  1. Wow...seems like a great deal for both teams. Wish Henderson would've been younger as this is the type of deal I would have loved to see the Brewers make.
  2. Maybe on a minor league invite to camp to soft platoon with Ike Davis when he is acquired. A power bat off the bench never hurts given the current status of the Brewers bench with Gindl/Schafer, Maldonado, Weeks/Gennett, Bianchi. Just not a lot of pop there, even if this pop is blind.
  3. I can't wait until we acquire him so he can start at SS and move Segura to 2B. In all seriousness, this would be one of the worst acquisitions considering: 1. We don't have a hole at SS 2. Rollins is old and has a bad contract However, this doesn't preclude me from having some fears that Ryan Howard will be acquired at some point in the offseason to man 1B. Lest we forget he has 3 years, $75 million contract with a 4th year team option @ $23 million or a $10 million buyout. Essentially an $85 million commitment for 3 years. I honestly have a fear that DM may be enticed to deal for him if the Phillies offered to pay say $45 million of his deal, leaving the Brewers on the hook for 3 years $40 million. Back on topic though, just say no to J-Roll.
  4. I was hoping I was the only one thinking this...
  5. With the Yankees looking for a 2B now that Infante has signed with the Royals, I wonder if they would have any interest in Rickie Weeks. I would love Gardner but the FO is determined to give K. Davis LF. I am not sure there really is a fit with them given we would be looking for a 3B/1B/P and they have A-Rod, Tex and weaknesses at P. Maybe a third team could get involved and help get Rickie to NY.
  6. I actually say thank you A-Ram and Weeks. Loney on a 3 year/$21 million deal is something I will pass on everyday of the week.
  7. Loney gets 3 years $21 million per Ken Rosenthal. YUCK! This is good news for the Brewers on the Ike trade front. Joel Sherman just tweeted its Milwaukee or bust for the Mets and Ike. You have to think that both teams now realize that they are the only ones who have a need and have a surplus. Although the Pirates are still looking for a 1B as well. Ike for Ariel Pena has been my predication all along.
  8. I'll always remember that shot he hit to CF in Game 5 against the Diamondbacks. I thought it was out. Great team player and leader. Brewers could use a Hairston in 2014.
  9. I think the ideal situation with Ramirez is a deal to a place like Boston where we would take on a younger 3B like Middlebrooks. In fact if I were Melvin, I would offer that deal straight up, leave Braun in RF and make the deal for Ike (assuming it doesn't cost you Thornburg). A lineup with Braun-Ike-Middlebrooks is better for the long term than Braun-Ike-Ramirez. Now would Boston do that trade, I don't know.
  10. Gamel tore his knee up in May 2012 and February 2013 and was let go almost immediately after the 2013 season ended. I don't think his release was a drawn out process. Similarly, why would you have let Hart go "a long time ago" when he was a 30 HR guy in 2012?
  11. I agree that Walker for 5+ years is better than Gomez for 3. Which is why I don't think Gomez for Walker straight up is a deal Seattle will make. I know I wouldn't make that trade.
  12. There are a lot of ifs for the 2014 Brewers, but I don't necessarily believe that any of the ifs are really a stretch to believe can occur. Running through the team and if you assume health, you have the makings of a very strong everyday lineup and a potentially average to above average starting staff. IF Gomez and Segura simply replicate 2013's finals numbers. IF Braun remains the old Braun. IF Ramirez and Lucroy put the numbers they have historically. IF Davis and Gennett aren't necessarily what they were in 2013 but can put up serviceable numbers as everyday players. For Davis I am thinking .260/.330, 20 HR, 70 RBI and Gennett .280/.320. IF Gallardo's 2013 was a fluke and he returns to pre-2013 Gallardo. IF Lohse replicates 2013. IF Peralta continues his 2013 2nd half development. IF Estrada remains the pitcher he has been for the Brewers since becoming a starter. IF Thornburg pitches to a 4.10 ERA as a #5. Those are definitely a ton of ifs but what is really way out of left field, unfathomable and unreasonable there? Are all likely? Probably not. That isn't the point though. The point is that if most or all of those things happen, the Brewers are probably a high 80s win team. Trading Gomez from a team that has the potential to win in the high 80s and compete for a wild card is not something that the Brewers will entertain given the playoff opportunities for small markets are so fleeting.
