  1. Maybe those stats knew a little more than it seemed? It's amazing how a few absolutely terrible plays in the 3 losses sabotaged the overall perception of the quality of the team as a whole. Turnovers are an incredibly erratic stat.
  2. Granato is a better recruiter than Eaves but Eaves was probably the better coach. It sounds like the basketball team and the hockey team need to adopt the strength of each other....
  3. The Knicks and the Bulls are both very interesting squads as well. Ultimately, neither have what it takes to upend the Bucks though.
  4. Too bad Hepburn and Bowman missed the Red-White game. Those were the 2 most exciting new guys to hear reports about (from practice reports it sounds like Hepburn is a lock to start and hit the ground running at the PG spot while Bowman might still be adjusting to college life and college game speed).
  5. Devin Chandler has entered the transfer portal. Annoying, I guess, but better get used to this sort of thing as it is probably the new norm. I get it that the guy is frustrated that he can't get time over Jack Dunn. If you aren't a good, willing, blocker though you aren't going to be a fit for UW (or the NFL unless you have Moss-like talent). In other news, ESPNs SP+ college football efficiency rankings still has the 3-3 Badgers at #7 in the country. Our YPP differential combined with our quality of opponents means they think we've been unlucky. Or else maybe Graham Mertz actually IS turnover prone. Hard to know.
  6. I tend to enjoy seasons with new faces and no expectations. At the very least there is little chance of being frustrated and/or disappointed as a fan; and who knows, they might be pretty good. I think they'll hold their own on the perimeter, but I'm afraid they might really get beat up inside on the boards and w/o any experienced defenders. If Wahl is stronger this year or if that big Vogt guy from Cincinnati is any good that would help immensely.
  7. I think a lot of this is TBD until the collective bargaining is extended or renegotiated or whatever. If somebody wants to help out on the dates and deadlines of how all that will work that would be great, although perhaps that's worth a new thread.
  8. Offense is over-rated
  9. This is kinda funny, as I can foresee us winning 11 games this postseason, and after every victory the offense will NEED to get going...
  10. One can research the data all they want, but you'll never convince me that momentum, or lack thereof, doesn't make a difference in October. Still thinking the same thing?
  11. Was this recent? Or just something he said early in the season? Multi-inning outings are almost always a thing in the playoffs in cases with elite relievers. I can understand his commentary in the regular season but playoffs are and should be different. I can't really foresee a scenario where I'd WANT to bring him in. Maybe if Freeman is coming up in the 8th with guys on base and we are up by a run. That's only if Ashby has already been used though. I think he'll be our left-handed fireman rather than using Hader early. If a guy has stated he doesn't want to do it and hasn't done it all year AND we have pretty good options instead then it just isn't going to happen. Our non-Gustave bullpen is pretty good, no reason to make Hader uncomfortable. Later in the series they may have Burnes, Woody or Peralta available in the pen as well to get an out or three.
  12. Yep. He might even be back for the NLCS, where he is far more likely to pitch since they play 3 straight days. It SHOULD be tough to get our 10th and 11th pitchers any work in this series unless there is a marathon extra inning game. Even then, I'd rather see Houser and Ashby go 3+ innings then use Gustave.
  13. The best part? We get them all back next year!
  14. The only problem is that national TV executives are grumpy that the playoffs and WS and Sunday Night Baseball don't get great NATIONAL ratings. Big whoopdy-d00. Baseball is a regional sport...It's probably my favorite sport, but I almost never watch some random national game that doesn't involve the Brewers. Local TV ratings and contracts have never been higher. Attendance may go through some peaks and valleys, but by and large more people are attending games now than ever before.
  15. Actually, one needs to know the exact pre-flip probability before saying that the odds are 50/50. In real life, knowing the exact pre-flip probability is much harder than it sounds in theoretical math land. In theoretical math land, one just says "assume that this coin is fair and has a 50% of landing on a heads or a tail on any individual flip." In that land if I flip a coin and it turns up heads 23 straight times, I throw my hands up and go "WOW, what are the odds of that happening..well the odds are 1 in 2 to the 23rd power!!! That's an amazing statistical anomaly!!" In real life land, by somewhere between the 6th and the 8th straight "heads" outcome, an observer starts to think that the original assumption of a "fair, 50-50 coin" might not actually be true...by the 15th straight heads call they are REALLY sure the original assumption was false. So, the more you toss a coin that doesn't show a 50/50 outcome, the less likely it is that the coin is a fair 50/50 coin. That's hard to think about though...
  16. The Brewers are 99.9% locked in to their playoff position. The Cardinals are not. Not that these games shouldn't mean a lot to the Brewers, but they mean infinitely more to the Cardinals. Well, I am quite certain that the results of the games in the last week or so are among the least important results for a mid-September game since 2004 or so.
  17. I'm not sure anybody understands "the COVID list stuff." I thought that say a player received the vaccine and was feeling ill effects from that vaccine they could be placed on a "COVID list" for as little or as much time as necessary--like even a day or two. It kind of sounds like that might be Cueto's deal.
  18. djoctogone remains a top 10...perhaps a top 5 Brewerfan.net poster.
  19. This is crazy. Let the social media let all the voters know...
  20. Yeah, I think it's a 3 horse race between Buehler, Burnes and Woody.
  21. Hopefully Woody, Suter, Cousins and Strick can win an easy one tomorrow if the offense shows up. I'm thinking 6-1.
  22. I thought Stearns way overpaid JBJ right off the bat. He is guaranteed WAY too much money, and the contract almost entraps the Brewers year-by-year to keep him another year or else pay a WAY too expensive buyout.
  23. Or at least now or the 8th inning. or 9th inning. Fail that, tomorrow or the next day. Anytime, really, now included.
  24. Votto is a shoe-in. When it comes to weighting the importance of OBP vs. SLG, OBP is actually UNDER-rated rather than overrated in importance. PLUS, Votto was/is still hitting .300 with all those walks as opposed to those 3TO sluggers like Adam Dunn and Joey Gallo who can't hit for avg.
