  1. Soler was projected between 2/18 (FanGraphs) and 3/36 (MLBTR), though most of the contracts signed before the lockout were coming in above the projections so I'd imagine he ends up closer to the MLBTR deal. Not sure if 3/36 counts as buying low (it would tie Aramis for the 4th largest free agent deal in franchise history), but if Stearns & company think that Soler is the best bat they can afford with whatever budget room Mark A gives them, I'll trust their judgement. I dropped him from my dynasty league last July after he had a Travis Shaw type of first half. Figured he would/should be cheap-ish. Although I do vaguely remember him turning it around somewhat for the Braves, but not enough to warrant even a multi-year deal. 2/18 would be on the top end of do-able.
  2. Can somebody please rebut the "double hook" rule for the DH? In that the DH is only for the starting pitcher, and once the starting pitcher gets pulled the DH either has to enter the game to play defense or sit on the bench. This seemed like the ultimate "best of both worlds" solution, yet I've never heard a pro-DH person point out why it isn't as good as the permanent DH. Instead, it's just like there is this foregone conclusion/momentum/whining about "nobody wants to watch pitchers hit." Well, the double hook rule would basically eliminate pitchers from hitting yet still keep the charm of the NL strategy and make a strong, versatile bench that can play defense VERY valuable rather than just have some ultra-specialists on the bench.
  3. Glad to have normal extra innings game rules....As tough as it might be on the players, the ghost runner was just too gimmicky--and I find the possibility of a 20 inning game romantic/epic/legendary... That said, I could see how perhaps teams could be granted additional roster spots for pitchers in the days following extra innings games.
  4. Very nice! I was skeptical at first, but I am coming around.
  5. It's gonna really suck when Rodgers retires on Labor day, 2022...just because...
  6. Gutekunst/Packers have almost always "reached" for guys...and then been proven to be pretty dang good drafters (other than the BIG ONE-Love). Good luck to all you prognosticators. I'll just watch the games
  7. There is no possible way that each side agreeing to hire an arbitration panel to settle the dispute would be more expensive than cancelling a WEEKS worth of MLB games.
  8. Bingo. That's 5 MORE points than a "relevant" margin according to NET...in a low scoring game.... This is one of my favorite Badger teams of all-time. No team will top the '03 team, but that's for personal reasons (I got my hand in Sports Illustrated after storming the court after beating Illinois for the conference championship...remember when magazines were a thing?). The '13 team is also a favorite, although that's because every other Wisconsin "fan" hates that team and they went 4-0 against the National runner-up Michigan and Offensive Efficiency #1 Indiana that year. The 3 Final 4 teams are pretty high on my list too. Also: Big Kudos to Rashard Griffith, Michael Finley and Howard Moore...3 college graduates who Scott Van Pelt recognized tonight for getting their degree. So, Gard's job was in jeopardy at some point?!?!?! Seriously?!?!?
  9. I agree. Keep as is. Except bring back the Power 50. "like" (/puke)
  10. Uhm. Core content creators? This is a fan message board. If the hosting site provides content then please keep the ads on those pages, and make it easy to go right into a forum like this to read what other fans think and avoid ads and links to those content creators. Either that, or start distributing revenue to posters who get a lot of likes (that's a joke. Please don't do that....). Perhaps if somebody makes themselves known as a good poster then I might read something off-forum that they created.
  11. This team is special...and different. I've gotten used to Badger teams that play un-emotional quality basketball on every single monotonous possession, both offensively and defensively. And I've liked it over the years, with many conference championships, sweet 16s and even Final Fours on their resume. But this team plays emotionally to the level of their competition, for both good and bad, and I can't quite get a handle on them. You ARE what your record says you are. I hope.
  12. Purdue also plays @MSU on Saturday, which is far from a gimme. UCLA lost to Oregon tonight as well, which could help UW from a seed perspective. Fun time of year for a college bball fan!
  13. If they win out (including the B1G tournament), they are probably a 1 seed. Lose once and they are a 2 seed, lose twice they are a 3 seed, lose three times and they are a 4 or 5 seed. Lose 4 and they are a 6 seed or worse.
  14. These Badgers are pretty good when healthy and defending. Very tough even if they don't wow you, but they beat you just the same. Typical Wisconsin is what I'm saying. The toughness, defense and rebounding is typical WI, but offensively this team (and by "team" I MAINLY mean Johnny Davis) takes (and makes!) more bad shots shots than any UW team in the past 25 years.
  15. Road wins are always nice! Solid game considering that Johnny was pretty bad in the first half. Carlson seems to have overtaken Gilmore, which is good to see since his ceiling is miles higher. He looked comfortable out there and made some plays too. Hopefully another comfortable win against Minnesota at the Kohl center this weekend to finish the first half of the B1G season at a cool 8-2.