  13. Is it safe to assume now Thornburg will not be part of any Ike trade? If DM were to relent now and deal him, he would sure look bad given the rumors that he has refused to part with Thornburg.
  14. @Danzig: I agree. Halton can be that guy for the Brewers if a platoon is needed. Honestly though, it just seems like Ike needs a change of scenery or a change of voice or just change period. His first year in the big leagues, he actually hit LH better than he hit RH. In 2010, versus LH and Ike went .295/.362/.443 as opposed to RH where he went .254/.348/.439. Seems like he never made a counter adjustment to the adjustments pitchers made against him.
  15. Fiers for Ike seems like a win for the Brewers. Ike is a lotto ticket and like Nieves mentioned, could blossom like a Chris Davis, Jose Bautista or any other change of scenery type. Of course he could bottom out and be the .200 hitter he has been the past few seasons. I will take the risk of Fiers blossoming in NY for an opportunity to find out if Ike can do the same in Milwaukee.
  16. I have come to accept that Ike will be at 1B for the Brewers on Opening Day 2014 and so it's time for me to start thinking positively. One thing to like about Ike...After he got called back up from the minors last year, he put up the following line in 48 games: .267/.429/.443 AB 131 H 35 BB 38 K 35 HR 4 RBI 17 Not all-star numbers but definitely solid numbers from a 1B. Let's hope a change of scenery does Ike well and the Brewers reap the benefits.
  17. Someone on BF had a terrible experience with Loney when he was on the Dodgers and I can't remember what the situation was. Anyone recall that story and who it was?
  18. Do we know they have no interest? Or could it be that they might look into him as a 1B option now that Corey's moved on? We don't. I grant you that. But we have not heard any linkage of the Brewers to him at all and now there is this... Looks like the Astros are going to get him on a 1 year deal to build his value. That type of deal would have been perfect for the Brewers.
  19. Which really isn't all that terrible either. Not good but not fall off the table pathetic, especially when you view it against the other options that the Brewers were/are considering that are also LH. For comparison: James Loney: 256/.308/.361/.669 Ike Davis: .204/.268/.334/.602 Logan Morrison: .244/.329/.378/.707 Juan Francisco: .179/.218/.221/.439 And for fun: Prince Fielder: .267/.347/.457/.803 If Hart was not going to re-sign, Morrison was really the guy to me.
  20. I don't know who his source is in the Brewers organization but the Brewers Nation has been pretty spot on in the past regarding potential Brewers transactions. Doesn't mean he is always right, just that I don't doubt his "source." Take it with a grain of salt if you choose...
  21. You might be right JB but handing over a 3 years $27 million deal to James Loney does not sound like my idea of money well spent. Given Hunter Morris/Sean Halton/Jason Rogers, I think I would rather buy a lottery ticket on Ike Davis by giving up an Ariel Pena and hope a change of scenery helps him find his way back to just being a .260/.350/.460, 25-30 HR, 80-100 RBI guy. I will say that if Tyler Thornburg is required for Ike, then I move on.
  22. That tweet from Breen is what made me edit my original post. I was just responding with the Link from where I made my original post.
  23. James Loney 162 game average: .285/.340/.421 13 HR, 80 RBI Ike Davis 162 game average: .242/.334/.434 25 HR, 80 RBI My #1 (Hart) and #2 (LoMo) choices for 1B were just acquired by the Mariners and these are really the only other options that have been linked to the Brewers in the past few weeks. I fully expect the Brewers to trade for Ike in the next few days rather than sign Loney to a ridiculous contract. Given a choice between the two, I think I am pulling for Davis shockingly. EDIT: I really wish the Brewers would look at Michael Morse but they apparently have no interest.
  24. Link? The only thing I read was Haudricourt citing a "source" that said $8 million max with incentives, not $8 million base. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/235440371.html
  25. Just read Hart's offers were: Brewers: $8.2m base with up to $10.5 in incentives Mariners: $5m base with up to $13 in incentives Wow...Barring some really easily reachable incentives, it appears Hart wanted to leave. He had surgeries on two knees last year and there is no guarantee he will remain what he was. I would rather take the Brewers $3.2m more in base than the opportunity to make $2.5m in incentives. Keep in mind, Hart would have been able to make more than last year and not take the pay cut. I understand "baseball is a business" but its kind of a jerk move IMO given his previous statements. EDIT: Melvin just said both Mariners offers (base/guarantee) beat Brewers offers. I rescind the last statement if true.
