  1. Would you trade Rafael Soriano for Bryce Harper? I have two closers (Soriano and Perkins) and have Braun, Michael Brantley, Adam Jones in my OF and have 2 UTIL spots being used by a combo of Ben Revere, Domonic Brown and Leonys Martin. Harper is out for another month. I think I should do it immediately but just seeing what you guys think and how you value saves.
  2. ...And I am glad that he has even though I brought the Revere potential up. Davis is the best option as he is the internal option that doesn't cost us anything. If Davis can simply be a .260/.330/.450 hitter, he can be a starter in the OF for the next 4-5 seasons.
  3. Now that Stephen Drew has signed in Boston, you have to wonder if Middlebrooks time in Boston is close to coming to an end. If he were to be made available, I would definitely have a strong interest in acquiring him given the Brewers lack of long term plan at 3B. Same reason for my interest in Moustakas as well.
  4. Agreed. It will be interesting if the deal is for the rest of the season or if it will be a multi-year contract. Not sure I have strong feelings either way.
  5. This was a maddeningly stupid inning by RR. I don't think I have ever been more upset watching a managers decisions.
  6. With Ben Revere apparently falling out of favor in Philadelphia, would he be a fit for LF in the event Davis continues to struggle over the next month or so? While Revere has absolutely zero power and doesn't have gap power as evidenced by his lack of XBH (47 in 1443 career ABs), he does sport a career AVG of .283 and OBP of .320 and has stolen 108 bases in 379 career games. A change of scenery deal of Schafer for Revere comes to mind. I am not sure I would do it, but sticking a speedy LH with a good AVG and decent OBP guy may be intriguing.
  7. Possible to get Moustakas on the cheap now that he has been optioned to MiLB? http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/royals-send-mike-moustakas-to-triple-a-recall-jimmy-paredes?ymd=20140522&content_id=76367920&vkey=news_mlb
  8. Agreed. I would love to: 1. DFA Overbay and bring up Morris or trade for Moustakas 2. Keep Maldonado & Weeks 3. Keep Schafer & Bianchi for the time being...unless a different option that I currently do not see presents itself i.e. trade for more O with average D replacement.
  9. The DBacks are the Dodgers fan equivalent of the Cardinals. DBacks FO constantly talk about the unwritten rules and respecting the game. I couldn't think of a more ideal situation for TLR. Will give me even more reason to "hate" him.
  10. I think Uecker has another 5-ish years. I can't imagine someone stealing Block in that time. He just doesn't do anything spectacular enough like Hughes, Powell and Provus to warrant another team stealing him. Block is just a guy and most teams have those guys in their employ already. Why steal Block?
  11. While I agree, I have to wonder aloud if the reason he is being kept around is for the "designated veteran leadership role." The clubhouse chemistry on this team seems very high and I have to wonder if DM and RR think it has to do with the presence of a player like O. Not saying I agree with it, because I would rather have Morris up than O, just offering a reason.
  12. I would absolutely assume Texas would cover some of the deal. If the Brewers could, for example, get Prince at 6 years at around $90-$95 million (he currently has 6 years $124 million left), would Milwaukee be interested? Given the lack of 1B at the Major League level and apparently the lack of faith in Hunter Morris, would Attanasio and Melvin flinch?
  13. Would it be shocking to everyone if Texas quietly put Fielder on the block? Given his play thus far in Texas, I wonder if they would consider a move. If so, would the Brewers be interested?
  14. Oh man...what I wouldn't give for Gomez to go yard first pitch and take a David Ortiz trot around the bases, all while staring at Gerritt Cole.
  15. Mike Moustakas. I mentioned this is the Moustakas thread, but if this were the offseason, I could see a Estrada-Moustakas swap as Estrada's value. For what it's worth, I would make this move.
  16. Honestly, I have no idea what the Royals would want in return. If this were November 2013 or November 2014, I think the perfect piece for us and them would be Marco Estrada. However, being that its May 2014, I don't know if the teams match up. I would love to get his bat and defense into our lineup as I think he might be the perfect change of scenery guy, but as others have mentioned, I doubt a deal of Ariel Pena would get the deal done. I think it would have to be a Jimmy Nelson type or possibly a Tyrone Taylor, whom I would not be real interested in dealing. I would maybe be interested in moving Tom Gorzelanny or Jim Henderson to them, given their bullpen issues, but Gorzelanny or Henderson for Moustakas is probably not enough. One of the two + Pena for Moustakas? Come on man...http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=mousta001mik 2008 in A: .272/.337/.468 22 HR, 71 RBI in in 496 ABs 2009 in A+: .250/.297/.421 16 HR, 86 RBI in 492 ABs 2010 in AA/AAA: .322/.369/.630 36 HR, 124 RBI in 484 ABs 2011 in AAA: .287/.347/.498 10 HR, 44 RBI in 223 ABs Outside of 2009, he put up solid MiLB numbers.
