  1. The problem is I am not sure I can get my hands on his printed copy beforehand. If you each have Stubhub accounts, I think he can directly "sell" you the barcode number and then you can print it off or display it on your phone, although I'm not sure what the minimum price for that would be...
  2. Sounds like it should have been another safety squeeze attempt by whoever the better bunter is.
  3. I'd focus on the # of pitches rather than on the number of outs when determining how much stress is placed on the arm in back to back days.
  4. This is slightly curious, in that in this 96 win pennant winning year Peralta had success in starting 14 times, while Woodruff started 4 times and Burnes 0 times, even though Peralta is the youngest of the 3. All 3 will be ready for the rotation next year, and it'd difficult for me to put any of them in the pen--unless a couple of them pair up on a piggy back type routine on 3 days rest. The pigpen rotation, if you will. Barring injury, Chacin is obviously a lock to begin the year in the rotation. For the first time in my Brewerfandom there is either going to be a trade or a lot of competition come next March/April due to too much starting pitching depth.
  5. Unless I've got Mariano Rivera and Trevor Hoffman on my roster, I'd try not to count on the same names being in my Super-pen from year to year. Having a super pen is obviously key, it's just tricky to write in who it might consist of. Even from April to June to August to October there can be many changes.
  6. Hopefully we are up by 3+ runs after Chacin gets through the order a couple times and Guerra and Gio/Miley can finish it out with perhaps a batter or two for one or two of the big 4 in high leverage spots. If we are losing, we'll probably stick with Guerra and one of the lefties all the way through. If it's tied or we are up by a couple, we might see everybody except for Peralta and one of the lefties.
  7. For guys like Knebel, Jeffress, and Soria I'm not sure what the difference is between "Limited to a few batters, at most" and "Available". They should each be able to go up to 20+ pitches or so today, which could mean anywhere from 2-5 batters...which is what they normally would pitch to when they are fresh and rested.
  8. I'm not concerned about the pressure, but I am concerned about the 94 MPH "heat." 5 MPH off of what he is capable of... Has he hit 99 this year? I thought he kind of sat comfortably at 96ish? Pretty sure he's touched 99, but he is never regularly below 97 is he? Fangraphs has him at sitting at 96. So my concern is hyperbole but not completely invalid.
  9. I'm not concerned about the pressure, but I am concerned about the 94 MPH "heat." 5 MPH off of what he is capable of...
  10. No Hader tomorrow either. He probably won't be needed with Miley and Gio available, but I'm sure he could pitch in the perfect situation for a batter or two.
  11. I would say 3+, not 4+. But your point still stands. I'm not sure Hader or Burnes go more than 3. Even Woodruff and Guerra going 4 or more would require them to be seriously locked in. I meant to write either "comfortably 3+" or "4+ if need be" and it ended up as a weird fusion of the two. It shouldn't be necessary anyway unless there are multiple extra inning games.
  12. If Woodruff was a lock to make the roster it makes the most sense to use him as an opener. If he struggles, don't hesitate to pull him for Guerra or Burnes...or Gio...or Miley... They may only have 11 pitchers, but 7 of them can comfortably go 4+ innings if need be and face both lefties and righties.
  13. Pretty sure everybody can go back-to-back days if they throw less than 30 pitches. Even Hader (although he might not be able to go back to back 30 pitch outings...he should be good for a key loogy situation though). This is the playoffs and they have a day off on Saturday. If the game is close, play to win the game.
  14. A lot of it is to take the pressure off the opening outgetter. He isn't supposed to be thinking about pitching 7 strong innings, he's supposed to be thinking how to pitch to the guy in the batter's box to get him out, or how to get through the inning he is in without giving up any runs, anyway.

  16. Something smells very schticky here.
  17. You need to relax guy. Does that comment add to the discussion in any way...........at all? I'm to the point of trusting the judgement of those who make those judgements. It has gotten us this far, so why not? Shut down the internet!
  18. If it wasn't for Arenado and Story destroying lefties, I don't think starting Cedeno would be that bad of an option. There is a lot of value added when a pitcher you normally count on for getting 1 or 2 outs can give you 4 or 5 outs instead--especially in a playoff series when roster transactions are so limited. In this case, Cedeno should likely be saved for his normal role as a situational lefty in the mid-late innings. Soria, on the other hand...
  19. It is always a cat-and-mouse game between hitting philosophies and pitching philosophies. Both of those things will be highly dependent upon game situation--score, inning, # of outs, baserunners, and who is on deck/in the hole. There is no overarching philosophy that works for all situations. Every player has certain strengths and weaknesses, and having a bench full of differently skilled players allows for a manager to effectively play to the situation and score runs--or perhaps score A run, if 1 run is all you need.
  20. This is probably the winner.
  21. McCalvy says its a bullpen game for Game 1. Hoping that means Soria to start, then bring on Miley after Soria gets through Arenado and Story. Or perhaps just go with Burnes or Woodruff... Chacin is starting game 2 on short rest.
  22. Agreed. I think I'd roll with any of our other guys and stick Miley and/or Gio in the pen. Or start Soria and pitch him till he either gets hit or has to bat and then bring in Miley or Gio so they'd only have to face Arenado/Story at most twice and probably only once.
