  1. The last time a Chicago reporter tweeted something this good was when Roenicke was hired. Please be right Rogers.
  2. If he is signed to a 3year $10MM+ deal, I cannot honestly picture a more realistic nightmare scenario 2011 Brewers offseason. I'd rather empty the top layers of the farm system and get a Garza than have this happen. Thinking of the everyday lineup, assuming Weeks is re-signed for a few years, there wouldn't be a free agent until when? Braun is signed through '15, Hart was just extended, McGehee isn't arby-eligble, Cain/Lucroy/Escobar were all rookies last year and Gamel would be a rookie this year. We don't really need hitting high level hitting prospects right now. We do need pitching. Good pitching. Not a $10MM+ #4. We just got rid of one of those. Having a Garza would allow for us to have yet another player under contract for multiple years.
  3. Man...Will there ever be a day where EVERY MLB has the ability to sign two guys to the contracts GOnzalez and Crawford just got?? How did this sport get so far out of touch from the NFL and NBA?
  4. Didn't do the research but I'd be curious to see what Pavano's was from 2009 in the Metrodome to 2010 in Target Field. His ERA dropped an entire run from 2009 to 2010.
  5. True but given their situation and the little I know about their farm system, it seems they have more pitching prospects than hitting prospects. I would think they may be open to this if it meant getting a re-signed 40-50HR hitter like Fielder. Reversing the situation, if the Brewers had 22 year old Prince Fielder coming up now with this team and the Orioles had a true ace in a contract year, I wouldn't think we would flinch at making the deal. Think CC-LaPorta.
  6. And I'd like to add Pavano is all of 14 months removed from leading the American League in most earned runs against. As in he gave up the most earned runs in the AL in 2009.
  7. I'll second this notion. I could write all day about how bad of a move this would be but I'll save you all from that. Simply looking at it from a fans perspective, I don't see how one can be ecstatic or even mildly happy about this signing. He's Dave Bush except we could probably sign two Bushes for what one Pavano costs. This makes no sense.
  8. Just out of curiosity, how does Pavano's numbers over his career (save for last season) make you think he is "much better" than Suppan?
  9. Matusz should not be considered untouchable if Fielder were to be extended by the Orioles prior to the deal being finalized
  10. Glad to see I'm not alone in my pining for JJ to still be our SS.
  11. If Baltimore is the trade partner AND if Prince is open to extending, per Boras, and is given a 72-hour window to do so AND they reach an agreement, I would start with Brian Matusz. For a re-signed slugger for 7 years, I believe Matusz is fair game.
  12. I'll scream if Pavano is signed. From the reports, we'd have to sign him to a Suppan-esque deal. Not only is he 3 years older than Suppan was when we signed him; he has nowhere near the track record of Suppan (never thought I'd say that)...Suppan was coming off 4.19 or less ERAs in the previous 4 seasons before we signed him. Pavano has done that 3 times TOTAL in his career (2000, 2004, 2010) and as has been mentioned previously, 2004 and 2010 were contract years. Surprise surprise. I'm a Melvin supporter and even I agree he should be fired on the spot for even considering this.
  13. Puns coming: Haudricourt just tweeted Boras told him Fielder is open to extension talks. It's still just amazing to me to think that someone is willing to pass up the opportunity to be the next Robin Yount in Milwaukee for a few million more per year, with the examples of LeBron, Favre, A-Rod, etc... in the world. I guess being one of the many "princes" in New York, Boston, Los Angeles instead of being the "King" in Milwaukee is worth the extra millions.
  14. I'm with you that it's too steep. I think I would change my mind if the brewers were given a negotiating window to extend Greinke though.Fantastic point. An extended Greinke for 4 additional years may be worth the upper level prospects of Jeffress/Rogers/Cain and the lower level stud Odorizzi. Having 3/5 of a rotation locked in with Gallardo and Greinke and I would assume eventually Marcum does wonders for stability.
  15. Red Sox...because of how Yankee fans treated his wife in the ALCS. If I was Lee I would've made the phone call to the Red Sox myself and said what can you do for me. That's where I would go (all things being equal) to stick it to them on a yearly basis after that incident.
  16. I'm always a little surprised when I turn on Cardinals games and the players in the bullpen and on the bench aren't dressed in suits.
  17. Once Prince is dealt, I am firmly in support of moving Rickie to #3 and Braun to #4.
  18. I want this deal to get done but I am not comfortable with trading Cain AND Gamel without some sort of corresponding deal of Fielder to fill those holes. If Cain and Gamel are part of a trade for Garza, CF would be manned by Gomez/Dickerson (yuck) and whatever happens with Fielder will create a hole at 1B, even if its 2012 before that occurs.
  19. I think his replacement could come from a subsequent Fielder deal. I'd begin exploring Fielder straight up for Matt Kemp ASAP or if Gamel is included in a Cain deal, Fielder+ for Kemp/Loney.
  20. Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune reporting too. "Matt" cain = Mat"t" Gamel & Lorenzo "Cain" ?
  21. I will offer to drive Cain and Jeffress to Tampa personally if Matt Garza can be had. I'd try to hang onto Gamel to play a corner IF position because, and I'll continue to beat the dead horse, it opens up so much more possibilities to trade Fielder for bats then.
  22. If true, what is the best deal we could realistically expect out of each of the three? I still think acquiring legitimate MLB or MLB-ready bats for Fielder isn't the worst thing in the world if Cain can be packaged and flipped for a Marcum-like SP. Could Billingsley be available now that Padilla has been re-signed? Or is it realistic to maybe grab Kemp/Loney for Fielder/McGehee?
  23. Thought about this over lunch, would either team be willing to do a Cain/Braddock for Jurrjens? I struggled to answer whether or not I would do this, which tells me this may be a very fair deal. In the event the Brewers could pull this off, the supposedly never discussed deal of Loney/Broxton for Fielder may make more sense. I'm starting to think Melvin will be burning the lines to deal something other than Fielder to get SP. Once that occurs, meaning a Cain/Braddock for Jurrjens, Prince could then be dealt for hitting.
  24. With Gallardo and Marcum both being #2s, Wolf being a #3 and Narveson being an iffy #5, the Crew needs to at the least bring in someone on par with a #3/Wolf. A guy like Jurrjens would fit the profile for me, a low to mid end #2 or strong #3.
  25. It is this line of thinking that I believe should be the Brewers mantra when it comes to FA SP this offseason. If Pavano commands the 3yr/$33MM as has been speculated, I would much rather take my chances on one year fliers with incentives with multiple guys like Capuano and Harden. I can't imagine Melvin getting sucked into another Suppan deal when there are less risky solutions that won't handicap the team in the event the Hardens or Capuanos don't work out.
