I agree, I am excited about what fully formed Ashby is going to look like in a few years. How is this kid not a top 100 prospect? What profile do you need if not what he brings to the table? [sarcasm]The Brewers are hoping to use the Dodgers strategy of hyping to prospect-nik media types their modiocre-ish top pick prospects like Turang and Small to trade away while never mentioning guys like Ashby who they plan to keep[/sarcasm] -
I'm confused by this. You don't choose the 4 teams that make the playoffs until after the bowl games. Obviously that makes them super meaningful, and you end up playing fewer games than a 12 team playoff system. Same number of games as in 8 team playoff, except that it throws a bone to the Rose Bowl and Orange bowl etc. because those are awesome games that have obvious playoff implications.

I think they should go back to the old bowl system with traditional matchups. AND THEN PLAY A PLAYOFF!! 4 top teams make the semifinals like they do now. You have to win your bowl game to make the playoffs.

Agree. There are always going to be mistakes, but Stearns has made far more good moves than bad ones, which is why we the Brewers are something like 97% favorites to win their division on their way to their fourth straight playoff appearance. As to Bickford, I've always cheered for him, mostly because he was the "prize" we got in exchange for Will Smith. I'm glad he's found success, and wish that success could be for the Brewers. But as long as Stearns continues to field playoff-caliber teams year-in and year-out, I won't be too concerned that he lets some guys get away. The problem is that Bickford is young, cheap, and has options. Cycling through older journeymen type relievers is fine and can work when you have good scouts and coaches, but it's way easier to just hold on to young cheap talented players. Obviously, Bickford is a young, cheap talented player. My guess is that his history of non-compliance with certain rules about substances somehow got in the way...or some other off the field issue that the Brewers weren't cool with. Even with that, it's a shame we got NOTHING for him. Save for our starters, Hader and Williams there isn't a pitcher on our 40 man who the Dodgers would even THINK about trading Bickford for right now. That's too bad. EDIT: Considering the cost of Hader, I'm not sure the Dodgers would even trade Bickford for him. They probably would, since they ARE the Dodgers, but a normal team with a normal budget would definitely have to think about it.

They're bringing up milner because the bullpen pitched 8 innings yesterday I'd just pitch Ashby out of the pen today and hope he can finish the game after Woodruff. Use Box if necessary.

Did Ashby pitch yesterday or Tues? He seems like a better option than Milner. EDIT: Maybe he has to stay down 10 days? Even if he's on the taxi squad?

Are these the 3 best years any Brewer starter has ever had? All in the same year? Sheets '04, Caldwell '78, Higuera '86, and I guess Vuke '82 just cuz he won the Cy Young, but I think that's actually #7 (at best) right now...

Up until 3 months ago, this trade had a very clear loser. But Lauer's last couple months give me a fair amount of hope that this might work out. So, it's been 2 months of bad (which happened to be all of 2020 which skews perception quite a bit), and 3 months of good-- but since the 2 months happened first and lasted an "entire" season it is phrased as "Up until 3 months ago, this trade had a very clear loser..." I'm VERY glad thing are looking good RIGHT NOW (and the past 3 months) as opposed to looking good for us for 2 months of 2020 but trending poorly the last 3 months the way it is for the Padres. -
I don't know the exact numbers but it's extended close contact like within 8 ft of each other for half an hour (eating together). I don't think sharing a clubhouse counts or 2 minute hi how are ya conversations.

While Woodruff is a nice hitter for a P, he is still pretty bad, and there already are 2 outs. That is the exact time an 8 hitter needs to hack on 3-0. Especially since Pina has been seeing it well lately. EDIT: If a PH is a foregone conclusion, then, sure, take on 3-0. It wasn't though.

Do you know what they are in Atlanta? My perception/ recollection is that the Brewers have lost a lot more series than they have won there over the last 10 years or so. [sarcasm]It doesn't matter what the numbers say, I'm sure that your perception in correct[/sarcasm]

They'd have to release him. Assuming that they are going to buyout his contract at the end of the year, this is an interesting thought, though. It would depend on how they feel about Escobar and/or Jace Peterson and/or Corey Ray playing OF. Personally, with the fragility of Cain and Yelich I think it's important to hold on to JBJ til the end of the year.

"Friendship" isn't the reason, but no doubt he's forced throws to Adams and Nelson over the years. It worked more often than not though.
