  1. If Gennett hits .280 with a .330 OBP, hits 8 -12 HRs, drives in 45 - 60 RBI and plays average to above average defense...Milwaukee say hello to your starting 2B for the next decade.
  2. Assuming it wouldn't cost us anything more than say a Blazek, I would be all for this deal. Even if we bring back Corey Hart as well. Morrison could serve as a backup 1B and 5th OF, would be a nice bench bat and would also be a nice insurance piece if Hart gets injured.
  3. Braun did some pretty bad things throughout the entire process. I get why some fans will not like him moving forward. I just don't get why people continue to dwell on this. Give the guy a chance to make amends moving forward. He can't satisfy all the things people want in one day, one month or one year. He plays hard, doesn't showboat, is a presence in the community and advocates against the usage of PEDs in the future and Braun can rehabilitate his image. To think he can answer questions in a press conference and become the Ryan Braun pre-2011 is absurd. Let's give him a chance and judge him 5 years from now.
  4. Bottom line, based on the second half of last year, I don't think it's a bad signing especially when viewed against the merits of the Lohse deal. 3 years $33 million + a lost first round pick for the Brewers who were a fringe playoff team at best prior to 2013 versus Haren for 1 year $10 million with no lost 1st round pick...I know which one I would choose if given the choice, especially given the current status of the Brewers roster.
  5. You were the one who asked for "stats"
  6. Ideally, I would like to see an Aoki + for Jeremy Hellickson, who is just entering his first arbitration year. Aoki seems like a TB type of player to me and could likely return to them in 2015 for a relatively inexpensive deal.
  7. Why? From July to October, over his last 15 starts of the season, Haren had the following line: 87 IP 8-8 W-L 3.29 ERA 1.04 WHIP Pretty darn good numbers for a #4 or #5 pitcher. That's a great stat, what was he from Apr to July and the year before. I would take Lohse, give up the draft pick every day of the week over this guy. He won't help the Dodgers IMO. Glad you asked. From 2010 to 2012 he was the following: 650IP 40-35 W-L 3.75 ERA 1.18 WHIP Sure, he had a bad first half of 2013. Tons of pitchers have had bad seasons only to rebound. Jon Lester had a 4.82 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 2012 and last I checked he had a 3.75 ERA in 2013 and went 2-0 in the World Series by allowing 1 R in 15 IP. Seems like a reasonable risk to take given the lack of draft pick attached to him. If you still would take Lohse and give up the pick over Haren, then you and I have differing views on how to build a small market team.
  8. Why? From July to October, over his last 15 starts of the season, Haren had the following line: 87 IP 8-8 W-L 3.29 ERA 1.04 WHIP Pretty darn good numbers for a #4 or #5 pitcher.
  9. If you are only looking at performance you are completely missing the point of why people think it was a bad signing. It was a bad signing because of what we gave up and the talent on the team. No I'm not missing anything.. This team has a lot of talent on it and most of it we missed for the majority of last season. Like I said all we need is 1 SP, bullpen help, and Hart and we will be fine. Based on how good Lohse has been should we have a good season in 2014 you'll all be changing your tunes, and I think it's pretty likely. I have to echo PFx1 on this one. Going into 2013, you just came off a 83 win season and had non-suspended Braun, healthy Aramis and Hart only projected to be out a few weeks to begin the season. If all things had fallen right for the Brewers with those 3 players, plus adding a high end #3 or low end #2 like Lohse to pair with a pre-2013 high end #2 in Gallardo and you are likely looking at an improved team from 2012 season and a likely wild card contender. However, when you take the 3-4-5 out of any team for 101, 70, 162 games like the Brewers had in 2013 with Braun, Ramirez and Hart and a totally out of the blue down season for Gallardo, you are destined for a 74-88 type season. Think the Cardinals make a World Series run with Holliday-Craig-Molina all missing that amount of time? Having Braun-Ramirez-Hart all for 145ish plus games and I think you are looking at a drastically different 2013.
