  1. Independent of need, is signing JBJ to a potential ~2-3 year $8-$10m annually contract a good move? I mean the defense is certainly quite good, but the offense is quite meh. 2018-2020, in 1159 PAs, he has an OPS+ of 95 with the following slash .238/.324/.742 41 HR, 143 RBI. Over the same time period, in 1122 PAs, Avisail Garcia has an OPS+ of 100 with a slash of .258/.315/.745 41 HR, 136 RBI. We essentially have JBJ on the roster already with worse D. Is that better D worth $8-$10m? I doubt it. I guess I am not overly excited about the signing and think the resources could be spent better elsewhere.
  2. With the type of player the Brewers are bringing in this offseason, Vogelbach is beginning to feel like a very square peg for a round hole. Wong, JBJ, Shaw, all very good defenders at their position. While you could make the argument about Hiura being a poor defender, an elite hitting prospect, even without a position, isn't going anywhere. If they bring back the DH, then maybe? But I have to think if the DH is brought back, Ryan Braun will be on the next plane to Maryvale. Have to believe Big Dan is destined for a new team or for Triple AAA as depth.
  3. I see this mostly as Garcia being gone post-2021, Cain in the last year of his contract, being 36 and likely needing to move off of CF, an absence of OF prospects knocking on the door and the Brewers becoming a pitching and defense team (the BREWERS!).
  4. This would be...odd? I understand upgrading the D and having Cain, Wong, Arcia and JBJ would be an unreal defensive team. But leads one to believe that Avisail would be jettisoned ASAP.
  5. While the statements in and of themselves are just bad (without going deeper) and deserve significant punishment, I think my concern as the Mariners owner with the statement would be the impact of credibility as an already forgotten organization. We haven't made the playoffs in 20 years and now our President is attacking our two best prospects that could help lead us there. More importantly, it appears to be for no greater reason than one declining a contract extension and the other not having English as a first language. Pretty gross leadership.
  6. He should be fired if the owner of the team decides he should be fired, not because a bunch of loud and salty fans think he should be fired. That said, this is definitely a really bad look and gives kelenic real ammunition for his inevitable grievance in a few years. It's also going to be that much more difficult to bring talent to Seattle. All things equal, I think a player will probably choose to play for a different front office. Seattle will probably have to pay a premium while this guy is around. And there's some stuff in there that's racially insensitive at the very least. I have a much bigger problem with that stuff than his admitting to service time manipulation. I would definitely like to see him face consequences from those comments and learn something from them. Interesting response. You basically defend his comments from loud and salty fans but then make the case more forcefully than I did for him to be fired.
  7. This is just plain stupid. The Mariners have the longest running streak of not making the playoffs in the four major sports and they appear to be rounding the corner to being good again. This tarnishes a lot of the shine. This guy should be fired tomorrow.
  8. Seriously...these responses need to just be ignored. Guy has kept his head down for a decade. Move on man.
  9. Without going all Favre Watch: Read further down in the comments. Mrs. Braun responds to a poster who asked if she could share Ryan a little so we can hear his name as a Brewer one last time. Mrs. Braun's response: "Happy to do that if/when the time comes :)" See you in RF on Opening Day Ryan.
  10. As much as we all tend to love Jeffress, I think that ship has sailed. In 2020, that 1.54 ERA was masked by a 4.09 FIP and 4.69 xFIP. I think I'm just a sucker for redemption archs LOL. Oh don't get me wrong, I am too. I am over the moon about Travis Shaw being back. Nothing I am rooting harder for individually on the team in 2021 than a return to something resembling 2017-2018 Shaw.

  12. A 7th-8th-9th of Rosenthal-Williams-Hader would have been amazing. However, not $11m worth of amazing. I know there is no such thing as a bad one-year deal but that $11m may (MAY!) have inhibited the Crew from taking on salary at the Trade Deadline, assuming they are buyers.
  13. I just realized Vogelbach is wearing #21 and that was Shaw's old number. Winner of the Spring Training battle gets #21?
  14. Yeah, I don't know what happened to him. He was seriously progressing to becoming a star, at worst a high end 3rd baseman. Every metric was improving and suddenly he lost the ability to make contact. Initially I thought maybe the league caught up and found a hole in his swing, but he was having the issue in Spring training already. So I have to believe he changed something in his swing/mechanics/timing or had some sort of vision change. I remember reading something about Shaw around Spring Training 2019 changing his swing as a result of the launch angle revolution. Maybe Yelich's big out-of-nowhere 2018 convinced him to do the same. Hopefully, he can remember who he is and that 2017-2018 swing and recapture 75% of the past glory.
  15. I completely agree with this statement. If the Brewers went out and traded for the 1B or 3B equivalent of Urias this offseason (top 25 prospect in MLB in 2019 who was hurt in 2020), can you imagine how excited people would be about his breakout potential? It reminds me of Anthony Rizzo, who also was a top 50 prospect pre-2012, who was absolute garbage in San Diego in 2011 in 153 PAs: AVG: .141 OBP: .281 SLG: .242 OPS: .523 I am not saying Urias at SS is going to be as good as Rizzo at 1B. I am saying not everyone starts their career like Ryan Braun, and as B4U mentioned, Urias had a wrist injury and COVID. Let's give him at least half of a healthy season before we make some judgment on him. He was top 25 for a reason.
  16. Someone call up Ryan Braun and get him back in Milwaukee. Gotta run back 6/8 of the 2018 NLCS lineup this year: CF Cain RF Yelich LF Braun 3B Shaw C Piña SS Arcia
  17. As a fan, I get wanting to go trade for Matt Chapman or Jose Ramirez or hope we sign Justin Turner. The reality is that we would get outbid in terms of prospects for the first two and money (and the lure of home and legacy) for the last one. Your options are Shaw, Lamb, Gyorko, Franco, Frazier...and they have already stated they were going to give time to Urias. Robertson has the most remaining upside of the group mentioned and Shaw is insurance against him bombing. Reality is any of those other guys can likely be had via trade for a lottery ticket prospect come June if Urias, Robertson and Shaw are all bombing. My solution was trading for Arenado and paying him and Yelich a combined $50m per year for the next 6 years. That is unfortunately not reality in MLB economics. What was the realistic 3B that would have made people happy?
  18. Who would you prefer as a LHH 3B? Eddie Mathews
  19. Sounds "significant"
  20. I believe you mean our CF for Game 3 of the NLCS.
  21. Craig Counsell's response to Haudicrout about 3B: Sure does sound like Urias is being looked at as the main guy at SS. With that being said, I do not believe they are done adding at 3B. You cannot go into the season with Robertson as the main option with Arcia as the fallback.
  22. How is it possible to play as much baseball as Fisher has, become a top prospect, and be so awful in the OF? Those plays aren't exactly the most challenging that OF face (e.g. line drive right at you, diving catch away from the batter's box). Hopefully, he spends A LOT of time with Cain during ST.
  23. https://www.mercurynews.com/2021/02/12/how-giants-fan-bryan-stow-has-turned-his-trauma-into-a-message-for-thousands-of-kids/ Bryan Stow...10 years ago already. To think that someone would do this over a baseball game is absolutely beyond comprehension for me.
  24. This forum would burn to the ground if Mitchell and Small were traded for Candelario. He showed a breakout possibility last year but he still has a career line of .235/.326/.721 slash in 1367 PAs and is already 27. No thanks. You would rather put a SS at 3B? I'd rather go with Urias, Robertson, Gyorko, Franco, Shaw, Lamb...all players that either on the roster or currently available. More importantly, they don't cost the Brewers 2 of their top 5 prospects from an already weak system.
