  1. Why would Woodruff be in scenario A but not scenario B? My bad. I deleted a part of my post accidentally. Leake AND a Wheeler/Ray type would help carry the Crew until Woodruff came back. Wheeler/Ray, Anderson, Gio, Davies and Leake is decent. The problem is removing Wheeler/Ray and substituting Lyles or Houser (who is better in the pen) for them.
  2. Leake as a #5 behind Woodruff, Wheeler/Ray, Gio and Anderson is fine. The problem is getting that Wheeler or Ray type. A rotation of Anderson, Davies, Leake, Houser and Lyles just isn't good enough and the Brewers will fade.
  3. Fully expect this to get done and be completed underwhelmed.
  4. I want to win as much as the next guy but what gives you any modicum of confidence that the 2019 Brewers can compete with the Dodgers, Yankees or Astros? Heck maybe even the Nationals or Braves. 2018 Brewers were amazing and talented and played such good baseball. The inconsistency of the 2019 Brewers will not be solved by trading for Syndergaard or Wheeler or whoever else. Unfortunately this team will be better served by standing pat and hoping that the players that carried them to a game from the World Series in 2018 rebound. Short of that, there is no trade that can solve the inconsistencies found in the 2019 version of the Brewers.
  5. I would only deal Burnes if it is for a controllable young-ish starter. The only one who fits the bill for me that is known to be available is Syndergaard and I am even having a hard time with that one. Just for clarification, youre having a hard time seeing the value in trading corbin burnes for Thor? or youre having a hard time seeing anyone in their right mind thinking that is a remotely possible scenario? I’m having a hard time trading 5+ seasons of Burnes for 2+ years of Syndergaard. I love Thor but it wouldn’t just be Burnes. It would be additional significant pieces.
  6. Grisham has a little Michael Brantley to me. Wouldn't it be appropriate if he were dealt for a stud SP that carried us to the playoffs ala CC?

  8. I wonder what this could be?
  9. After all the rumors and sitting two days from the deadline, I think I am anticipating the Brewers making 3-4 deals. I think the Brewers won't land the big fish (Syndergaard, Wheeler, etc...) but will land multiple smaller fish in the hopes of catching lightning in a bottle. My anticipated acquisitions, with what I think the costs will be, are: -Danny Duffy from KC: 2 years $30.75m left on his contract. Royals will pick up some of the salary with a prospect like Troy Stokes being sent to KC. -Dylan Bundy from Baltimore: FA after 2021. I anticipate him costing a little more, someone like Trent Grisham. -Alex Colome from Chicago: Simply because he's a White Sox reliever and we know we have to get one of those annually. I think cost on him will be high. Corey Ray high. If everything comes together for the rotation, that could be a sexy rotation.
  10. I understand Freitas is hitting .370, but why not call up Nottingham and have him in a 70-30 or 60-40 timeshare with Pina?
  11. Take on all of Greinke and it might not be too crazy. I posed this on Twitter the other day. One stop shopping in Arizona: Zack Greinke, Robbie Ray and Archie Bradley If the Brewers could eat a substantial amount of the 2 years+ $80m+ left on Greinke's deal, might Arizona be willing to deal Ray and Bradley for a lesser prospect package. I still think it would cost Dubon, Ray and Lutz type package but, if the financials work, I think that trade immediately vaults the Brewers above the Cubs and Cardinals in the Central. A rotation that has a top 3 of Woodruff, Ray and Greinke would be real nice.
  12. I have been thinking this since the middle of May. Love Grandal's offense but I prefer Pina's defense behind the plate. I would be very in favor of dealing Grandal for SP.
  13. Two of our top 3 or 4 position players are free agents after the season. Yeah that’s accurate...to a point. In reality it’s our 3rd and 4th best position players are FAs. Additionally, I’m of the mind that Piña and Grandal are a lot closer given Grandal’s propensity for rather poor receiving. Optics over advanced stats.