  10. Seconded. If Hart isn't re-signed, then a Jones-Halton platoon would buy Hunter Morris a few more months in Triple AAA before a possible call-up midseason if Jones stinks.
  11. Absolutely understand the point here and would agree if the Brewers roster more resembled that of 2011 when they had a rock solid rotation. My issue in 2014 is that I believe that the Brewers need to get better in different areas other than keeping Aoki as a 4th OF. If the FO is determined for Davis to play everyday, and I totally agree with this, then Gindl/Schafer can more than adequately fill that 4th OF role. Aoki needs to be dealt to fill another area where the Brewers are lacking (SP, 3B, 1B).
  12. Perfect spot for this guy. Gives me all the more reasons to dislike him and his St. Louis-esque knowledge of the unwritten rules of baseball.
  13. Man that follow-up article makes Cerrone come across as pompous. Essentially, fans interpreted the article the exact way it was written and it is our fault for trusting his journalistic integrity. What jerks we are!
  14. In the Aoki trade value topic in the Transaction Rumor section, I stated I believe Aoki's future is tied to Hart. If Hart is in Milwaukee, Aoki will not be as the FO keeps mentioning finding ABs for Davis and I highly doubt Braun or Gomez is dealt. That leaves Aoki as the likeliest candidate to be dealt. If Hart is not re-signed, I think Braun is moved to 1B with LF opening for Davis/Gindl, keeping Aoki in RF.
  15. I haven't seen anything about Kinsler's team control being the reason for the deal. The size of his deal versus Prince's...yes. But not team control. It was about moving Fielder's massive contract in order to try and re-sign Scherzer and Cabrera. Castellanos is under team control regardless of who they traded for, so that point is irrelevant. Trading for Ramirez and Weeks instead of Kinsler would have done three things for the Tigers. 1. Allow Ramirez to play 3B this season, giving the team a reliable 3B for a World Series contender rather than a rookie. Aramis is in fact mentioned in this article as a possible target for Detroit even after the Fielder-Kinsler deal:http://www.freep.com/article/20131121/SPORTS02/311210104/ 2. Castellanos is still in the system. He can come in 2015 at 3B when Ramirez, V-Mart and Weeks are allowed to become FAs because... 3. The Tigers need the salary flexibility in order to re-sign Scherzer and Cabrera after 2014 and 2015. That was being continually mentioned as the reason they needed to deal Prince and his contract. Having Kinsler locked up long term is a blessing and a curse for the Tigers given the financial flexibility they will need to re-sign Scherzer and Cabrera. Kinsler's deal was simply more palatable than Prince's when the Tigers begin negotiations to re-sign these two.
  16. It's a game of what if. What if the rookie isn't ready to contribute to a World Series contender? What is their fallback option at 3B? What if Ramirez is healthy and returns to his 2011-2012 average of .303/.361/.525, 26 HR 99 RBI line? I am not saying Castellanos will fail, however, with a team built to win in 2014, I would prefer to have Aramis at 3B rather than a rookie, even a rookie with Castellanos limitless potential. While Weeks is definitely a downgrade at 2B from Kinsler, I don't think it's so significant to overlook what a healthy Ramirez could do for that lineup.
  17. Honestly, I would have been curious if the Tigers would have done: Aramis Ramirez and Rickie Weeks for Prince Fielder, $30 million Not arguing about whether or not this makes the Brewers better or worse. Rather, I am curious if the Tigers would have preferred sticking Miggy at 1B, Ramirez at 3B, Rickie at 2B and allow Castellanos another season to develop at 3B. For a team built to win now given Scherzer's & V-Mart's impending FA after 2014, I guess it boils down to are Aramis and Rickie better than Castellanos and Kinsler in 2014? I would say yes.
  18. 2013 Player #1: 240 ABs .221/.300/.433, 13 HR, 32 RBI Player #2: 317 ABs .205/.326/.334, 9 HR, 33 RBI Player #1 is Juan Francisco Player #2 is Ike Davis Why trade for Ike Davis when "Ike Davis" is already on the roster?
