  1. Dallas Keuchel would certainly seem to fit the bill of what the Brewers could realistically be looking at. Signing him and Lyles or Miley to go with Woodruff, Houser and Lauer gives the Brewers at worst an average rotation, and at best an above average one.
  2. Given the moves the Brewers have made to date with the clearing of significant amounts of payroll, could it be they are anticipating acquiring another superstar with a significant contract to pair with Yelich and Hiura in the middle of the lineup? Namely Nolan Arenado. He of the 7 years, $234m deal ($33.4 AAV), but with an opt-out after 2021? That contract, and the opt-out date in particular, seems to fall in line with the Yelich competitive window where Yelich and Cain are both FA after 2022. Given Ryan Braun's contract also comes off the books after the 2020 season (unless the mutual option is exercised) there could be space in the budget for a second superstar like Arenado, especially if the Brewers continue to pay other portions of the roster at smaller, pre-arbitration salaries (Urias, Hiura and the bullpen). While certainly unlikely, I am beginning to think something big like this is the plan for the Brewers. Maybe not Arenado but a player in that realm. Why else would the Brewers be so willing to shed salary unless Attanasio is in financial trouble that we collectively are unaware of?
  3. If that is the case, then I think that is the new Moneyball. I would take eight Cirillos every single day of the week over eight Moustakas (Moustaki? ). Cirillo per 162 games: *.296/.366/.796 *11 HR *73 RBI Moustakas per 162 games: *.252/.310/.751 *26 HR *80 RBI
  4. I would do either of these in a heartbeat. Vaughn reminds me of Hiura (excellent plate approach) and is immediately the 1B of the future to go with Hiura at 2B and (hopefully) Urias at SS. Kopech or Cease are TOR talent type pitchers. For this package, I would gladly sacrifice some 2020 wins. EDIT: Then there is this: If 2020 is all in, let's take advantage and give them the best reliever on the market.
  5. If the Brewers were ever going to spend big money on a FA SP, these will be the type of players they ultimately will land. Not saying I would give Wheeler specifically $20m per, but I the Brewers will have to take risks on guys like him (potential ace stuff but with higher injury risk) given the current economic disadvantages of small markets.
  6. Say the Brewers sign Wade Miley and Jordan Lyles to fill out the rotation with Woodruff, Houser and Lauer. Would you be *content* going into 2020 with that as your 1-5? *Content given the likelihood of the Brewers being priced out of Strasburg, Cole, Bumgarner, Wheeler*
  7. He makes the Brewers better today. However, long term, I think this makes the Brewers worse as peak Hiura could (I said could) be close to peak Lindor (offensively). I could see a scenario where Hader is dealt to a third team (Dodgers), prospects go to the Indians, and Lindor comes to Milwaukee. That seems more plausible.
  8. Page 4 of the thread I proposed Seager at 3B as a target for Hader. Seager is only under contract for another two years but if the package included May as well, I think this would make sense.
  9. Not saying the Rays would even think about this deal. Only saying that is the "s-ton" I think it would take for Hiura to be moved.
  10. Following up on the Mets though, it does make sense that the Brewers would be looking to fill the 1B and 3B holes in a trade of Hader. I just wouldn't target McNeil-Davis-Smith as the ones to fill those holes.
  11. While extremely unrealistic, I mean this is a "s-ton". If for some reason the Rays were to offer Snell/Glasnow and McKay, then that would be something you have to entertain. Even then, it feels light-ish for a guy who legitimately could contend for a batting title yearly for the next decade.
  12. Seriously. If Hader is going to the Mets, they can start with Syndergaard and even that I am not convinced on. Hader + for Syndergaard and Dom Smith....maybe. Hader for multiple utility men like Davis and McNeil and a 1B in Smith. Pound sand New York.
  13. One thing you have to say about Stearns, he doesn't make decisions with his heart. I can appreciate given I would've probably brought back half of those guys on heart alone (Shaw, Nelson, Guerra).
  14. With Moustakas going to Cincinnati, I wonder if the Brewers would be willing to send Hader to the Dodgers for a package that included Corey Seager to play 3B.
  15. I would be on board with trading Hader for Syndergaard and Smith and signing Wheeler. However, I think it is imperative they also re-sign Moustakas. With those three moves, I call it a day on the offseason (unless they can sign Betances as well for the bullpen).
  16. Important to note that one fan's "annoying" is another fan's "fun and endearing". I love the oversized personality stuff that players like Morgan and Gomez brought if they are helping the team win games. Totally understood and knew what the response would be when I posted it. It's also a dichotomy I have as a fan as well. Whereas, I found Gomez lighthearted and generally harmless given how he played hard all the time, I found Morgan's to be annoying and forced. Living in Southern California at the height of Puig's powers, he comes across as a blend of the two.
  17. As a player, Puig would make sense as someone who could fill the Ryan Braun-sized hole after this season. As a personality, Puig could be this team's iteration of Nyjer Morgan. As a fan, my patience would run thin if that routine reached the levels of annoying that came with the Tony Plush routine.
  18. That was the point of my earlier post. I think the value for the Mets SHOULD be about even given Thor doesn't pitch to his stuff whereas Hader does and the difference between SP and RP. If I am the Mets, I do this trade and re-sign Wheeler. A top 3 rotation of deGrom-Stroman-Wheeler-is potentially as good as anyone in the NL given the Nats may not have Strasburg and its unknown where Cole is going. If Diaz returns to previous form, a bullpen with Hader-Diaz is about as good as it gets. If I am the Brewers, I am terrified by the fact that Thor doesn't pitch to his stuff and is a FA after two seasons. However, the small market Brewers window is likely closing in two years anyways, so it may make sense to try and make a deal for a "supposed" TOR arm. However, this deal scares me because I am not convinced Thor is a TOR guy. Hader will/should be dealt in my opinion. I think the Brewers will only deal Hader for something that rebuilds the farm at the highest level or returns something elite that helps the current window.
  19. Exactly. And I am not even sure Hader for Alonso would be beneficial for the Brewers in the current window but it's their biggest piece for our biggest piece (other than Yelich who from a baseball and business standpoint is not going anywhere). Realistically, the trade should be Hader for Syndergaard but I doubt the Mets are smart enough to do that deal.
  20. Not trying to start an argument, but wouldn't it just make sense to bring back Thames and Aguilar to play 1B? A relatively inexpensive platoon in order to allocate resources to pay Moose and some SP.
  21. I am curious where he said this? He seems like an ideal candidate to try to convert to a 1B given his relative uninspiring D at OF/3B. If the Brewers could afford it, which I think they can, signing him and Moose to play the corners would lead to a beautifully constructed lineup now that they also have Urias. 1. Cain 2. Yelich 3. Hiura 4. Moose 5. Castellanos 6. Braun 7. Urias 8. Pina
  22. Pre-2019 Urias was the: -#31 overall prospect according to Baseball America -#23 overall prospect according to MLB.com -#17 overall prospect according to Baseball Prospectus
  23. Um wow...I like Grisham but it seems like Urias is a pretty big get for him and Davies. Someone convince me otherwise.
  24. I would prefer Moose and Didi to Rendon only from a standpoint that it lengthens and balances the lineup. A RH-LH lineup 1-6 of Cain-Yelich-Braun-Moose-Hiura-Didi would be pretty sweet. Bring Thames back to play 1B please.
  25. Just extend Yelich if you are dying to spend $200 million+.
