimately, you want to pay as little as possible (see Cardinals and Arenado) but most of the time, the deal will help and hurt at the same time (see Yelich trade which depleted the system despite most not turning out yet). If the Cardinals offered the best package for Hader, and it made sense for the Brewers long term, by all means trade him there.
  11. With this inter-divisional trade, you’re saying there is a chance the Cubs trade Kris Bryant to the Brewers for Avisail Garcia?
  12. That Moose deal was bad from the onset with Suarez in Cincinnati. Gotta think they would move that contract if they could. Moose for Garcia? Edit: That Moose deal is awful. 3 years $52m(!) left on it. $48 in salary, $4 in buyout. They’d have to kick in serious money to make that Garcia deal.
  13. Would like him as the 4th OF. Not as much as the backup 1B. Good eye at plate. Seems like Brewers are FINALLY targeting high OBP guys.
  14. Baseball has forever been broken. Why is it any surprise to anyone that MLB is third in terms of popularity to the NFL and NBA? Garbage league run by garbage people and the players Union is worse. You're going to need to show your work if you somehow come to the conclusion that the Players Union is "worse" than the billionaire ownership and the league office that operates to advance the interests of those owners. My point is solely about the competitive playing field. You think it is coincidence that Giannis stays with the Bucks and Rodgers stays with the Packers? If the Brewers had Mike Trout, he’d have been gone once he hit FA. See Fielder, P. as evidence. It’s why MLB continues to get lapped by the well run NFL and NBA.

  16. The fact that it was mentioned on Twitter last night and didn’t immediately happen leads me to believe it will not. Seems like with the Brewers, once news is leaked, it almost immediately is confirmed. Not saying it won’t happen but that seems to be the usual.
  17. Ryan Braun Forever. Bring him back.
  18. My best guess to get him to Milwaukee is 3 years $39-$45 million. I don’t think the Dodgers will give him the third year but will offer 2 years and $30 million. Brewers essentially have to offer 1 more year and $9-$15 million more.
  19. While not a total bounce back, I would have no issue bringing Shaw back on a minimum minor league deal to be in the mix at 3B and a backup at 1B. His slash in 2020 of .239/.306/.717 is pretty close to Robertson's career slash in Tampa (.231/.340/.692). An invite to Spring Training is a no-risk proposition to me.
  20. Links are always helpful/encouraged! https://www.brewcrewball.com/2021/2/4/22264134/milwaukee-brewers-free-agent-target-mike-foltynewicz Article doesn't mention the Brewers as attending the workout, just a potential target.
  21. Haudricourt article announcing Wong in JS implies Cain is in for 2021.
  22. Interesting to note the A's had 0 Top 100 prospects on the MLB.com list that recently came out and they also had only 1 on The Athletic's and that was an injured AJ Puk. Adding a top 100 OF in Mitchell, SS in Turang and recent 2B in Hiura (more likely DH I know), might entice them for their next window. Flip Hader for additional prospects as well and they can rebuild that system relatively quickly. This is all pure speculation on my part but a team like the A's DESPERATELY needs a good farm system given how cheap that ownership is.
  23. Who the A's replace them with isn't our issue. They seem to do better with scrub FAs than most. They can sign Gyorko and Cron for all I care. Two top 100 prospects, plus Hiura, plus the best reliever in baseball is not an insignificant offer. As for the Brewers, Chapman and Olson aren't FAs until after 2023. Yelich turns 32 in December 2023 or the likely end of his elite years. The proposed trade would be solely about going for it with Yelich still in his prime and Woodruff and Burnes still under contract (both through 2024).
  24. I am not in love with Dominic Smith but I would love to get my hands on Jeff McNeil. He just screams professional hitter ala Paul Molitor, Jeff Cirillo, Mark Loretta. Hader and Hiura feels a little steep to me given Hiura is 4 years younger than McNeil and could, in time, develop into that professional hitter type. Perhaps a Hader, Hiura, Lutz for McNeil, Smith and Nimmo trade. That feels more in line to me.
  25. With Wong in the fold, let's get wild and revisit what I posted above. Would this deal get any traction with the A's: Keston Hiura, Josh Hader, Garrett Mitchell and Brice Turang for Matt Chapman and Matt Olson Without getting into analysis of the fairness of the deal for either side or long term implications of depleting the farm, a lineup of Cain-Yelich-Chapman-Olson-Garcia-Narvaez-Wong-Urias sure looks sexy on paper. No because why acquire Hader and lose to better everyday players for a questionable-defenseless Hiura? Because I am operating under the assumption the A's are about to have to turn these guys over given the increases they are both due as soon as 2022 in terms of salary. They get two Top 100 prospects, a lesser bat than Olson and Chapman but a controllable bat with significant potential and the top reliever in baseball (who they could theoretically flip at midseason for more prospects). Not saying it is likely but I don't think it's grossly one-sided or unreasonable to think the A's would be selling them off before they become very expensive.
