  1. Interesting...so the bench is: UTIL: Saladino 1B/3B: Shaw C: Pina OF: Gamel 1B: Thames/Aguilar This has a distinct smell of more moves to be made. Shaw plays better everyday and not as a PH. Perhaps Thames is being moved and Shaw will platoon at 1B with Aguilar.
  2. That's a hard no from me. Jeffress (DUI) and Braun (Cheating, and how he handled it) could be said to have "some personal baggage", but Russell is on a whole different level to that. I absolutely do not want him on the Brewers. He's a better player than Arcia, but I'd never want to replace Arcia with Russell. Amen to this. I would rather lose than root for someone who abuses women. Just my feelings on the subject.
  3. I just can't rationalize trading Arcia unless it is for pitching help. I don't want to give up any assets for an upgrade at SS when SP/RP are the obvious pressing needs.
  4. This has to be the pitching coach. These are mostly the same guys that got within a game of the World Series last year. To be so bad this season with so little personnel change (save Knebel) is so maddening.
  5. I am ready for the Brewers offense to finally come to life.
  6. Davies just doesn't have the control necessary to be a soft-tossing SP. Senzel's AB, even though an out, was a perfect example of that. Expecting the change and just could emergency hack and foul pitch after pitch of the 88-90 MPH fastball.
  7. Man...it just felt like a season changing HR off Suarez's bat last night in the 9th. I hope I am wrong but it was a devastating loss as a fan.
  8. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/lets-make-some-trades-the-2019-edition/ This is an interesting proposal. Dubon, Grisham, Ashby and Shaw for Stroman. I wouldn't do that deal with Shaw, included as I see him splitting time at 1B in 2020 with Aguilar and a re-signed Moose at 3B. However, I could be convinced on Dubon, Grisham and Ashby for Stroman. It still feels a bit heavy but I would consider it if Giles could be added and if the Brewers could add a different fourth piece.
  9. My biggest shock when I came back to Milwaukee for a game this season...what looked to be assault weapon yielding MPD officers. I am not weapons expert but that looked like an assault rifle/machine gun. I was absolutely floored by the fact the weapon was in their hands. Intimidating.
  10. Yeah, I accidentally copy and pasted the Day game column instead of NL Central inter division standings. I updated my original post as well. Wasn't meant to be snarky at all. Just got me curious and looked for myself.

  12. The rumor all offseason was they were desperate to move off that contract. My reason for throwing out the idea of paying Greinke to acquire Ray was more to lessen the prospect load going to Arizona. I have no clue if they would be willing to do something like that but if Attanasio were willing to (throwing a large number out on purpose) say $50 million off their hands, I think they would have to "throw in" a Ray because I don't see any other way they get out of that contract.
  13. And what a sad thing that will be for the historically pitching cursed Milwaukee Brewers. Imagine 2017 Jimmy Nelson at the front of the rotation with 2019 Brandon Woodruff. Why can't we have nice things?
  14. I know Minor has been very good in Texas, especially this season, but I worry a trade for him may not move the needle enough. If the Brewers could acquire Minor AND Robbie Ray/Madison Bumgarner/Zack Greinke/Zack Wheeler, then I would feel much better about their October chances.
  15. Couple options here: 1. If Attanasio could afford to do it (and none of us really know if he could), I would eat as much of the Greinke contract (2 years $70m after this year) as possible if they could also acquire Ray for limited prospect return. 2. I would very much be interested in acquiring Ray and Archie Bradley, who is having a down year but was quite good in 2017 and 2018, and is signed through 2022. 3. I would also be interested in Greinke alone if they could pay down the contract a little and not expect great prospects in return.
  16. You and I are going back and forth and I think we may be missing each other's point. I hear you about the leverage thing and understand that Yelich has none right now as he is signed for 3 seasons after this. My point is simply if the Brewers want/hope to re-sign him, the only way I see them being able to do so would be to offer a new contract with new money upfront like the one I am proposing. Yelich currently has 3 years $31.5m on his deal remaining -Your proposal is extending that 5 years (through age 35) and $125m for a total of 8 years $152.5m -My proposal is essentially ripping up his existing deal, tacking on an additional 3 years to and giving him $150m of new money to be spread out evenly over the 6 years for a total of 6 years $181.5m. This contract takes him through age 33. We can argue the merits of one or the other. I just believe that if its the Brewers goal to keep Yelich in Milwaukee, the latter is the best way to do so. It gives him money upfront and (unbelievably) is still below market value for his talent.
  17. You act like a concept such as this is unprecedented but it just happened with the Mike Trout contract, where the Angels ripped up the final two years in his extension: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/26306935/sources-angels-trout-new-430m-deal Yelich is a superstar and will get paid as one. If you don't want it to be with the Brewers then fine. That's a different discussion. You can argue for the sake of arguing but the point remains that if the Brewers want to resign him, even if they offer him the deal I propose, it is still below market value and you get an additional 2 years.
  18. No, absolutely not. That's literally a 50M a year contract in new money. Not only is that blowing away the richest previous contract in MLB history but you're doing it years before he even hits free agency when he has no leverage at all. No. It's on average $30m a year contract because you spread it out over the 5 years and you gain an additional 2 years of prime years Yelich.
  19. Currently, Christian Yelich is signed through 2022 for $31.5 million. What if the Brewers were to approach him and offer Christian $150m worth of new money and tack on 3 additional years to the contract? Essentially his 3 year $31.5m deal becomes a 6 year $180m deal and extends him through his age 32 season. Putting myself in his shoes and seeing what is occurring with FAs around the 30-31 age, I would be inclined to take it. Is it the $330m or $300m that Harper and Machado are making? No. However, they were FAs at the age of 26 and not 30.
  20. Um...wow. I would expect this would be the package to get Syndergaard or Bauer but Robbie Ray? Maybe the Brewers could offer them Hader for that package.
  21. After watching this team tonight...I hold my ground on any trade. This team is not good. One pitcher does not solve their problems. Their problem is systemic and cannot be solved by a trade for one starting pitcher. An increase in one SP is not the difference between World Series contention and also ran. Hold the prospects and reset in the offseason. This team should sell the pieces that can keep open their small market window. Looking at you Moustakas and Grandal.
  22. If it's Hiura for Syndergaard straight up...does anyone do that? Given the Brewers historic lack of development in terms of pitching, I am all in favor of trading elite hitting for elite pitching. The years of control are what preclude me from making this move. I keep trying to find a way for the Brewers to acquire Syndergaard without parting with Hiura and I just don't see it. As adam mentions, the Mets will need a sexy headliner and no one in the Brewers system fits the bill other than Hiura.
  23. I think a Thor type (controllable) makes the most sense from Stearns mentality. If the Brewers truly are going to make a trade for a SP it will either be an all in for a Thor-type or it will be a hoping to catch lightning in a bottle Gio-type. The Bumgarner and Wheeler type rentals don't fit Stearns MO in terms of sacrificing good prospects. If you can acquire them at a heavily discounted rate, which is unlikely given the supposed interest surrounding them, I can see it. Like Moustakas last year. My expectation though is you will either see that a Yelich-type deal for a controllable SP or you will see nibbling around the fringes of the roster.
  24. Orlando Arcia should not be the reason we do not acquire Thor. Assuming the rest of the deal is reasonable (meaning it's not Hiura, Burnes, Ray & Arcia), if Arcia is the key piece to completing a deal, you make it.
  25. An old friend is available for free. Sign him up and trade for Will Smith and we're back in business! 2016 business!