  14. Something is up. Moose plays 3B daily and Hiura plays 2B daily. Shaw/Aguilar/Thames platoon doesn't sound plausible. Shaw in a soft platoon with Moose at 3B and Hiura at 2B doesn't sound likely either. For me, the most likely candidates to move are Thames (so Shaw platoons at 1B with his eventual transition there for 2020) or Hiura (moved for a TOR arm). Could point to a Aguilar to the Rays type deal. The Brewers can play Shaw at 1st. Kinda hurts the lineup vs lefties, but...there's that. And that’s why it has to be Thames or Hiura in my opinion. Brewers would be susceptible to LHP with Shaw and Thames in that 1B platoon.
  15. Man if Aguilar for Honeywell was on the table I wouldn’t get off the phone until the trade was official.
  16. Something is up. Moose plays 3B daily and Hiura plays 2B daily. Shaw/Aguilar/Thames platoon doesn't sound plausible. For me, the most likely candidates to move are Thames (so Shaw platoons at 1B with his eventual transition there for 2020) or Hiura (moved for a TOR arm). They could easily go with 12 pitchers for awhile too. After the off day on Monday there is a 9 day game stretch and then they don't play more than 6 days in a row for a couple of weeks--and then it's September call-up time. Or they could put somebody with nagging injuries on the IL at some point (Hiura/Braun/Thames). It would be an awkward roster coming out of Spring Training, but you can make just about anything work for a month with 6 off days. I guess I am skeptical more from a standpoint of Shaw not being a bench bat. Short of a trade and/or Thames going to the IL, I would rather have Moose and Hiura playing daily in MLB and Shaw playing daily in MiLB.
  17. Syndergaard has been unimpressive the past two seasons. I like the guy, and would love to have him, but feel he is deeply over rated... Let me ask this hypothetically, would you trade Hiura if you could get DeGrom instead of Syndergaard?? deGrom is controllable longer but is older. As you are seeing with Cain compared to 2018, the end could come quickly. Having said that, elite hitting vs. elite pitching...I take the pitching all day. I am not sure I would but if it were say Hiura for Walker Buehler straight up, I would do that.

  19. I remember MULTIPLE iterations of lineup projections that had Agular at 3rd base...as a regular. So....yeah, I think if that's the bar we're setting, Aguilar at 3rd, Moose at SS works just fine for me! Of course I do hope that's not actually the bar we're setting as our pitchers have enough trouble getting 3 outs an inning, no reason to give the other team an extra 5 or 6 a game. As for "Thor," does anyone actually really want him that badly? I don't want to make a trade in which we give up Turang as the centerpiece for Syndergaard....if we gave up Hiura...it just feels like the baseball version of throwing good money after bad. Missing the playoffs in a year you expected to compete sucks, but it's not the end of the world. Compounding the disappointment by trading away the potential cornerstones to your future in an effort cling to the hopes that you can get back to where you were last year when you just missed out, that just strikes me as desperate and dumb. Something I don't think even the best GM's are immune to at some point in their career, but I really hope Stearns just doesn't give anything up. Amazing summary of where I hope Stearns is currently. If the team can be improved via a deal that makes sense, (e.g. Syndergaard for a package of something like Peralta, Ray and Lutz) go for it. If the only trades there to be made are ridiculous asks, (e.g. Stroman for Burnes and Ray) by all means hold off and regroup for 2020.
  20. As I said in the Shaw call up page, this smells like the beginning of other moves. I wouldn't want to deal Hiura for Syndergaard straight up. However, I won't be totally shocked if the Shaw move was the first domino to fall and Hiura is moved for Syndergaard. I wouldn't do it but I would understand it. My best offer would be something along the lines of Peralta, Ray and Lutz and I HIGHLY doubt that gets it done.
  21. The implosion here would be massive. As it should be. This just smells like the first piece of something larger. The roster construction doesn't work with Shaw as a bench bat.
  22. With word that Syndergaard really is on the block... ***whispers softly***