  17. 2-6 in the last 8. We desperately need K. Davis, Segura and Ramirez' bats to wake up soon. No way we should ever be losing 2/3 to the Diamondbacks with that scrub pitching staff they have.
  18. Agreed and I think the Brewers should be looking into making a deal of one of the three (Estrada, Lohse, Gallardo) for a piece or pieces that could fit in at a corner IF spot. If the Brewers want to break in Nelson into the rotation for 2015, which they should, I think a move of Estrada would be the most beneficial. One of the options I have considered personally, is moving Estrada for Mike Moustakas. I personally don't believe Estrada would bring in much in terms of young prospects, but Moustakas is only 25 and would still be under Brewer control for another 3 seasons, 2015-2017, before becoming eligible for FA.
  19. This. SVS could be a real find as a long term solution at 1B and given the Dodgers have him blocked at the 3 OF spots (Kemp, Puig, Ethier, Crawford), 1B (Gonzalez) and have Joc Pederson coming, a move of SVS would be a good thing for them. Unfortunately, they don't really have that many holes, save possibly 3B and UTIL, so making a move with them as fantasy GMs is difficult.
  20. I'd like to see them make a minor move for the future by acquiring Mike Moustakas from the Royals. Not sure if the Royals would move him and if they would, what they would want, but I have a real fear for the Brewers long term at 3B. Not saying Moustakas necessarily would solve that but he looks like an ideal change of scenery candidate. For 2014, this would give us a power bat to PH and give Ramirez and possibly the 1B a break. For 2015, perhaps a replacement for Ramirez if his struggles continue.
  21. I would say yes. Baseball Reference has it as a playoff appearance, as seen below. http://www.baseball-reference.com/postseason/1981_WS.shtml Additionally, the Brewers website calls it a playoff appearance. http://mlb.mlb.com/mil/history/timeline.jsp I believe the Brewers have a wall banner in LF indicating the playoff appearance. I guess I look at it as a pre-cursor to the old version of the Wild Card.
  22. ...and that is why Jeff Bianchi should remain on this team for the foreseeable future.
  23. The way I read this...WCWW may be over before the end of this Wednesday.
  24. I may be limiting my worth but when you are talking $40 million, I would not bat an eye and accept that deal immediately. For me, it would be a no brainer. Give me the financial security now and allow me to showcase what I can be and get the large contract later. Put another way, Segura is a FA after 2018, or when he is finishing his age 28 season. Any extension would certainly require one or two years of FA buyout. For the sake of the argument, let's say it buys out two seasons (6 Yrs/$40mm), making Segura free after his age 30 season. Assuming he turns into what he flashed last year, at 30 he will still be a plus defensive SS with above average bat and speed. That type of FA at his age certainly would command an $80+ million deal in 2020, given Jose Reyes received 6 YR/$106mm in 2011 after his age 28 season. For Segura, I think its an awfully big risk given: Since June 1, 2013 - end of 2013 season Segura batted: .261/.292/.354 4 HR 27 RBI 29 SB in 379 AB extrapolated into a 162 game average is .261/.292/.354 7 HR 47 RBI 50 SB And has started 2014: .236/.269/.326 1 HR 5 RBI 5 SB in 89 AB extrapolated into a 162 game average is .236/.269/.326 8 HR 36 RBI 36 SB Or combined since June 1, 2013 is: .235/.284/.310 5 HR 32 RBI 34 SB in 468 AB Given all this, please give me $40 million today.
  25. I think it's more the fact that they can't pitch him in close games, which leads to the taxing of the other members of the bullpen. I am on the fence right now. On one hand, Wang has incredible stuff that should definitely play long term. On the other hand, our bullpen is incredibly overworked already. This has problems written all over it come July if the pen is continually used in this manner. I don't know which way I am leaning right now.
