  1. I don't know what it is but Boyd just feels like a guy who is destined to be the Cubs SP acquisition at the deadline (should they be buyers at the deadline). A guy with a lot of hype who has been historically inconsistent but somehow figures it all out once he gets to Chicago.
  2. I think this is probably the most important thing to note when it comes to Shaw at this point. I would rather have him on the field defensively at 3B/1B over anyone else that is currently on the roster. Even in the event they deal for a Josh Donaldson type, I would still have him as a bench bat and platoon 1B.
  3. Without looking at the stats, simply going with the eye test from watching the games. Shaw appears to have had a substantial amount of bad luck. Seems like a lot of rockets right at OF for outs. Also a lot of hard hit grounders into the shift in short RF. I am not quite ready to pull the plug on him.
  4. This is the kind of game good teams find a way to win and bad teams find a way to lose. We already know the Padres are good. They have fought back multiple times. Let's see what happens here for the Brewers. The Padres have the heart of the order coming, and against Yardley, if they get to the 10th.
  5. I honest to God thought that was where the slump was going to end. Hiura needs a complete revamp with his toe touch and swing.
  6. Today is the first time all season that I don't really want to watch this team. The lack of fundamentals and overall poor approaches at the plate makes them a tough watch for me presently. Go Brewers...but I'll be checking in sporadically.
  7. Maybe we should have pinch hit Houser for Pina in the 9th last night in order to move Cain and Yelich to 2nd and 3rd with 1 out?
  8. While I certainly don’t disagree, I’m not sure baseball on the whole is a very good product right now. It’s sort of amazing that we’re going to go through this dead ball situation coming off a year of pandemic-ball, and then we’ll get to follow contentious labor negotiations next offseason that will include the players being locked out in December and probably worse come the spring. If you wanted to write a textbook on how to kill a sport I would recommend asking Rob Manfred to pen the foreword. This is excellent. Everything about state of my favorite sport is terrible right now. While the economics of big market vs small have always been terrible, the product on the field is simply not enjoyable anymore. The sport has become a dumbed down version of what it used to be (e.g. sports version of a strategic chess match). It is simply terrible these days.
  9. One last thought for the night. This team is not fun to root for. We have longed for amazing pitching for years and finally have it. Now they cannot score. Give me the days where the offense had a puncher’s chance of coming back for entertainment purposes over the garbage we are watching currently. Attanasio has to know that most fans would rather watch the Packers drama unfold come July than this garbage continue on a nightly basis.
  10. Take away the obvious in game issues. Ask yourself this question. Does this team look well managed? In other words, do the fundamentals look sound? To me they are severely lacking.
  11. I'm not sure trying to have Pina bunt would have turned out any better. I hear you. They cannot score consistently with hits. Have to do it the old fashioned way and generate offense then. Hit and run. Sac bunts. Situational hitting. All concepts totally foreign to Counsell these days.
  12. This only works when the Brewers have a great lineup that includes the likes of Braun, Fielder, Hart and Weeks in their prime. When you have the lineup they throw out now, dominating performances against the Brewers come from anyone!
  13. I like that the Brewers and the FO are being proactive in trying to improve the team and not waiting until July. Urias was not doing well, trade for Adames. Lindblom continues to struggle, DFA him. Lindblom didn't work out. It happens. Cut your losses and move on.
  14. Oh the irony! What I wouldn't give to have this not be ironic!
  15. If the Brewers are going with a 6 man rotation in 2021, then I think Lauer should be given a little bit of leash to see what they have in him. I don't think he's a world beater by any stretch but I view him and Houser as truly viable #4-#5 for the long term behind Burnes, Woodruff and Peralta. If the Brewers stick with a 5 man rotation for now, I think Lauer should be in the pen as a long man. Hader, Williams, Suter, Boxberger, Lauer, Richards is a decent to good start to the bullpen. Finding another good arm or two to fill the remaining roles should become easier as we get closer to July. I wonder if the Brewers have any intention to have Ashby or Small potentially fill bullpen roles later in the year?
