  1. I'm still hoping the Twins get Darvish and the Cubs pay big money for Arrieta. I think that will end up being a bad contract after year 2.
  2. This is a tricky offseason for DS and it will be interesting to see what he does. I think we can definitely contend, but I also think this team is in for a bit of a regression on top of Nelson being out for awhile. I believe the answer to the question whether we bring in more MLB or prospects will depend on what kind of prospects DS can get. We are getting to the point where the 40 man will be getting tight in the next year or two, so I think if we get solid Top 100 type prospects or lottery tickets types, deals will be made. I just don't see much value in getting a prospect that will have to be added to our 40 man next off season that is going to fall into our #20 prospect range. I think we should use some of those prospects that are in the 10-20 range and are on the 40 man or will be next year to get some talented young major leaguers like Yelich, Salazar, Archers of the world. If we can turn the Santana's, Broxton's, Gatewood's, Ray's and Ponce's of the world to get top talent we can afford to do so if they are controllable. Otherwise sell off depth for higher talent as we get closer to contending. FYI, I'm not saying that we can get top flight talent with only those types of players, but the more of them we throw into the deal, the less "high end talent" we would have to give up.
  3. *cough*cough*speak for yourself*cough*cough Perhaps I spoke in prematurely....
  4. Obviously, depending on the price, I like this idea. A little insurance in case Nelson takes longer than expected and allows the young arms one more year to work on things. I think we would all love to have Archer instead, but if Corbin doesn't cost much, this is a nice bridge. Might even be able to flip him if we take a step back or some of the young guys step up. Anderson Davies Corbin Chacin Woodruff/Guerra ...with Suter, Gallardo, Barnes, Lopez waiting for a call.
  5. I'm hoping he is so smart that he just driving up the price for the Cubs and Cardinals.
  6. I just feel like it might be a year early to dip our toes in FA waters. I would much rather see what we have in the minors and give them another year to develop. If we are still in the midst of a playoff race in July, then I would have no problem selling off pieces to make a run, and at that point we would have a better idea who might/might not be future pieces and (hopefully) the pieces would increase their value during the year.
  7. Having the 2016 version of Junior would be nice for the rotation in 2018.
  8. I agree, that would make this almost an "all in" year for them. They can always resign Machado I guess, but I'm thinking the Brewers take a small step back this year so if the Cubs want to sell off their future for this year, I'm all for it.
  9. I like what DS is doing. Buying up some decent deals in FA to round out the roster and see how the season goes. I think if we have a decent year, he will trade some of that depth for controllable players. Hopefully we don't have to give away as many Top 10 pieces if our system is this deep. A lot of competition in the minors this year. It will be interesting to see what the Rays, Nottinghams, and Gatewoods do.
  10. I would do that deal in a second. I think DS would get hung up on though. Maybe add Chen to our side and Gatewood to theirs?
  11. I like that idea as well, but then we would need to deal a couple catchers to someone and I'm not sure how much we can get back if everyone knows we have to trade them or keep 5 or 6 catchers on the 40 man. I think either Bandy or Susac are out of options, so I wouldn't mind trading that one and the Ray's, Gatewoods, Ponces or Stokes of the system for him. Like you said though, I would not want to give up any future pieces, but quantity over quality for a nice upgrade up the middle would be great. Something like Ray, Susac/Bandy, Ponce, Wren. (I was going to look up the list of players coming up for 40 man protection next year, but can't find it.)
  12. Is there anyway we could include Braun and $$$ to get more prospects? This might be the last chance Stearns has if he wants to get Braun out. Obviously it would depend on prospects and money involved. If we could get Buehler and some lower minor/high upside guys that won't be on the 40 man for a few years that would be amazing. Pay all of Kemp's salary and Braun's this year. Next year Kemp would be on the books, but not Braun and the year after that DS would have money to burn for extensions or FA signings for a run at the WS.
  13. On the plus side YOGA does provide starting or relief flexibilty and allows DS to find a good deal on one side or the other. I hate the term "outside the box", but what about Hader in a starting roll with Yovanni or Suter coming in a piggyback type situation. That way Hader gets some starting experience, but we can still keep his innings down. The downside would be watching his lead get blown every game.
  14. I agree, this is pretty confusing. On the outside, while not quite waiving the white flag, it doesn't show a ton of confidence in this team this year. Maybe he will sign a couple old, crappy relievers as well just to keep prospects in the minors one year longer. For a small market team that isn't a horrible idea, but it certainly doesn't make much sense looking at how well the team played last year. YOGA=head scratcher
  15. That's still too much. I'm thinking closer to Santana, Peralta, 1 or 2 lower end guys. Think Supak/Ponce and Peyton Henry. Even better! Get it done DS!
  16. I don't think the Rays would go for it, but it would be nice to include Santana in the deal to ease the prospect load. Something like Santana, Ortiz, Harrison, Gatewood. That is a big haul for one player, but if we didn't have to give up Brinson, Hader, Burnes I would be tempted. That would be a nice rotation when Nelson comes back, although our offense would take a big hit with Santana gone.
  17. Harrison/Ecreg/Diplan/Supak for Duffy/Merrifield? That would be great, but could we take Ercreg out and throw Villar and Jungman in?
  18. I really wish this was a move the Brewers made instead of the Pirates.... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/12/pirates-acquire-rule-5-pick-nick-burdi-from-phillies-for-international-pool-space.html
  19. I think he is/was with the Halos now though isn't he?
  20. I would love to see Hader start a piggyback with T. Williams after. I can't imagine being an opposing hitter and seeing the filth coming from both sides during the game. Throw K. Medeirois in for the save to really confuse everyone.
  21. Apparently all midwest towns look the same to them. Check out the link...unless I missed something and we are moving to KC. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/21740665/kansas-city-brewers-manager-reiterates-jimmy-nelson-throw-spring-training
  22. Miami is apparently desparate to get rid of Stanton's contract but he holds all the cards. If he doesn't get traded, could we trade for Chen and Prado (about 78 million in contracts) and steal some pitching prospects? Similar, but on a bigger scale to the Segura-Diaz trade.
  23. Rosenthal just tweeted that Brewers are getting hits on all their outfielders, especially Santana. Braun is least likely to b traded, but the Giants were specifically mentioned. I'm not sure what they could offer for Santana, but I don't think I'd be interested in anything unless it is one of their major league arms. Sorry, no idea how to put a link to a tweet in here.
  24. This arms race for international signing bonus money is hilarious. Quick! Call the Dodgers and see if they want Braun and all our international money for Buehler and Alvarez.
  25. Personally I don't, it just seems like Burnes might be more sought after right now and I would not want to lose both arms in one deal. I guess I didn't state that very well.