  16. So, Milwaukee is the "host" school at Marquette's home court? Host school's can't compete at their home court in the tourney...not sure if you can get around that by having a different school host in your home arena...
  17. If this was more of a typical walk-it-up halfcourt UW offense then the "rest" aspect of depth wouldn't be important. Typically UW guys would just space the floor, move the ball and get it in the post for an easy look or a kick out for an open 3. That has been UW's offense for 15 years. This team is different though, as it is really dependent upon penetration by the 3 guards to make something happen...that is A LOT more physically taxing than just spacing out and working it inside. With the way UW wants to play defense it is hard to play that hard on both ends for more than 30-32 minutes per player.
  18. Good time for a loss, I guess... Wahl is sorely missed. Hopefully at the end of the year all of UWs losses can be explained by injury/illness... Prolly similar to a number of other clubs, but hopefully UW will be at full strength in March.
  19. Heck, a 1-seed might be the equivalent of a 4-seed. There is just a big jumble of teams in the top 20 or so that are all fairly equal resume-wise. Moreso than any other year that I can remember. Auburn and Arizona are going to be the next teams to try and take the mantle of #1 and separate themselves from the pack but I'd bet on both losing a couple of games in the next couple of weeks.
  20. The starting 5+Vogt is very solid when they want to be...but they have been playing so many minutes that it is impossible to stay as intense on D the whole game and remain as aggressive on offense as they should be. I think Gard should be able to cycle in Neath and hopefully Jordan Davis enough to spell the 3 starting perimeter defenders-I'm not sure there is a lot of hope for Bowman this year to become a good enough defender to stay in the rotation against teams with good perimeter players. He might get time in the right matchup or blow-outs though. There is still hope that Carlson can get healthy and get up to speed enough to spell Wahl rather than having Gilmore play that role--who has been fine, but is rather limited.
  21. Agree with those who called that a weird game. Super physical and 2 poor shooting teams should equate to one of those classic B1G grinders...instead both teams shot the lights out with each team making their fair share of shots they had no business making. Bad day all around for the refs, which sucks for everybody. Again, this team just keeps winning. The last couple games have been very encouraging on the offensive front...as UW has actually been able to run some offense and get some open layups/good looks that weren't fading 15 footers by Davis(on). Defensively things have been sporadic. Bowman is downright terrible on D, which is too bad as he is an intriguing player on the other end. The starting 5 have really stepped up to become a good unit on both ends of the floor. Unfortunately the bench has yet to contribute to the point of "comfortableness" when any of them are in the game (outside of Vogt, who is more of a 6th starter). They have each shown enough flashes where there is hope of some consistency down the road, though. This has been a really fun year.
  22. Great win when JD didnt have it. I hope he thanks his teammates and the bigs in the post game presser for picking him up after he called those guys out (rightfully so) after the game @OSU. If Wahl makes his 3s, he turns from a solid defensive glue guy who can score a little in the post to an ALL-B1G type player. He obviously showed that potential tonight. Bad Brad with a quintessential Bad Brad night as well. Drawing that 5th foul against EJ was masterful....and left me shaking my head. As the cliche goes, glad he's on our team.
  23. It’s the 85 scholarships. That’s a lot. Even FCS schools can offer 65 scholarships. If parity were their objective (it’s not), drop the scholarship limit to 50 and teams like Alabama and Ohio State couldn’t stash 4 and 5-star recruits on the bottom of their rosters. Ahhh, wasn't it up until 40 years ago it was 99 scholarships? The reason Michigan and Ohio State dominated the 70's. Lower the limit and Wisconsin, Iowa so on come into play. Instead, NIL went in the opposite direction. Scholarships are superfluous. The transfer rules will recycle A LOT of talent toward "lesser" schools but...well...we'll see what happens. ALSO, if there are more and more underclassmen who are ready for the professional realms, then there will be pressure to let them go before their "3rd year out of high school." At that point, parity will reign supreme a la college basketball.
  24. A literal zero percent chance. Infrastructure that MLB controls makes it impossible, especially if they can hold MiLB stadiums hostage on top of it. A zero percent chance seems low. I guess I'm not sure if they can hold MLB stadiums hostage....plus a new league could maximize star power and partially eliminate poor franchises (unfortunately...that means MKE loses at least half a franchise). So you cut it back to an action packed, star packed 20 team league...2 franchises each in NY, CHI, LA, and the BAY area, then BOS, PHI, DAL, HOU, ATL get a team and then 7 franchises rotate between the rest of the neglected small markets (so, MIL/MIN share a team, STL/KC share a team, SEA/SD share a team, DEN/PHO share a team, CIN/DET share a team, CLE/PIT share a team, BAL/WAS share a team.....screw FLA. They can have Spring training). And by "share a team" I mean they play half their home series in each city. This would equal out the TV and gate revenues for each team/market. Seems like a winner to me.