  19. The chip that is yet to fall in the Aoki situation is Corey Hart. I think that the 2014 Brewers will either have Aoki or Hart, but not both. If Corey is re-signed to play 1B, which I believe is likely, then the Brewers have 5 guys Braun/Davis/Gindl/Schafer/Aoki for the 2 other spots in the OF. Braun is entrenched in 1 spot. That leaves the other 4 for 1 spot and we keep hearing that the Brewers FO wants more ABs for Davis. Given this and the fact that I don't see the Brewers receiving an equivalent return for anyone other than Aoki, I think it makes him the most likely to be dealt to open up LF for Davis. However, if Hart is not re-signed, I think the Brewers will be more likely to consider Braun at 1B rather than shifting him to RF. In that scenario, Braun goes to 1B, Aoki likely remains in RF with Davis/Gindl sharing LF.
  20. Wow... I wish they would they have traded him straight up for Rickie Weeks...and $70 million
  21. Even with the lingering PED fallout, I still hold firm to my belief that for the Brewers to trade Ryan Braun, who I believe is still the player he always has been, the conversation needs to start with Wheeler, Syndergaard AND I. Davis. Period. Sorry if I am overreaching, but a player of Braun's ability, personality flaws included, are once in a generation for any franchise. There is no way I entertain any type of Ryan Braun trade that does not include multiple elite pitching prospects, especially given his relatively team-friendly contract. If I don't receive that offer, fine. I will play 2014, 2015, 2016, etc...with a .300/30/100 Braun in the #3 hole.
  22. Furthermore, if the Mets want to get real about a Braun deal, even with the baggage of his suspension, then some combination Syndergaard, Wheeler, D'Arnaud plus I. Davis is the starting point. If not, I am hanging up the phone.
  23. http://metsblog.com/metsblog/brewers-more-likely-to-trade-ryan-braun-than-norichika-aoki/ If this were to happen for this reason and this return, we may as well just give up being fans of this baseball team until new ownership and management come to Milwaukee.
  24. Playing in a division where the Dodgers can purchase whatever and whoever they want makes moves like this almost necessary for the Giants. Rumor out here in LA is that the Dodgers are preparing to make the Rays an offer for David Price because they fear Kershaw will leave after 2014. HOWEVER, even if they pull off a Price deal, the word is they still will pursue a Kershaw deal. The Giants may be throwing out a rotation of: GIANTS Bumgarner Cain Lincecum Hudson Vogelsong/Arroyo? Only to possibly be matched by: DODGERS Kershaw Greinke Price Ryu Billingsley/Beckett Man I am glad we don't play in the Dodgers division.
  25. You and I are just the opposite Homer. I think the lineup, assuming Hart is at 1B, is drastically improved from 2013. I fully expect Braun to be the Braun of old, meaning a .300, 30 HR, 110 RBI guy. I have to believe he was tested rigorously in 2012 and he hit 41 HR that year. I expect him to be on a mission next season to try and make amends with his tainted past. Even still, assuming our lineup plays close to their potential, the lineup remains deep and talented and the bench has players who got a lot of experience in 2013. My real fear is injury with the lineup. Lineup: RF Aoki SS Segura LF Braun 3B Ramirez C Lucroy 1B Hart CF Gomez 2B Gennett/Weeks Bench: C Maldonado, 2B Weeks/Gennett, OF Davis/Gindl/Schafer, IF Halton/Bianchi/Prince The question remains the rotation. If the following occurs though, the Brewers become a very interesting and scary team: 1. Lohse remains something close to the 2011-2013 Lohse (598 IP, 3.19 ERA) 2. Gallardo proves 2013 was simply a down year (2007 - 2012, 916.1 IP, 3.63 ERA) 3. Peralta pitches like he did from June 21 on (103 IP, 3.05 ERA) 4. Estrada is Estrada of 2012/2013 (266.1 IP, 3.75 ERA) 5. Someone is at worst 2011 Narveson-esque. A lot of ifs, but all certainly within reach.
