  1. I don't normally care about lineups, but I'd like to see this: Cain Braun Yelich Aguilar Schoop Moustakas Perez Kratz Davies
  2. I see that Reilly and homer are "global moderators..." I assume that with the lengthy and storied history of this site there are many, many respected posters who may not be "global moderators" but whose density might carry more weight than their pure number of posts might indicate? As a long time lurker/poster yet also a stranger, I believe Brian the Automator started this site... is he still around in some form or fashion? Others? Whoever they are, I thank them for creating a legacy that is worthy of this thread, even if other threads (particularly IGTs) do not always follow those standards that the originals had set.
  3. Just wanted to bump this one for fun and lolz. "In most cases"--What cases would those be? Maybe those cases where good hitters are following that player who gets IBB??? That second bolded sentence is ridiculous. "Your unprotected batter will produce less runs (R + RBI - HR) but your team might actually score more runs because the average IBB INCREASES (what?? I thought my unprotected batter will produce LESS runs?) expected runs scored" Is the "unprotected" batter an "average" batter or not? Since baseball is (or should be) about building up to score run(s), it is a good idea to have good hitters hit back-to-back-to-back.
  4. Paging rluzinski... My favorite Brewerfan poster of alltime... Hold on to your stats this year, it might be a wild finish...
  5. Perhaps his health is bothering him, but looking at the history of Brewers closers, it might just be a baseball thing.
  6. Truth be told, I grew up as a kid on the West side of Chicago. I think he was being facetious about those values, but perhaps your upbringing beats that of East St. Louis?
  7. I keep telling this to my local loan officer at the community bank in the small town where I live, as well as my old college buddy who picks stocks for a big firm out East. They still like to keep score/tabs on what the other team is doing though. Oxy
  8. I'm curious if the Pads changed their shift for Shaw after his bunt single last time up.
  9. I'd probably put Shaw at 1st and Perez at 3rd, but it probably doesn't matter too much.
  10. Great defense today. Fun to watch solid fundamental baseball.
  11. 2 outs bases empty 3-2 count to a .230 hitter with 6 homers in a 3 run game. He grooved one and Galvis ran into it, but it's probably a better pitch than walking him.
  12. Nice games for Perez and Schoop today. Perez has all the tools except OBP, and is a heady player.
  13. That's great if it's April or if we are struggling to find serviceable arms, but we aren't. If he starts over one of the more regular guys who have more or less earned a spot in the rotation, I hope he is piggybacked with whoever he replaces and is put on an extremely short leash...i.e. if he gives up 2 ERs and has guys on base he gets pulled even if it's the 1st inning.
  14. I agree with everything you just said, but that is a lot of "ifs." *nervous laugh* I look at it this way. A lot of us have felt they did a lot with smoke and mirrors in the first half. But the wins have kept on coming, so at some point maybe we need to realize that it isn't smoke and mirrors, and we might actually have a legit contender on our hands. Of course, they team has created a false sense of security in me before, and crushed those hopes, so there's always going to be a sense of trepidation. But if you would have told me back in April that this team would be sitting at 15 above .500 and 1 game out of 1st on Aug. 3, I'm not sure I would have believed it. I thought they were a playoff contender, but I figured it would be to sneak into that 2nd wild card. This has been terrific. I totally agree, which is why I get a kick out of it whenever somebody complains when Counsel/Stearns do something unconventional. Perhaps they are just getting lucky...perhaps not.
  15. Who would catch the ball after the pitcher throws the ball? Also you would just be allowing the runner to steal home or any base for that matter if there is no one to catch the ball. If I recall, there is a rule against "making a mockery of the game." Not having a catcher when there are no baserunners and less than 2 strikes would probably fall under this category even if it would be a "good" strategy.
  16. Pure genius. The rules should obviously prevent this, but if they do not it is silly that teams have a catcher to begin the inning.
  17. The revelations of Chacin and Miley are making me know what it feels like to be a Cardinals fan. Stearns and Derek Johnson deserve big raises.
  18. This was truly a game for baseball fans. Especially the at-bat you highlighted. JJ giving MM 2 splitters, the second one ripped just foul for a near double.... Everyone expecting JJ to come back with the high heat-including Orel Hershiser (and probably MM)-- Instead he buries another splitter in the dirt and makes Machado look silly. Good stuff.
  19. Whatever imbalances the current 25 man roster has will be completely solved by the September call-ups.
  20. Apparently "Wade Miley" is the answer to who starts the Wild Card game. Great game tonight. Feels like a playoff game.
